Romantik Hotel Kieler Kaufmann
The one hotel in Kiel that sells a night, breakfast and parking for the whole cruise on its own site — from €299 for two, about 1.3 miles on foot from Ostseekai.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Kiel
Seventeen hotels for a Kiel cruise, from the castle by Ostseekai to the east bank and Hamburg, scored on what gets you to the ship, not on reviews. Kiel has two cruise terminals, so check yours first: Ostseekai for TUI and AIDA, Ostuferhafen for MSC and Costa.
Three taps and we’ll show your best three hotels.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. Booking.com links pay us a commission; they don’t change the order.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, beach, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (rental cars) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
Kieler Kaufmann wins on the one park-and-cruise package a Kiel hotel sells on its own site, with breakfast and a pool. Hotel am Kieler Schloss is the only hotel that prints a walk to the cruise terminal, and Comfort Hotel tom Kyle adds breakfast in the rate, about 0.5 miles on foot from Ostseekai.
Narrow the list by what your night needs, then tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Why seventeen, not twenty? We checked 23 hotels and ranked only those we could confirm are open and that publish enough to score. Six didn’t clear that bar, and we didn’t pad the list with booking-site names to reach a round number — they’re listed here. Two cards lean on a third-party source for some facts, and they say so: Dietrichsdorfer Hof’s check-in details and Hotel Kiel by Golden Tulip’s package.

Twenty-two rooms about 120 m from Kiel Hbf, one family room for four, and breakfast from €12 (about US$13) — about 1.0 miles on foot to Ostseekai.
A hotel by the B4 approach that a reseller sells with 8 days' parking and taxis to the port — about 1.9 road miles from Ostseekai by our routing.
The late-landing option: a 267-room hotel joined to Hamburg Airport's terminals by a footbridge, about 57.5 road miles from Kiel's ships.
A 155-room IntercityHotel at Hamburg's main station: the train to Kiel leaves from downstairs, and the fastest takes 1 hour 7 minutes, per Deutsche Bahn.
No hotel on the list has all of those. Try dropping one filter.
Booking.com lists airport taxis you can book ahead. Check the pickup point, the price and the cancellation terms before you book.

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.
None of the seventeen runs an airport shuttle. Only the Radisson Blu, at Hamburg Airport itself, has an easy way from arrivals: a footbridge, per Radisson's page. From Hamburg, Kiel is a bus, a train or about an hour's drive.
Hamburg Airport · about 58.7 miles (94.5 km) to Ostseekai and 61.9 to Ostuferhafen, our routing; Kielius bus €26 (about US$30) online
The Kielius leaves from the Airport Plaza, underground level, and ends at Kiel ZOB beside the Hauptbahnhof — about 1 hour 35 minutes, roughly 13 trips a day in the summer timetable (March to October; a winter timetable follows), first 05:50 and last 23:45. Fares from March 1, 2026; the Deutschlandticket isn't valid. Kielius's fare page lists card payment on board, but a notice about four newer buses said otherwise, so carry a few euros.
The S1 runs from the airport to Hamburg Hbf every 10 minutes, 25 minutes each way, per the airport. The fastest Hamburg–Kiel train takes 1 hour 7 minutes, about 48 a day, per Deutsche Bahn, whose sample fares ran from €17.98 to €34.00 (about US$20–40) — examples, not fixed prices.
Taxis wait at Terminals 1 and 2 arrivals. The airport says you can arrange fixed prices for trips outside Hamburg and names Hansa-Taxi, Taxiruf, Taxi Hamburg and the FreeNow app, but prints no Kiel fare. Our routing puts the drive to Ostseekai at about 58.7 miles and 66 minutes with no traffic.
MSC includes the transfer when you book its flights and otherwise arranges Hamburg Airport transfers through its call centre, with no price published. AIDA's free shuttle runs from Hamburg, Kiel and Bremerhaven Hbf for Rail&Cruise ticket holders. We found no Hamburg Airport transfer price from Costa or TUI.
The rental desks are on the arrivals level of Terminal 2: Avis/Budget, Enterprise/Alamo, Europcar, Green Motion, Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty, SIXT and Wheego, per the airport. Our routing gives about 58.7 miles to Ostseekai and 61.9 to Ostuferhafen.

These seventeen are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room. Michelin’s October 2025 Key list has no hotel in Kiel itself, so the splurge list reaches out to Hamburg and the Baltic coast — up to about an hour’s drive from the ship, and we say so on every card.
Kiel has two cruise terminals, and the bands go by whichever is nearer. Ostseekai is measured to de.wikipedia’s coordinate for the quay, Ostuferhafen to Esri’s point for Ostuferhafen 15 — terminals, not gangways. Central hotels are measured on foot to Ostseekai; the foot router can’t reach Ostuferhafen, so everything to it is by road with no traffic — a floor, not a promise.
Two of the seventeen sit across the road from Ostseekai and three within about 0.6 miles of a terminal. Nine are by Kiel Hbf or along the Kiellinie, one is south of the station and two are in Hamburg. Sailing MSC or Costa? Only Dietrichsdorfer Hof sits near Ostuferhafen; from the other Kiel hotels it’s about 4.2 to 6.6 road miles.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things make a Kiel night before easy or hard, and in this port the first one is knowing which terminal is yours. We score each only from what the hotel publishes on its own site or its brand’s.
Hotels earn points for what they print: distance, a ride, cruise parking, breakfast, an evening. No print, no points. A reseller’s package is information, never points. A distance to the Norwegenkai or Schwedenkai is a ferry distance, not a cruise one.
By band, from the nearer terminal: across from Ostseekai 30; within 0.6 miles 25; the station and the Kiellinie 20; south of the station 15; Hamburg 10.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel prints at half a mile or less 15 — only Hotel am Kieler Schloss does. A named partner 10.
A published rate to leave the car while you cruise 20; offered, price unpublished 14. Daily garage rates don’t count unless the hotel says they cover a cruise. Only the Kieler Kaufmann scores here.
A breakfast the hotel says is included scores 10. Two of the seventeen say so: the Kieler Kaufmann inside its cruise package, and Comfort Hotel tom Kyle in its room rates.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3. No beach points here.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the shorter distance to the nearer terminal by our routing, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. The ATLANTIC, me and all and IntercityHotel Kiel tie on 23; the IntercityHotel drops to the back because only a tourism listing mentions its parking. Four tie on 20: Berliner Hof, B&B Kiel-City and the Kieler Yacht-Club by distance, then Liegeplatz 13, whose page doesn’t mention parking.
What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates change daily, so they aren’t scored — and neither are review scores or star ratings, which we print where a source gives one.
Add the tax before you compare rates. From October 1, 2026, Kiel charges 5% of the net room price, per the city’s information sheet, unless you booked between January 1 and September 30, 2026 for a stay ending by June 30, 2027. On a €150 (about US$170) net rate that’s €7.50 (about US$8) a night. Hamburg adds its own Kultur- und Tourismustaxe per guest and night: €0.60 for a net rate up to €25, €1.20 up to €50, €2.40 up to €100, €3.60 up to €150, €4.80 up to €200, then €1.20 more per extra €50, per hamburg.de. Booking sites may show a room price without the tax; ask the hotel at check-in what it adds.
One Kiel hotel publishes a price to leave the car while you sail. Here’s everything that is published, from the least certain to the official.
At the hotels. The Kieler Kaufmann’s own Park, Sleep & Cruise package keeps the car at the hotel for the whole trip, with a night and breakfast, from €299 for a Superior Double. Everyone else prints a daily rate or nothing: the ATLANTIC charges guests €22.00 a day for its garage, without saying it runs for a cruise week.
Through resellers. Holiday Extras lists 1 night plus 8 days’ parking from €225.00 (about US$255) at the Berliner Hof and €249.50 (about US$280) at Hotel Kiel by Golden Tulip, with port taxis, and kurzurlaub.de lists the Kieler Yacht-Club at €20 (about US$20) a night for cruise parking. None of those is on the hotel’s own page — confirm with the hotel before you pay.
At the port. Port Parking, run by the Port of Kiel, books online only. Ostseekai, at the terminal, costs TUI Cruises guests €174 (about US$195) for 7–8 days; AIDA guests get Ostseekai spaces only through AIDA. Ostuferhafen, 1–2 minutes’ walk from berth 1, is for MSC and Costa: €149 (about US$165) for 7–8 days. AIDA guests use the shuttle car park at Kiel Airport, from €110 (about US$125) for 2–4 nights. Spaces are 5 m long.
| The ATLANTIC Hotel’s guest garage, €22.00 a day as the hotel prints it | — |
Our total counts each cruise night plus one day at the ATLANTIC’s €22.00 guest rate — €176 (about US$200) for a week, close to Port Parking’s €174 at Ostseekai, which is a flat price for 7–8 days. Ask the hotel whether its garage takes a car for a week before you count on it.
Every option side by side: Kiel cruise parking, compared.
We checked 23 hotels; seventeen were open and published enough to score. We list them so you know we looked, not because they’re bad.
| Hotel | Why it isn’t ranked |
|---|---|
| GHOTEL hotel & living Kiel | Booking.com still lists it, but ghotel.de now redirects to another hotel group's homepage with no Kiel hotel on it. We couldn't confirm it's open, so it isn't ranked. |
| ibis Styles Kiel City | We found only a Booking.com listing and an OTA distance — no address or facts from Accor's own pages. Too little to score. |
| Hotel Flämischer Hof | Known to us from a booking-site listing (1,250 ft from Ostseekai Pier, as that site prints it) and nothing else — no address of its own we could read. |
| Courtyard by Marriott Hamburg Airport | A Booking.com listing only; Marriott's own page wasn't in our research. Not scored. |
| B&B Hotel Hamburg-Airport | A Booking.com listing only, with no address or facts from B&B HOTELS' own site. Not scored. |
| Hotel Astor Kiel by Campanile | On the Louvre Hotels Kiel list, "130 m from the city center", with no working link to its own page when we read it. |
Hamburg Airport is the gateway — about 58.7 road miles (94.5 km) from Ostseekai by our routing, roughly 66 minutes with no traffic. The Kielius bus runs from the airport to Kiel ZOB in about 1 hour 35 minutes, €26 online or €27 on the bus, and the S1 links the airport to Hamburg Hbf for the train.
Most of the lines that start here sell rail packages too: AIDA’s free shuttle from Hamburg, Kiel and Bremerhaven Hbf is for Rail&Cruise ticket holders, and TUI sells a Rail&Cruise ticket from any German station. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes; the airport page has the bus, the trains and the drive.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.
Booking.com links are affiliate links: Seabound Journeys may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change what we recommend. Affiliate disclosure.
On our scoring it's the Romantik Hotel Kieler Kaufmann in Düsternbrook. Its own Park, Sleep & Cruise package covers a night, breakfast and parking for the whole trip, from €299 for a Superior Double as printed on October 3, 2026. Hotel am Kieler Schloss, which prints a 4-minute walk to the cruise terminal, is second, and Comfort Hotel tom Kyle, with breakfast in the rate and about 0.5 miles on foot to Ostseekai, is third. The Steigenberger Conti Hansa, the shortest walk we measured, is fourth.
Kiel has two embarkation terminals. Ostseekai, berths 27 and 28, sits beside the Altstadt and is where TUI Cruises' Mein Schiff ships and AIDA board. Ostuferhafen berth 1, at Ostuferhafen 15 on the east bank, is where MSC and Costa board, per MSC and the port's own car-park rules. The Norwegenkai and Schwedenkai near the station are ferry berths, not cruise terminals. Your documents name yours.
To Ostseekai, often yes — our walking routes from the central hotels run about 0.2 to 1.3 miles. Ostuferhafen is different: it's about 8 km from Kiel Hbf by road, per MSC, and the foot router couldn't reach it, so plan a taxi, the city bus or MSC's shuttle.
At one, on its own site: the Kieler Kaufmann's Park, Sleep & Cruise package. Resellers list packages at the Berliner Hof, Hotel Kiel by Golden Tulip and the Kieler Yacht-Club, which the hotels' own pages don't show, so confirm them with the hotel. Port Parking, run by the port, sells the official lots online: €174 for 7–8 days at Ostseekai, TUI Cruises' price, and €149 at Ostuferhafen for MSC and Costa.
From October 1, 2026, yes: an overnight tax of 5% of the net room price, per the city's information sheet; a stay booked January 1 to September 30, 2026 and ending by June 30, 2027 is exempt. Stays booked between January 1 and September 30, 2026 that end by June 30, 2027 are exempt. Hamburg adds its own Kultur- und Tourismustaxe per guest and night, by net room price per person since January 1, 2025: €0.60 (about US$0.67) up to €25 (about US$30), €1.20 (about US$1) up to €50 (about US$55), €2.40 (about US$3) up to €100 (about US$110), €3.60 (about US$4) up to €150 and €4.80 (about US$5) up to €200 (about US$225), then €1.20 more per extra €50, per hamburg.de. Booking sites may show the room price without the Kiel tax, so ask the hotel at check-in what it adds.
Because Hamburg Airport is the gateway the lines name, about an hour from the ships. The Radisson Blu is joined to the terminals by a footbridge, per Radisson's page, and the IntercityHotel sits at Hamburg Hbf, where the Kiel trains leave. They score low on distance on purpose — they're for a late landing, not for an easy sail morning.
None of our seventeen runs a free one from HAM. Kiel's hotels sit about an hour from Hamburg Airport, so the ride is the Kielius bus (€26 online, about 1 hour 35 minutes), the S1 and a train via Hamburg Hbf, or a taxi at a price you arrange. The Radisson Blu joins the airport by a footbridge.
Room rates change daily, and a figure we printed would be stale before your sail date. We rank on what holds still — the trip to the terminal, parking, breakfast and the evening. The exception is a package a hotel prices on its own site, like the Kieler Kaufmann's, which we print with its date.
