Prince Hotel, Hong Kong
The Harbour City hotel that prints the 3% accommodation tax on its own page, about 0.3 road miles from Ocean Terminal and 5.2 from Kai Tak.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Hong Kong
Twenty hotels for the night before a Hong Kong cruise, scored on how you reach the ship, not on reviews. The big ships sail from Kai Tak. It’s far from every hotel area, and no hotel publishes a ride to either terminal — so the points go to what is documented: a walk to Ocean Terminal, an MTR link, breakfast and the evening.
Three taps and we’ll show your three picks.
Change an answer and the picks reshuffle.
They come from the same published facts as the ranking below, and no hotel pays for a place — Booking.com links earn us a commission, but they don’t move a hotel up or down.
The matcher weighs your answers against what each hotel publishes: the ride to the terminal, breakfast, pool, kitchen and pets. It assumes you’re flying in.
Give it a sail date, who’s coming and how many nights, and the planner lays out the whole trip.
You get the hotel, the ride from the airport, the ride to the ship, when to leave and how you get home — add your flight home if you have one.
Every figure is one the hotel, the port or a company publishes. Where nobody does, you’ll see a gap, not a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (transfers, luggage storage) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
The three below sit on one scale, but the two terminals pull in opposite directions — read them with yours in mind.
Sailing from Kai Tak, where most big ships start? Holiday Inn Express CBD2 is the one: 2.3 road miles, with breakfast in the rate.
Every other hotel is 4.3 road miles or more away — most guests take a taxi.
Sailing from Ocean Terminal? Marco Polo Hongkong and Prince Hotel sit inside Harbour City, 0.04 and 0.3 road miles from it.
Prince is first overall on 55 — a lead that rests on Ocean Terminal, not Kai Tak.
Filter by what your night needs, then tick up to three hotels to compare. We set the order, not the shortlist; that part is yours.
We checked 26 hotels and scored the 24 that are open and publish enough to score. Twenty made the list.
We stopped there because the next four score 16 or less — airport hotels, 22 road miles or more from Kai Tak, and a longer list would only add near-identical Lantau rooms.
Two of the twenty sit close to Ocean Terminal and one is the nearest we measured to Kai Tak — and no hotel runs a shuttle to either.
The four below the line, and the others we left out, are listed with the reasons.
Add your sail date and the links open on the night before.

An indoor pool and five restaurants 1.4 km from the airport, a night for an evening landing, about 22.3 road miles from Kai Tak.
No hotel on the list has all of those. Try dropping one filter.

Choose the airport tab or the rail-and-bus tab.
The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up to match, and the companies underneath run airport to port.
Three of the twenty run a free airport shuttle — and none of them goes to a ship.
Hong Kong Airport · about 23.0 road miles (37.0 km) to Kai Tak, our routing; taxi about HK$310 (about US$40), per the terminal
The terminal’s own page prints about HK$310 between Kai Tak and the airport, plus baggage fees. Holland America prints about HK$350, 22 miles and about 45 minutes.
Our meter arithmetic on the Transport Department’s tariff comes to about HK$299 (about US$40) for our routed 37.0 km, before tolls and bags, so the printed figures look right. Taxis wait at the Taxi Station near the left-hand ramp outside the Arrivals Hall.
No page we read prints a fare to Ocean Terminal.
Our routing makes it 32.1 km and 31 minutes with no traffic, about HK$264 (about US$35) on the meter before tolls and bags. A secondary guide says around HK$270 (about US$35).
The tariff, effective July 14, 2024, is HK$29 (about US$4) for the first 2 km, HK$2.10 (about US$0.27) per 200 m until HK$102.50 (about US$13), then HK$1.40 (about US$0.18), with HK$6 a bag.
The MTR’s fare table lists HK$105 with Octopus or contactless to Kowloon Station, HK$115 (about US$15) for a Smart Ticket and HK$195 (about US$25) round trip. The airport’s own page shows a slightly different figure, so we print the MTR’s.
Trains run about every 15 minutes, 05:54 to 00:48. From Kowloon Station, Ocean Terminal is about 1.5 road miles on our routing and Kai Tak about 5.5.
The Langham’s page prices Citybus A21 at HK$35 and A25 at HK$41 (about US$5), and the Marco Polo hotels’ FAQs name both routes, stopping at Silvercord on Canton Road.
We couldn’t read the airport’s or Citybus’s own fare table, so confirm the fare, route and times.
Viator’s Hong Kong Port Transfers category lists a private transfer from Kai Tak to the airport from US$44 a person, about 45 minutes, with free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead. Kai Tak to hotels starts at US$61, and a minibus at US$53.
These are US-dollar starting prices on a reseller. Confirm with the operator it books.
Royal Caribbean says transfers are offered at all its ports for an extra fee, and prints no Hong Kong price on the page we read.
Holland America prints a taxi estimate instead. We found no Hong Kong transfer price for Celebrity, Norwegian, Princess or Oceania.
By rail and bus? The column to watch is “MTR and bus”. Kai Tak has no station of its own, so the way in is a bus or minibus from an MTR stop; the ride section below sets out Kai Tak’s own list. Driving after all? See Hong Kong cruise parking.

No hotel sells a ride to a cruise terminal — you put one together from four pieces: the taxi meter, Kai Tak’s bus list, the lockers and the car park.
By taxi. The Transport Department’s urban tariff, effective 14 July 2024, is HK$29 for the first 2 km, HK$2.10 per 200 m until the fare reaches HK$102.50, then HK$1.40, plus HK$6 a bag.
Applied to our routed distances, a taxi to Kai Tak runs about HK$50 from Kwun Tong, HK$80 to HK$100 (about US$10–13) from the Kowloon peninsula, HK$110 to HK$115 (about US$14–15) from Hong Kong Island and Tseung Kwan O, and about HK$290 (about US$35) from the airport hotels.
That’s our arithmetic, not a quote, and it’s before tolls, bags, the booking fee and the cross-harbour toll on Island trips. Each hotel’s page shows the figure for both terminals.
By bus. Kai Tak has no MTR station. Its own page lists KMB bus 5R, minibus 86 and buses 22S, 22, 20X and 20A, with fares from HK$6.4 to HK$10.30 (about US$0.82–US$1) — bus 20X comes from Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui, and bus 20A goes to West Kowloon at HK$7.5 (about US$0.96).
It also lists a free shuttle for debarking passengers to nearby MTR stations and malls on call days, and a paid one on turn calls. We found nothing for boarding passengers.
Bags. Kai Tak lists lockers at HK$12 to HK$24 (about US$2–3) for four hours and an SF Express luggage counter during selected debarkations.
Holland America says the terminal has no luggage storage — we couldn’t reconcile the two, so ask your line. Harbour City lists lockers at Ocean Terminal from HK$20 (about US$3) for two hours.
The car. No hotel sells cruise parking. Kai Tak’s 112 hourly spaces cost HK$20 an hour on weekdays and HK$24 at weekends from 15 August 2026, and the terminal calls them limited.
Hong Kong cruise parking, compared has the rest.
These twenty are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room. If you’d rather have the room, the grand hotels are on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, at West Kowloon and on the Island, a taxi from either terminal. The Ritz-Carlton prints a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star line and two MICHELIN stars for one restaurant; the Rosewood prints two one-star restaurants. We repeat only what each hotel prints.
Every distance on this page ends at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, 33 Shing Fung Road, at Esri’s point for that address. Ocean Terminal is the second figure on each hotel’s page.
The routing service we used has no walking profile for Hong Kong, so every hotel is measured by road, not on foot, with no traffic — a hotel’s own page can say otherwise.
Kai Tak is far from all twenty. The nearest is about 2.3 road miles away, and most are 4 to 7.
One hotel is in Kwun Tong, the district nearest the terminal. Twelve are on the Kowloon peninsula, in Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsim Sha Tsui East and Mong Kok.
Five are on Hong Kong Island or in Tseung Kwan O, and two are by the airport.
Sailing from Ocean Terminal instead? The order flips: the Harbour City hotels are under a mile away, and the Kwun Tong hotel is about 5.4 road miles.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things make a night before easy or hard in Hong Kong. The ride to the ship is the weak one here, because no hotel publishes it, so the score pays for what a hotel documents, not for what it might offer.
Every point comes from the hotel’s own site or its brand’s — nowhere else.
Silence scores zero, not a guess. Booking sites don’t count either.
A distance to the China Ferry Terminal or an MTR stop isn’t a distance to a cruise terminal — and Kai Tak, the one we rank against, is far from every hotel area.
Points go by band, measured from Kai Tak: Kwun Tong 30; Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsim Sha Tsui East and Mong Kok 25; Hong Kong Island and Tseung Kwan O 20; the airport and Tung Chung 10. Nothing lands in the 15-point band.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, earns 25. A ride only inside a package earns 20, and the hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk earns 15 too: the hotel’s page says it’s a walk to the cruise terminal, or the terminal is half a mile or less away by our road routing. A named partner earns 10.
Only Marco Polo Hongkong and Prince score here, on the walk to Ocean Terminal. Gateway looks close on the map, but it’s 0.8 road miles by the driving route.
Hong Kong is a fly-in port, so this slot stands in for the parking score we use where people drive. A transfer or luggage hand-off to a terminal that the hotel runs or arranges scores 20. A documented MTR station within about 0.4 mile, on the hotel’s page or its complex’s, in a district Kai Tak’s own getting-here page serves with a bus or minibus line, scores 12. Nothing documented scores 0, shown as “unknown”.
Marco Polo Hongkong’s own page gives Tsim Sha Tsui MTR as a 10-minute walk, past that line, so it scores 0 here. Prince’s page gives 5 minutes.
No hotel documents a transfer to a terminal, so five score 12 and the rest 0. Airport shuttles go to the airport, not the ship, so they score 0 too.
A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10, and only the two Holiday Inn Express hotels say so. Hilton Garden Inn Mongkok says “included” without saying for which rates, so it scores 0.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3. No hotel on the list has a kitchen in the room, so none scores above 6. The five parts add to 94, which is why scores run out of 94. Guest parking is listed on each page but isn’t scored.
Ties break in this order: any stated way to the ship, the ride score, free breakfast, a hotel that sits on site, the shorter road distance to Kai Tak by our routing, the lower guest-parking price, then the alphabet.
Marco Polo Hongkong, Hyatt Regency and Holiday Inn Golden Mile tie on 43. Marco Polo goes first on its walk to Ocean Terminal, and Hyatt Regency goes ahead of Golden Mile by hundredths of a mile of road to Kai Tak.
Four tie on 31: the InterContinental Grand Stanford, Hilton Garden Inn Mongkok, Kimpton and Sheraton, in that order by road distance to Kai Tak. Regal Kowloon goes ahead of Mondrian on 28.
Five tie on 26, from Royal Garden Kowloon East (6.1 miles) to Hyatt Centric (6.7). Sheraton Tung Chung is ahead of SkyCity on 16.
Rates and review scores are left out on purpose — a July rate tells you nothing in May. Most hotels print no official star rating, so we show none.
We checked 26 hotels. Twenty-four were open and published enough to score, and four of those scored below the twenty.
The grander hotels, from the Peninsula to the Ritz-Carlton, are on the splurge list. They aren’t ranked here because the score rewards the ride and the distance, not the room.
| Hotel | What we found |
|---|---|
| Novotel Hong Kong Citygate, Tung Chung | Level on 16 with the airport hotels that made the twenty, and placed behind them on road distance to Kai Tak (about 22.4 miles). Its free airport shuttle runs every 20 minutes from 06:00 to 23:40. The page says breakfast is included without saying for which rates. |
| The Silveri Hotel Hong Kong, MGallery | Also on 16, and a little farther out than Novotel Citygate: about 22.6 miles to Kai Tak. The page prints the 3% accommodation tax, a seasonal 25 m pool and a 24-hour gym, and says nothing about an airport shuttle. |
| Regal Airport Hotel | Last of the three on 16, at about 22.9 miles from Kai Tak. It has an enclosed bridge to Terminal 1 and 1,171 rooms, and breakfast is a members-only club lounge perk. |
| Four Points by Sheraton Hong Kong, Tung Chung | Scored 13. It shares an address and shuttles with Sheraton Tung Chung, but its page says no free breakfast and no on-site parking, and prints no pool. |
| Harbour Grand Kowloon | We read only its location page. It gives MTR Whampoa exit D2, a two-minute walk to Hung Hom Ferry Pier and a 10-minute trip to Airport Express Kowloon Station, but no address, rooms, breakfast or facilities, so it isn't ranked. |
| Empire hotels, Tsim Sha Tsui | The official page returned only a title. With no facts, we print none. |
| Mandarin Oriental and The Upper House | Not read yet. A hotel goes on our lists only after we've read its own page. |
| The Lan Kwai Fong, Tapestry Collection by Hilton | Not open yet. Hilton lists it as coming soon, with reservations from 1 January 2027. |
| The Hari Hong Kong | Open since December 2020, and bookable through IHG from 28 September 2026 as a Vignette Collection hotel. We haven't read its own page, so it isn't scored. |
Chek Lap Kok is the only airport you need — about 23.0 road miles (37.0 km) from Kai Tak by our routing, roughly 36 minutes with no traffic, and 19.9 road miles from Ocean Terminal.
The terminal prints about HK$310 for the taxi to Kai Tak and Holland America about HK$350 with 45 minutes. Plan for the higher one.
The Airport Express takes about 24 minutes to Hong Kong Station, per the airport, and the MTR’s fare table lists HK$105 with Octopus to Kowloon Station.
The table above shows what each hotel publishes. The airport page sets the taxi, the train, the bus and the transfers side by side — open it before you book the flight.

It depends on your terminal. Prince is first on 55, ahead of Holiday Inn Express Kowloon CBD2 on 52, and Marco Polo Hongkong is third on 43.
Prince and Marco Polo both sit in Harbour City with Ocean Terminal, about 0.3 and 0.04 road miles from it by our routing, so they suit a ship there. For Kai Tak, Holiday Inn Express Kowloon CBD2 is the closest we measured: about 2.3 road miles away, with breakfast in the rate.
Find your terminal in your cruise documents, not on a map, before you read the ranking.
Probably Kai Tak — it's at 33 Shing Fung Road in Kowloon Bay, on the old runway, and every mainstream turnaround on its own 2026-27 schedule starts and ends there. That's why we rank against it.
Ocean Terminal, in Harbour City on Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, is the other one. StarCruises' Star Voyager sails from it between September 30 and November 13, 2026, per Cruise Industry News, and we found no other published 2026-27 line-up for it.
Your cruise documents name the terminal. The China Ferry Terminal is neither.
Only to Ocean Terminal, and only from Harbour City. Marco Polo Hongkong is about 0.04 road miles from it and Prince about 0.3, so they get our walk credit.
Gateway looks close on the map — it's about 0.8 road miles by the driving route, so it doesn't. No hotel is within walking distance of Kai Tak: the nearest of the twenty is Holiday Inn Express Kowloon CBD2, about 2.3 road miles by our routing, and the next is 4.3.
Kai Tak has no MTR station, so you ride a bus or minibus from one. Its own page lists bus 5R to Ngau Tau Kok and Kwun Tong MTR at HK$8.1 (about US$1), minibus 86 to Kowloon Bay MTR at HK$7.1 (about US$0.90), bus 22S to Kai Tak MTR at HK$7.30 (about US$0.93) and bus 22 to Kowloon Tong at HK$6.4.
Bus 20X, a new circular route from Tsim Sha Tsui since 28 September 2026 (06:00 to 23:00, every 20 to 30 minutes), costs HK$10.30. Bus 20A to West Kowloon is HK$7.5, and bus 5R runs 07:00 to 22:00 daily.
With bags, book the taxi, not the bus.
No — Prince, Mondrian and Regal Kowloon mention it on their pages, and it's easy to read past. It's a ferry port.
Ocean Terminal is the cruise terminal, in Harbour City on Canton Road, not the ferry pier.
Three of the twenty do: Regal Kowloon, Sheraton Tung Chung and SkyCity Marriott. None of them goes to a ship.
Regal Airport, which we left out of the twenty, is joined to Terminal 1 by an enclosed bridge, so it doesn't need one. From the rest, it's the Airport Express, the A21 bus or a taxi from the Taxi Station outside the Arrivals Hall.
The 3% Hotel Accommodation Tax, in force since 1 January 2025 per the Inland Revenue Department — and commonly a 10% service charge.
