The short answer

Fly into Ushuaia Malvinas Argentinas International Airport (USH). Flights from Buenos Aires take about three hours, per Turismo Ushuaia. HX includes the flight from Buenos Aires; Lindblad sells a recommended group flight, from Buenos Aires or Santiago depending on the ship, with airport transfers.

If your line sells a transfer, that’s your ride — otherwise it’s a taxi or a remis: Turismo Ushuaia says there’s no public transport from the airport, taxis are metered, and remises quote a fixed fare by phone. No fare is published.

The one priced ride we found is a hotel van — Los Cauquenes runs it at US$15 per person each way, per Michelin.

Take a taxi or remis if

  • You’re going to a hotel the night before and your line doesn’t transfer you
  • You’ve booked your own flights

Use the line’s transfer if

  • You’re on the line’s group flight, as with HX or Lindblad
  • Your package includes it, as Quark’s does from airport to hotel

The Ride

What the ride to town costs

No taxi or remis fare is published, so there’s no taxi row — the one priced ride we found is a hotel van, per Michelin.

Travelers
Los Cauquenes hotel van, US$15 per person each way (Michelin Guide)—

One way, in US dollars, as Michelin’s listing read on October 12, 2026. It’s the hotel’s own van, not a public service — and Michelin doesn’t say whether non-guests can use it. A private transfer from the same hotel is US$200.

Taxis are metered and remises quote a fixed fare by phone, per Turismo Ushuaia. The municipal tourism desk at the airport opens for arrivals on (02901) 423970.

Sail-Day Landing

Landing on sail day? Check your timing

No line we read publishes a latest boarding time for Ushuaia — Quark boards usually around 4 pm, so the default below uses that. Both rows are our own margins, not a line’s rules.

  • A ride in with time to spareOur rule of thumb, not a line's: land at least 4 hours before boarding.—
  • The day beforeOur advice, not a line's rule: fly in the day before, as Quark’s itinerary and Oceanwide both suggest.—

Your boarding documents set your time — if you’re on the line’s own flight, the line plans it, and if you book your own, land the day before. Oceanwide warns the ship won’t wait for missing passengers or luggage.

Coming Home

The morning you’re back

Quark’s ship reaches the pier between 7 and 8 am, and it advises against flights before noon — Quark and Oceanwide both run group transfers to the airport. Enter your flight and when you expect to be ashore.

There are no partner links inside this planner. It’s built only from what the airport, the town’s tourism office, the lines and each hotel or its named listing publish.

Bags and Entry

Bags, entry and the charter

US citizens need no visa for visits of 90 days or less, per travel.state.gov. Your passport must be valid when you arrive, with a blank page for stamps.

Some Antarctic packages fly one way — Quark’s 2025-26 Antarctic Express brochure shows a flight back from King George Island to Punta Arenas with a strict 15 kg checked and 5 kg cabin limit and no paying for more. Check your own season’s figure before you pack.

No left-luggage service is published at the airport or the pier — Albatros stores bags outside its check-in hours, per the hotel, and Las Lengas lists bag storage. Quark keeps a luggage store open until 6 pm on disembarkation day for its own guests. For the pier and the lines, see our Ushuaia cruise guide.

Fly In Early

Flying in the day before

One night in Ushuaia takes the flight risk off sail day, and Quark builds that night in for you. Oceanwide also suggests arriving a day early.

None of the eleven lists a ride to the ship that we could find — by our map the waterfront hotels are a short walk from the pier gate. The hill hotels need a ride.
