Getting There · JAXPORT

Nearest Airports to JAXPORT

This one’s easy. Jacksonville International is about 12 miles from the cruise terminal, by the port’s count, and nothing else comes close. Orlando and Savannah are hours away, and nobody official even measures them. Here’s what that means for getting to the ship.

The short answer

Fly into Jacksonville. The port puts JAX about 12 miles from the terminal, and more than 7.6 million people flew through it in 2024, its busiest year yet.

Orlando, Savannah and Gainesville are the long way round. No official source gives a distance from any of them to the terminal, and Rome2Rio only shows them by bus or train. Fly into one for the fare, rent a car, and come up the day before.

Pick JAX if

  • You want a short ride to the ship
  • You might land on sail morning
  • You want a free hotel ride: twelve of our top twenty run one from JAX

Pick Orlando or Savannah if

  • The fare beats Jacksonville by more than a rental car and a tank of gas
  • You’re landing at least a day early
  • You’d rent a car anyway

Getting picked up
Taxis and rideshare outside baggage claim
zTrip runs the taxis from booths on the lower level outside baggage claim, and publishes no fares. Uber and Lyft pick up at Poles 1 and 2 on the lower arrival curb, with an airport fee on pick-ups. Hotel shuttles use the north end of the upper departure curb. Rental cars are on the lower level by baggage claim. No luggage lockers, and no Priority Pass lounge today.

No official distance
No airport, cruise line or port page we read measures any of the three to JAXPORT. Rome2Rio, a third party, only routes them by public transport: MCO by bus in about 5 hours 15 minutes, SAV by train in about 3 hours, GNV by bus in about 3 hours.
Why they come up
Fares
They’re here because cruisers ask, not because they compete with JAX. If one saves you real money, rent a car at the airport and drive up the day before.

The Ride

What the ride to the ship costs

Set how many of you are riding. The taxi figure is a third party’s estimate for the car, and the private cars are priced by the vehicle, so the cheapest answer changes with your party. There’s no per-person cruise-line transfer here to compare against.

Travelers
Taxi, Rome2Rio’s estimate, top of its range (third party)—
Private transfer on Viator, per group—
Black car on Viator, up to three—

One way, before tip, as each company published it on September 25, 2026. zTrip, the airport’s taxi franchise, publishes no fares, so the taxi row is Rome2Rio’s estimate of $28 to $35, shown at the top of the range. The Viator listings are priced per group; the black car takes up to three. Uber has no route page for this trip, and neither Carnival nor Norwegian publishes a Jacksonville transfer. EZ Airport Shuttle, Advanced Transportation Group and Infinity Transportation all serve the port and publish no fares.

Heading home after the cruise? JAXPORT’s franchised taxi runs from the terminal to the airport, and Viator lists a port-to-JAX private car from $162. The port’s two pages give different taxi numbers: (904) 222-2222 on its transportation page, (904) 999-9999 in its FAQ.

Sail-Day Landing

Landing on sail day? Check your timing

No cruise line we read publishes a landing guideline for Jacksonville, and there’s no cruise-line transfer with a cut-off. So the yardstick is our own rule of thumb, labelled as ours. Enter your landing time and the departure time from your cruise documents.

  • Taxi or rideshare, any lineNo cut-off of its own. The port puts JAX about 12 miles away. Our rule of thumb, not a line’s: land at least 2 hours before the ship leaves, and treat your line’s check-in window as the real deadline.—
  • Private car, booked aheadViator lists private transfers from about $104 a group, and a black car for up to three at $135. Neither publishes a landing cut-off.—
  • Rental car or car serviceNo published guideline, and no official distance to JAXPORT. Rome2Rio shows only a bus, at 5 hours 15 minutes. Fly in the day before.—
  • Rental car or car serviceNo published guideline, and no official distance to JAXPORT. Rome2Rio shows only a train, at about 3 hours. Fly in the day before.—

Whatever the ride, your cruise line’s check-in window is the real deadline. It’s printed in your boarding documents. A delayed flight eats into it fast, which is the whole case for flying in the day before.

Coming Home

The morning you’re back

Ships clear early, flights leave late, and the gap in between is the part nobody plans. Put in your flight and this works out the ride, the wait, and what to do with the bags.

Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.

Train and Bus

Can you get to the port without a car?

Not really. The port lists a taxi line, a shuttle phone line and its own parking lot, and no bus route; we found none. There are no rental car counters at the terminal, so if you want a car, pick it up at the airport.

The terminal sits on its own at Dames Point, and there’s nothing to walk to. The nearest hotel is the Holiday Inn Express on Blount Island, which IHG calls the closest hotel to the terminal.

Bags: JAX has no luggage lockers, and Bounce lists 28 storage spots around Jacksonville, from $4.95 a day, none of them near the port. The easiest place to leave bags for a few hours is your hotel.

Fly In Early

Flying in the day before

The day-before flight is the one move that takes sail-day timing off the table. It costs a hotel night. It buys you the morning.

Twelve of our top twenty run a free shuttle from JAX, and every one of them is by the airport. Only the Crowne Plaza Airport publishes a ride on to the ship, and only inside its package. For the rest, the morning is a cab of about 10 miles.

FAQ

JAXPORT airport FAQ

What is the closest airport to JAXPORT?

Jacksonville International (JAX). The port puts it about 12 miles from the cruise terminal; the airport publishes no figure of its own. Third-party estimates run from 10.2 miles and 14 minutes (Rome2Rio) to a 25-minute drive (Cruise Critic). It's the only airport with a real claim on this port.

Should I fly into Jacksonville, Orlando or Savannah for a cruise?

Jacksonville, almost every time. No official source gives a distance from Orlando or Savannah to the terminal, and Rome2Rio shows them only by bus or train: 5 hours 15 minutes from MCO, about 3 hours from SAV. If the fare from one of them is much lower, rent a car and come up the day before.

How much is a taxi from JAX to the cruise port?

Nobody official says. zTrip runs the airport taxis and publishes no rates, only that there's no surge pricing. Rome2Rio, a third party, estimates $28 to $35 to the cruise terminal. Uber has no route page for this trip.

Does Carnival run a transfer from Jacksonville airport?

No. Carnival's transfers page lists 14 cities, Tampa and Orlando among them, and Jacksonville isn't one. Norwegian publishes no Jacksonville transfer price either. It's a taxi, a rideshare or a private car: Viator lists private transfers from about $104 a group.

Can I fly in on the morning of my cruise?

Into JAX, people do, because it's about 12 miles. No cruise line we read publishes a landing guideline for Jacksonville, so the real deadline is your line's check-in window, printed in your boarding documents. Our rule of thumb, not a line's: land at least 2 hours before the ship leaves. From Orlando or Savannah, fly in the day before.

Is there a Priority Pass lounge at JAX?

Not today, per Chase's Priority Pass guide and Priority Pass's own lounge list. The airport's 2019 release said The Club JAX took Priority Pass, and that's out of date. The Delta Sky Club on Concourse A is for Delta's own eligible flyers, and LoungePair doesn't sell passes at JAX.

Is there a train or bus from the airport to the port?

Not that we could find. The port lists taxis, a shuttle phone line and its own parking lot, and no bus route. There are no rental car counters at the terminal either, so pick a car up at the airport if you want one.

Can I fly home the same morning I get off the ship?

The port says debarkation starts around 7:15 AM for people carrying their own bags and around 10:15 AM for everyone else. JAXPORT's franchised taxi runs from the terminal to the airport, about 12 miles. The Coming Home tool on this page works the gap out for your flight.
