Ushuaia’s port mainly serves ships bound for Antarctica, per CNN Español’s May 2026 report, and it’s Argentina’s second-busiest cruise port after Buenos Aires. Expedition ships board at the main pier on Av. Maipú, per Oceanwide.
Who runs the port is in dispute. Tierra del Fuego’s Dirección Provincial de Puertos ran it until 20 January 2026, when the national ports agency, ANPyN, intervened; as of late August 2026 the port was still under that intervention, per Chequeado, and the province wants it back. Your line handles boarding — confirm the quay and the time with it.
Entry is simple for Americans — travel.state.gov says no visa is needed for visits of 90 days or less. Your passport must be valid on arrival, with a blank page.

Deployments change every season, so this roster is dated and sourced.
Checked against each line’s own pages and brochures on October 12, 2026. Quark’s 2026-27 Antarctic Explorer, on Ocean Explorer, includes a hotel night and the airport transfer; bags go from the hotel lobby in the morning and boarding is usually around 4 pm. HX sells Highlights of Antarctica on MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen with a hotel night in Buenos Aires and an early flight to Ushuaia included. Lindblad’s National Geographic Endurance routes via Buenos Aires with a recommended group flight; National Geographic Resolution routes via Santiago through 2027-28. Oceanwide sails Hondius, Ortelius and Plancius from Ushuaia between 3 November 2026 and 4 April 2027. We couldn’t verify Ponant, Aurora, Seabourn, Silversea or Antarctica21 logistics in Ushuaia this round.

Where you can go
Voyages differ on whether they include the Falklands or South Georgia, and some fly one way — Quark’s 2025-26 Antarctic Express brochure, for one, shows a flight back from King George Island to Punta Arenas. The cards below are the regions, and one voyage won’t call at all of them.

Before or after the ship: the municipal tourism office runs a desk at the tourist pier and another at the airport for arrivals.
One gate, and who runs it
Oceanwide says Ushuaia has only one pier, in the main port on Av. Maipú. The entrance is opposite Lasserre street, the government building and Hotel Albatros, and you show your boarding pass to get onto the pier. CNN Español describes the terminal’s pier as 550 m long and shared with commercial, fishing and scientific vessels — where your ship berths is for your line to confirm.
No passenger terminal is published — lines run embarkation themselves. Quark collects bags from your hotel and buses you from a meeting point near the pier, while Oceanwide moves bags from a pick-up point but doesn’t include your own transfer to the ship.
| Quay | Where | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| Pier entrance | Av. Maipú, opposite Lasserre and Hotel Albatros | Boarding pass required to enter, per Oceanwide |
| The pier | About 550 m long, per CNN Español | Commercial, fishing and scientific vessels share it; ask your line where your ship berths |
| Port authority | The port has been under national intervention (ANPyN) since 20 January 2026 | Previously the province’s Dirección Provincial de Puertos; the province disputes the intervention and asks for the port back |
| Season | Late September to April | 515 ship calls confirmed for 2026-27 as of June 2026, per ANPyN |

Parking, in short
No cruise parking is published for the port. Several hotels list free parking for your stay — but none of the ones we checked says you can leave a car for the voyage.
Your line decides how the bags reach the ship — Quark collects them from the hotel lobby and Oceanwide moves them from a pick-up point, so check what yours does.
Getting here
Ushuaia’s airport is about 5 km from the city, per Turismo Ushuaia, and there’s no public transport from it to town. Flights from Buenos Aires, from Aeroparque or Ezeiza, take about three hours — with nearly twice as many in summer.
| From | Taxi | Public transport |
|---|---|---|
| USH — airport to town | Taxis are metered and remises quote a fixed fare by phone; neither publishes a fare. | None. Turismo Ushuaia says there’s no public transport from the airport. |
| USH — airport to the ship | Order a taxi or remis. | Your line’s transfer. Quark includes airport to hotel; HX includes the Buenos Aires flight, and Lindblad recommends a group flight with airport transfers. |
| Town — to the pier | A taxi from the center; hotels within a few hundred meters of the gate are a short walk by our map. | Take your line’s bus if it runs one. |
Visa rules for visits of 90 days or less are in the brief above; bring a passport valid on arrival. Ushuaia Airport to the ship has the rest.
The night before, ranked: we’ve scored eleven hotels for the night before an Ushuaia voyage, from the waterfront to the resorts in the hills, on what each one or its brand publishes, plus our own distances to the gate — facts from listings are shown but earn no points. None of the eleven lists a ride to the ship that we could find. Five worth knowing:
| Hotel | Where | One thing to know |
|---|---|---|
| Albatros | Av. Maipú, opposite the port | No. 1: opposite the pier gate, with a restaurant and a spa in every rate; one of Quark’s usual three. |
| Canal Beagle | Av. Maipú, by the port | About 50 m from the gate by our map, level with Albatros; its pool is from Booking.com, unconfirmed. |
| Wyndham Garden del Glaciar | The Martial road, in the hills | Its brand site says breakfast is free; up the Martial road. |
| Las Lengas | Goleta Florencia, near the center | One of Quark’s usual three, with a bar-restaurant and free parking. |
| Arakur | Cerro Alarkén | The resort on Cerro Alarkén, about 12 minutes from the port, per Arakur. |
