Splurge Hotels · Québec City

The Nicest Night Near the Ship

Québec City is kind to a splurge. Three of AAA’s Four Diamond hotels are in the Old Port with the terminals, and the Château Frontenac is just up the hill. All six of our picks make the top 20 on the cruise morning too.

What kind of splurge is it?

We looked for the nicest places to stay before a cruise from Québec City. All six also make our top 20, because the old city sits right on top of the port. Tap the night you’re after and the pick lights up.

Five are AAA Four Diamond on AAA’s Québec City list, and Auberge Saint-Antoine is the one hotel on Forbes’s Québec City page. The Monastère isn’t on AAA’s list, and we say so rather than stretch.

Splurge the night, and plan the morning

None of the six runs a shuttle. Auberge Saint-Antoine, Hôtel 71 and Le Germain are in the Old Port with the terminals; from the Château Frontenac, Manoir Victoria and the Monastère, up the hill, it’s a short cab down with bags.

Breakfast is extra almost everywhere. The Monastère includes it; Auberge Saint-Antoine charges C$42 a person, and the others sell it in packages.

Parking adds up: C$26 a day at the Monastère, C$40 valet at Hôtel 71, C$45 at Auberge Saint-Antoine and C$55 at the Château Frontenac, which also adds a C$40 experience fee a night. None of the six says you can leave the car while you cruise.

Hôtel Le Bonne Entente
Its site calls it five-star, four-diamond and Forbes four-star. It isn't on AAA's Québec City Four Diamond list or Forbes's Québec City page as we read them, and it's in Sainte-Foy, a drive from the port, so we left it out.
