Splurge Hotels · Port of New Orleans

The Nicest Night Near the Ship

New Orleans keeps its best hotels downtown, a short ride from the ship. Three are Forbes Four-Star — the Four Seasons, the Windsor Court and the Ritz-Carlton — and not one of the six publishes a ride to the terminals. Only the Omni gives a distance: a mile.

What kind of splurge is it?

We looked for the nicest places to stay before a New Orleans cruise, not the most practical — that’s what our top 20 is for. Tap the night you’re after and the pick lights up.

All six are on AAA’s 2026 Four Diamond list, and three are Forbes Four-Star. Nothing in Louisiana is Five Diamond, and we say so rather than stretch. We note Forbes’ rating wherever there is one.

The Trade

Splurge the night, plan the morning

None of these six drives you to the ship or publishes a rate to leave your car. That’s the trade for the nicer night, and in New Orleans it’s a small one: they’re downtown or in the Quarter, and the terminals are on the riverfront at the edge of the Warehouse District.

The Omni Royal Orleans puts them a mile away. The rest don’t say, so book a cab for the morning and let the concierge time it.

Driving? The port’s own garage charges a flat $180 for a 7-night cruise. Want a rated hotel and the walk? The Hilton New Orleans Riverside is AAA Four Diamond, says you can walk straight to the terminal, and ranks second in our top 20.

Four that didn’t make the six

HotelWhy it isn’t in the six
Hilton New Orleans RiversideAAA Four Diamond, and the most practical of the rated hotels: Hilton says you walk straight to the terminal, and it sells a cruise package with discounted parking. It's a big convention hotel, not a splurge. It ranks second in our top 20.
Virgin Hotels New OrleansAAA Four Diamond since 2022, with a rooftop pool; a lifestyle hotel rather than a flagship, and nothing published about the cruise.
Maison MétierThe former Maison de la Luz, a boutique in the CBD, now with Hyatt. A $35-a-day destination fee, no pool of its own, and no AAA or Forbes rating.
Hotel Saint VincentA 75-room boutique on Magazine Street with a courtyard pool, which says it holds a Michelin Key. Not on AAA's 2026 lists or Forbes' New Orleans page, and a drive from the ship.

FAQ

Splurge hotels FAQ

What is the nicest hotel near the New Orleans cruise port?

By the ratings, it's a three-way tie: the Four Seasons, the Windsor Court and the Ritz-Carlton are all Forbes Four-Star and AAA Four Diamond. The Four Seasons is at the foot of Canal Street on the river; the Windsor Court adds a Four-Star spa and restaurant. None of the three gives a distance to the terminals. The Omni Royal Orleans, in the French Quarter, is the only one of our six that does: a mile.

Are there Five Diamond hotels in New Orleans?

No. AAA's 2026 Five Diamond list has nothing in Louisiana, and Forbes lists no Five-Star hotel in New Orleans. Three hotels are Forbes Four-Star, and AAA lists 21 Four Diamond hotels in the city.

Do luxury hotels in New Orleans have a cruise shuttle?

None of the six publishes one. The Windsor Court runs a free house car within a 3-mile radius at set hours, but its page doesn't mention the terminals, so ask. The Omni Royal Orleans puts the terminals a mile away. From any of them, it's a short cab.

Can I leave my car at a splurge hotel while I cruise?

None of the six says so. Valet runs $56 to $62 a night at the ones that print it, and the Ritz-Carlton's Park and Play gives free valet on stays of two nights or more, with no cruise wording. If you're driving, the port's own garage charges $180 for a 7-night cruise.

Is the Fairmont New Orleans open?

Not yet. Fairmont's own page is taking reservations for November 2026, for a 250-room hotel in the old Bank of New Orleans building. And Maison de la Luz is now Maison Métier, with Hyatt.
