The Ride

What the ride to the ship costs

Pick your airport and how many of you are riding. A taxi is one price for the car, transfers charge per person, and private vans charge by the size of the group, so the cheapest answer changes with your party.

One way, before tip unless noted, as each company published it on September 25, 2026. “From” prices are the lowest a company shows; your quote may be higher. The port’s taxi figures are for the whole car, and taxis at the port run on the meter only. GO’s fares include tax, fees and tip. Florida Sunshine adds a surcharge for bookings within 7 days and $125 for a pickup before 10:30 AM. The Disney figure comes from a panelist on Disney’s own Q&A site, not a price page. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Princess and Holland America sell transfers too, but didn’t publish a price we could read.

Heading home after the cruise? The port lists Van on Demand booths at the terminals: shared vans for parties of three or more, $11 a person to FLL, $25 to MIA and $45 to Palm Beach, though not every sailing day. And give yourself room: the port warns that airlines at FLL may only check bags up to two hours before your flight.

Sail-Day Landing

Landing on sail day? Check your timing

No cruise line we read publishes a hard transfer cut-off for Port Everglades, so the useful yardstick is Princess’s flight guideline, measured back from when the ship leaves — a guideline, not a rule, and other lines may want more. Enter your landing time and the departure time from your cruise documents.

  • Princess guideline, domestic flightPrincess says to land at least 2 hours before the ship leaves. Other lines may ask for more.—
  • Princess guideline, international flightLand at least 3 hours before the ship leaves.—
  • Taxi or rideshareNo cut-off of its own. The port says to allow 45 minutes to an hour for the whole transfer from FLL.—
  • Private van or carPort Everglades Shuttle Service from $69 for up to five, GO Airport Shuttle from $47 for up to three. Florida Sunshine adds $125 for a pickup before 10:30 AM.—
  • Disney transfer (Disney guests)$29 a person, per a panelist on Disney’s Q&A site. Disney publishes no landing cut-off; its check-in starts at 11:15 AM.—
  • Princess guideline, domestic flightLand at least 3 hours before the ship leaves if you fly into Miami.—
  • Princess guideline, international flightLand at least 5 hours before the ship leaves.—
  • Taxi, rideshare or private vanNo cut-off of its own, but the port says to allow two to three hours from MIA.—
  • Private van or car serviceNo published guideline. The port says to allow three to four hours from Palm Beach, and Florida Sunshine charges $385 for up to four.—

Whatever the ride, your cruise line’s check-in window is the real deadline. It’s printed in your boarding documents, and the port asks you not to arrive before your assigned time. A delayed flight eats into it fast — which is the whole case for flying in the day before.

Ships clear early, flights leave late, and the gap in between is the part nobody plans. Put in your flight and this works out the ride, the wait, and what to do with the bags.

Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.

Train and Bus

Can you get to the port without a car?

Not all the way. Brightline’s Fort Lauderdale station is downtown, and Royal Caribbean puts it about 15 minutes from the port by car. Brightline runs a connector shuttle from FLL to the station for $12 a person plus a $3 fuel surcharge, with a same-day train ticket, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM by Brightline’s count (FLL’s page says 7 AM to 8 PM). Brightline’s cruise page pairs the station with Port Everglades but describes no shuttle to the terminals.

Princess announced a Rail & Sail program with Brightline in 2024, with a free motorcoach from the station to its terminal. We couldn’t confirm it’s still running, so ask Princess. On September 25, 2026, Brightline announced a financial restructuring of its parent companies and said it isn’t expected to affect operations.

From FLL, a free shuttle bus runs to the Tri-Rail station at Dania Beach, but there’s no transit link from there to the port. Broward County Transit buses stop at the port’s Northport section on SE 17th Street, per the port.

Fly In Early

Flying in the day before

The day-before flight is the one move that takes sail-day timing off the table, and FLL makes it easy. It costs a hotel night. It buys you the morning.

Twelve of our top twenty run a free FLL shuttle, and four of those also run the ride to the ship in the morning. Or stay on 17th Street, around the port’s entrance, and take a short taxi at sail time.

FAQ

Port Everglades airport FAQ

What is the closest airport to Port Everglades?

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL). The port puts it 1.8 miles away, and FLL calls it about a 10-minute ride. Cruise lines give anywhere from 2 to 5 miles — the road distance, not the map distance, and it depends where your terminal sits.

Should I fly into Fort Lauderdale or Miami for a Port Everglades cruise?

Fort Lauderdale for most people. It's next to the port, and in 2025 its airlines flew nonstop to 103 U.S. cities and 55 international destinations. Miami International has more flights — 172 nonstop destinations on 92 airlines — but it's 27 miles south, and the port says to allow two to three hours from MIA. Pick MIA when the flight is clearly better, not slightly better, and fly in a day early.

How much is a taxi from FLL to Port Everglades?

The port puts the average at $18 to $21 for the car, on the meter; flat fares aren't allowed at the port. FLL's own cruise page estimates $12, and Uber's route page estimated $24 in December 2024. Yellow Cab Broward lists a $13 minimum plus a $3 airport fee for trips from FLL.

Can I fly into Miami for a Port Everglades cruise?

Yes. It's 27 miles by the port's count, 30 to 45 minutes up I-95 in normal traffic, and the port says to allow two to three hours for the whole transfer. It puts a taxi at $80 to $159. Private vans start at $95 for up to five with Port Everglades Shuttle Service, and Florida Sunshine Shuttle charges $160 for up to four.

Can I fly in on the morning of my cruise?

Into FLL, many people do. Princess's guideline for Fort Lauderdale sailings is to land at least 2 hours before the ship leaves on a domestic flight, or 3 on an international one — 3 or 5 if you fly into Miami. The port says to allow 45 minutes to an hour for the transfer from FLL. Your line's check-in window is the real deadline, not the ship's departure time, so check that first.

Is there a train from the airport to Port Everglades?

Not all the way. Brightline runs a connector shuttle from FLL to its Fort Lauderdale station for $12 a person plus a $3 fuel surcharge with a same-day train ticket, and Royal Caribbean puts the station about 15 minutes from the port by car. Tri-Rail runs a free shuttle bus from FLL's terminals to its Dania Beach station, but no train goes to the port.

What happened to Palm Beach International (PBI)?

It's now President Donald J. Trump International Airport. The new name took effect July 9, 2026, and the airport's code changed from PBI to DJT on August 18, 2026, so search flights under DJT. Port Everglades' own pages still use the old name.
