Vagabond Inn - San Pedro
The simplest sail morning in San Pedro: a free drop-off at the terminal, $15 a night to leave the car, and breakfast on cruise days.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Los Angeles & Long Beach
Twenty hotels for a cruise from San Pedro or Long Beach, scored on what gets you to the ship, not on reviews. Pick yours, and let the trip start the night before.
Three taps and we’ll show your best three hotels.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. Nobody pays to be here.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, beach, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
One for San Pedro and two for Carnival. The Vagabond drops you at the World Cruise Center for free; The Maya’s nightly fee and the Quality Inn’s $20-a-group shuttle cover the ride to Long Beach.
Filter by what matters for your night. Save the ones you like, or tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.

The simplest sail morning in San Pedro: a free drop-off at the terminal, $15 a night to leave the car, and breakfast on cruise days.
A resort on the water a mile from the Carnival terminal, with its own sand beach and the terminal shuttle built into the nightly fee.
The cheapest printed ride to the Carnival terminal, $20 for up to four, plus free breakfast and parking packages of 4 or 7 days.
The lowest parking rate printed near the San Pedro terminal, $10 a day, with an $11 ride to the ship and your bags held if you need it.
One booking covers the night, 7 nights of parking, breakfast and a drop-off at the San Pedro terminal.
The only hotel on our list with a cruise package for both terminals: the night, 7 nights of parking and the ride there and back.
Sleep aboard the Queen Mary and walk to your Carnival ship next door, with your bags handled on the Stay & Cruise package.
Half a mile from the San Pedro terminal, with a $10 shuttle, a pool and a real restaurant. It just won't say whether you can leave the car.
A marina hotel two miles from the San Pedro terminal, with a cruise shuttle and a parking package that includes breakfast.
A mile from the Carnival terminal, with full kitchens, free breakfast and a Park and Cruise package that holds the car for 8 nights.
Snooze & Cruise: one night, a shuttle to the port and a week of parking, a few minutes from Long Beach Airport.
A mile from the Carnival terminal by Hilton's count, with a pool and a bar. Cruise parking is only Hilton's generic offer.
A printed rate to leave the car, from $23 a night, and a free shuttle from LGB. The catch: it's airport parking, and there's no ride to the ship.
A quarter mile from LAX, with a free airport shuttle, a kitchen in every suite and free breakfast. The ship is a long ride south.
A free hot breakfast downtown, 1.5 miles from the Queen Mary. Nothing for cruisers on its own page.
Free breakfast and free parking in Wilmington, 4.5 miles from the San Pedro terminal. The cruise parking rate isn't on its page.
Made-to-order breakfast, an evening reception and a free LAX shuttle, a mile south of the airport. The ship is still a long ride off.
The same Embassy formula, half a mile from LAX: free breakfast, an evening reception and the airport shuttle. Its parking is the priciest on our list.
Full kitchens, free breakfast and $15 parking near Long Beach Airport. Nothing for cruisers on Marriott's page.
A kitchen in every suite, free breakfast and a free shuttle from Long Beach Airport. For cruisers, IHG's pages say nothing.
No hotel on the list has all of those. Try dropping one filter.
Booking.com lists airport taxis you can book ahead. Check the pickup point, the price and the cancellation terms before you book.
Booking.com links are affiliate links: Seabound Journeys may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change what we recommend. Affiliate disclosure.
Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.
LAX is the big one, 18 miles from the San Pedro terminal by the port’s count; Long Beach Airport is the small one, 10 miles from San Pedro and closer to Carnival. Five of the twenty run a free airport shuttle, and all of them sit by an airport, not a terminal. For everyone else it’s a shared shuttle, Carnival’s transfer, a rideshare or a rental car.
Los Angeles International · 0.2–25 miles from these hotels, by their own counts
For Carnival guests, to the Long Beach terminal. From LAX your flight must land by noon; from LGB by 12:30 PM. Carnival times both rides at an hour. Coming home, the earliest flight is noon or 1 PM at LAX and 11 AM or 12:30 PM at LGB, depending on when the ship docks.
Its LAX-to-San Pedro page quotes "flat, upfront rates starting at $39" for its Express Service, without saying whether that's per person, and says to allow 45 to 60 minutes. It publishes no Long Beach port fare.
Its price list gives $99 from LAX to either terminal, and from LGB $75 to the Long Beach terminal or $85 to San Pedro. It doesn't say whether those are per person or per ride, so ask. Pay 24 hours ahead or to the driver.
Viator lists 26 Los Angeles port transfers: a private car from LAX to the cruise ports from about $130, LAX to or from the Carnival terminal from about $195, and LGB to either terminal from about $136.
Taxis pick up at the LAX-it lot next to Terminal 1, reached on foot or by the free green-signed shuttle. LA Yellow Cab's meter is $3.10 plus $2.97 a mile. No flat fare to either cruise terminal is published.
Long Beach Yellow Cab waits at the stand next to Parking Structure A. The airport lists flat fares to LAX ($75) and downtown LA ($85), but none to the cruise terminals.
At LAX, rideshare picks up at the LAX-it lot next to Terminal 1; shuttles run about every 7 minutes, around the clock. At LGB it's the outer curb in front of the terminal.
Driving? The column to watch is “While you sail”. Compare hotel parking with the port’s own garages on Los Angeles and Long Beach cruise parking, compared, or price it out in the parking math below.

These twenty are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room. Near LA’s two terminals the nicest hotels mostly skip the cruise details: the Queen Mary and The Maya make our top ten on theirs, while the area’s two AAA Four Diamond hotels, Terranea and westdrift, print nothing for cruisers. Nothing near either terminal is Five Diamond.
Two terminals, two towns. The World Cruise Center is on the San Pedro waterfront at Harbor Boulevard and Swinford Street; Carnival’s terminal is across the harbor in Long Beach, beside the Queen Mary. The bands measure each hotel from whichever terminal it’s near.
Eight of the twenty are by a terminal, from the Queen Mary next door to Carnival to the Crowne Plaza half a mile from San Pedro’s by IHG’s count. Four are around the harbor, five are in Lomita or by Long Beach Airport, and three are by LAX. Use the San Pedro and Long Beach filters above to see only the hotels for your terminal.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things decide how easy the night before is, and each one is scored only from what the hotel publishes on its own site or its brand’s.
If a hotel doesn't say it, it scores zero there — not a guess, zero. Cruise blogs, tourism-board flyers and expired offers don't count, and when a hotel’s own pages contradict each other, we score the claim as unconfirmed and tell you. Each page lists exactly what we couldn't confirm.
By band, measured from whichever terminal the hotel is near: by a terminal, in downtown San Pedro or downtown Long Beach, 30; around the harbor (Cabrillo Marina, Wilmington, Signal Hill, central Long Beach) 25; Lomita, the South Bay and Long Beach Airport 20; the beach cities 15; LAX and El Segundo 10.
Hotel-run shuttle, free or with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package or offer 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. The hotel puts the terminals within half a mile, so you walk 15. A partner shuttle 10.
Published rate to leave the car 20, including a rate that starts when you check out. Offered, price unpublished 14.
Sail mornings start early. A free breakfast on site scores 10.
On the beach 6 (The Maya’s own sand beach counts), pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate (a weekly rate counts at its daily equivalent), any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the closer stated mileage, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. That’s why the DoubleTree sits above the Residence Inn downtown, Homewood Suites LAX above the Best Western downtown, which publishes no parking rate, and Embassy Suites South above its sister. Eight hotels tie at 36: free breakfast and cheaper guest parking lift the Residence Inn and the Staybridge by Long Beach Airport into the twenty, and the alphabet splits those two.
What's left out is deliberate. Room rates change daily, so they aren't scored. Neither are guest-review scores — they measure a stay in general, not a sail morning.
The ranking tells you which hotel makes the morning easiest. Your dates and your budget decide the rest, so price your own night before you book the winner.
Set your cruise length. The three hotels that publish a leave-the-car rate are priced next to the terminals’ own parking, $23 a day at either.
| #1 Vagabond Inn San Pedro | — |
| #4 Guest Harbor Inn | — |
| #13 Courtyard LB Airport | — |
| The terminals’ own parking, $23 a day at either | — |
Parking at each hotel’s published rate before tax, plus its published ride to the terminal. The Vagabond is free the night you stay and $15 a night after, with a free drop-off at San Pedro. The Guest Harbor Inn is free while you stay and $10 a day after, plus its $11 ride, which we count per person because the hotel doesn’t say. Neither publishes the ride back. The Courtyard by Long Beach Airport sells long-term parking from $23 a night; we add its $20 guest rate for the night you stay, and it runs no ride to the ship, so its row reads “+ ride”. The port row is the terminals’ own $23 a day, San Pedro’s daily cap and Long Beach’s garage rate, counting the day you park and the day you leave. Hotels that sell parking only inside a package, or without a price, aren’t priced. Room rates aren’t included.
For the port’s lots, lot by lot, and the off-site options, see Los Angeles and Long Beach cruise parking, compared.
We checked 64 hotels. These came closest to the top twenty, with their scores and the reason each fell short.
| Hotel | Score | Why it missed |
|---|---|---|
| Homewood Suites by Hilton Long Beach Airport | 36 | Kitchens, free breakfast and a free LGB shuttle, 5 AM to 10 PM. Tied on 36 and behind on its $20 parking; nothing for cruisers. |
| Residence Inn Los Angeles Torrance/Redondo Beach | 36 | Full kitchens and free breakfast in Torrance, with $27.75 parking. Tied on 36; nothing about the cruise. |
| Courtyard by Marriott Long Beach Downtown | 36 | Downtown, with a heated pool and Salt & Grove. No free breakfast, no shuttle, $50 parking. |
| Hyatt Centric The Pike Long Beach | 36 | A rooftop pool with 360-degree views on the Pike. Hyatt's pages say nothing about the cruise. |
| Hyatt Regency Long Beach | 36 | Waterfront by the Convention Center, with a $30 nightly destination fee and no cruise details. |
| The Westin Long Beach | 36 | Marriott says the Queen Mary is "just steps away", and there's a heated pool. No shuttle, $49 parking. |
| Hampton Inn by Hilton Los Angeles Airport LAX | 34 | Free breakfast, a 24/7 LAX shuttle and Hilton's Park, Stay & Go offer, but no pool listed and 18-plus miles to the ship. |
| Hampton Inn Los Angeles/Carson/Torrance | 33 | Free breakfast and free parking in Carson. Nothing for cruisers. |
| Hampton Inn Long Beach Airport | 33 | Free breakfast and a free LGB shuttle. Nothing about the cruise. |
| Marriott Long Beach Downtown | 33 | Downtown, with Local Current for dinner, but the pool is listed as temporarily closed. No shuttle, $47 parking. |
Not ranked: San Pedro Hotel & Suites, 111 S Gaffey St. Formerly the Best Western Plus San Pedro. Best Western no longer lists it and we found no website of its own, so there was nothing official to score.; Sunrise Hotel San Pedro. Now Portside Inn & Suites, which we checked: $10-a-day parking, but no shuttle or cruise parking published.; El Dorado Coast Hotel, Lomita. Its address is now the Quality Inn - Torrance Lomita, No. 5 here.; Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Airport. Now the Sonesta Los Angeles Airport LAX.; La Quinta Inn & Suites LAX. Now the Hilton Garden Inn LAX Los Angeles Airport.; Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach & Marina. No longer on IHG’s site; we couldn’t confirm its current name.
Five of the twenty run a free airport shuttle, and none of them runs a ride to the ship: Homewood Suites and both Embassy Suites from LAX, and the Courtyard and the Staybridge from Long Beach Airport. The Quality Inn Signal Hill does both for a fee, $5 a person from LGB and $20 per group of four to Carnival.
The port puts LAX 18 miles from the San Pedro terminal and LGB 10. Carnival’s transfer is $34.99 a person from LAX and $31.99 from LGB. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes from each airport, and the planner turns your answers into a morning.

On our scoring it's the Vagabond Inn - San Pedro: a free drop-off at the World Cruise Center in San Pedro, $15 a night to leave the car, and breakfast on cruise days. For Carnival from Long Beach, The Maya is second: its $30 nightly fee includes a shuttle to the terminal a mile away. The Quality Inn Signal Hill is third, with a $20 shuttle for up to four. Best on paper, not best for everyone: the matcher above weighs your own answers.
Ten of our twenty publish a ride or a walk. For San Pedro: a free drop-off at the Vagabond, $11 at the Guest Harbor Inn, $10 a person at the Crowne Plaza, a shuttle based on availability at the DoubleTree, and a package ride from the Quality Inn Lomita. For Long Beach: The Maya's shuttle comes with its nightly fee, the Quality Inn Signal Hill charges $20 per group of four, and Hotel Current includes one in a package. The Cove's packages cover either terminal, and the Queen Mary is next door to Carnival. Third-party lists name more; we count only what the hotel itself says.
At three, with a published rate: the Guest Harbor Inn at $10 a day, the Vagabond at $15 a night, and the Courtyard by Long Beach Airport from $23 a night, sold as airport parking. Twelve more offer it without a firm price, mostly in cruise packages: The Maya, the two Quality Inns, The Cove, the DoubleTree, Hotel Current and the Residence Inn downtown. The Queen Mary's is seasonal, and the Hilton Long Beach and the three Hilton-brand hotels by LAX list only Hilton's generic Park, Stay & Go offer.
Often. Both terminals charge $23 a day, which comes to $184 for a 7-night cruise counting the day you park and the day you leave. The Guest Harbor Inn's $10 a day comes to $70 plus its $11 ride, and the Vagabond's $15 a night is $105 with a free drop-off. Run your own numbers in the calculator above.
Three of our twenty run a free shuttle from LAX: Homewood Suites LAX, Embassy Suites LAX South and Embassy Suites LAX North, all by the airport. Two run one from Long Beach Airport: Courtyard LB Airport and Staybridge LB Airport. The Quality Inn Signal Hill charges $5 a person from LGB. None of the hotels by the terminals runs a free airport shuttle, so it's a rideshare, a shared shuttle or Carnival's transfer ($34.99 from LAX, $31.99 from LGB) from there.
Per the Port of Los Angeles, Princess, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Virgin Voyages homeport at the Los Angeles Cruise Terminal, the World Cruise Center, in San Pedro, and many more lines call there. Carnival sails from its own Long Beach Cruise Terminal, next to the Queen Mary. They're different towns, so check your cruise documents before you book a hotel.
The hotels that print a distance put San Pedro's terminal 0.5 miles away (the Crowne Plaza) to 4.5 (the Best Western Worldport), and Carnival's from next door (the Queen Mary) to a mile (The Maya, the Residence Inn and the Hilton). The South Bay and Long Beach Airport hotels are a drive, and the port puts LAX 18 miles from San Pedro.
Hotel rates move every day and spike on busy sailing days, so any number we printed would be wrong by the time you read it. We rank on what doesn't change daily — shuttles, parking policies, breakfast — and leave the live rate to the booking site for your exact date. Price it for your own night before you assume the No. 1 is the cheap one.
