MOB sits well west of downtown, so the ride in is a real drive, not a hop. CruiseHive puts it at 25 to 35 minutes — $25 to $35 by taxi or rideshare.
Our own routing gives about 15 road miles from the terminal out to MOB and about 18 coming in, with no traffic, so budget the half-hour. With cruise luggage it’s a cab or rideshare — we found no bus to the airport. In spring 2027 the airlines are due to move to Mobile International at Brookley, about 4.7 road miles from the ship by our routing, and the sum gets easier.
Take a cab or rideshare if
- You’re going straight to the ship with checked bags
- Two to four of you can split one fare
- You land the morning you sail
Rent a car if
- You want a day on the Gulf Coast first
- You’re happy to pay the terminal deck, $23 a day per Visit Mobile, while you cruise
- Or you can drop it before you board

Two airfields, one with the flights
MOB sits about 13 miles west of the city, per Wikipedia. Mobile International, at the Brookley field, is three nautical miles south of the business district, per Wikipedia, and it’s where the airlines are due to move. The terminal is downtown on the river at 201 S. Water Street, with its own parking deck.

What the ride to the ship costs
Both rows are per car, so a full cab splits nicely — and neither is a quoted fare. One is the top of CruiseHive’s range; the other is our arithmetic from a third-party tariff.
| Taxi or rideshare, top of CruiseHive’s $25–$35 range | — |
| Taxi by the meter, our arithmetic from a third-party tariff | — |
One way, in US dollars, before tip. The metered figure is our arithmetic: $2.50 to start and $2.06 a mile, from a third-party site’s January 2025 Mobile tariff, over our 15-mile routing — coming in from MOB our router runs nearer 18 miles, which would make it about $40. CruiseHive’s range starts at $25.
Carnival’s airport-transfer page names no Mobile option, and we found no shuttle company with a published fare to the terminal — or a Mobile port-transfer listing on Viator to point you to.
Landing on sail day? Check your timing
We didn’t find a Mobile boarding cutoff on any line’s pages, so the only row here is our own margin, and we say so. Carnival’s itinerary pages list a 3:30 PM departure from Mobile; check yours in your cruise documents.
- Cab or rideshare, any lineA cab keeps no timetable of its own; the margin is ours, not Carnival’s — three hours from touchdown to sailing, with CruiseHive’s 25 to 35 minutes of driving inside it.—
What counts is the check-in time in your boarding documents, not the sailing time.
Land the day before. Wake up by the ship.
We ranked twenty hotels for a Mobile cruise, eight of them downtown, under a mile from the terminal by our routing. Send your sail date and flight, and we’ll match the hotel night to your landing.
The morning you’re back
Carnival Spirit's itinerary pages list an 8:00 AM arrival back in Mobile. We found no earliest-flight rule from Carnival — put in your flight and when you expect to be off, and this lays out the ride and the wait.
Partner links (rental cars) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
The train, the Wave and your suitcase
The train is the surprise. Amtrak’s Mardi Gras Service has run between New Orleans and Mobile since August 18, 2025, two round trips a day with stops at Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula. WLOX put coach fares at $15 and up at launch. The Mobile platform at 101 S. Water Street is about 400 yards from the cruise terminal, per Visit Mobile.
Buses don’t help from the airport — we found no Wave Transit route to MOB. In town, the Wave charges $1.25 a ride with one free transfer, or $3.00 for a day pass. The moda! downtown trolley runs weekdays, 7 AM to 3 PM; the Wave says it’s $0.50, the Downtown Mobile Alliance says free. MOB City Rides’ golf carts are $5 a person per ride downtown.
We found no official luggage storage at the terminal — The Admiral stores bags free, but only for its own guests, before check-in and after check-out. For Carnival, the terminal and where the ships go, see our Mobile cruise guide.
Flying in the day before
A hotel night buys back the whole of sail morning — a late flight becomes a late dinner, not a missed ship. In Mobile the night before can be a quarter-mile from the gangway.
One of our top twenty prints free airport transport: Holiday Inn West I-10, with 24 hours’ notice. Downtown, the Hampton Inn & Suites puts the terminal 0.25 miles away by Hilton’s count — take a cab from MOB the evening before and walk to the ship in the morning.

Mobile cruise airport FAQ
What is the closest airport to the Mobile cruise terminal?
For airline flights today, Mobile Regional (MOB), about 13 miles west of the city per Wikipedia. CruiseHive puts it 25 to 35 minutes from the terminal; our routing gives about 15 road miles from the terminal to MOB and 18 in the other direction. The closer field is Mobile International at Brookley, about 4.7 road miles away by our routing — but airline flights haven't moved there yet.
When do flights move to Mobile International (BFM)?
Not yet, and the date has already slipped once. The Mobile Airport Authority said in July 2025 that the new terminal would open in fall 2026, with a first flight by November. Its Build BFM site now says spring 2027, and Business View reported on August 27, 2026 that late spring is the goal. Book your flight into whichever airport your ticket names — for now that's MOB.
How much is a taxi from the Mobile airport to the cruise port?
CruiseHive puts a taxi or rideshare from MOB at $25 to $35. The airport names one cab company, Modern Transport, LLC, on 251-265-1029, and prints no fares. A third-party fare site lists Mobile's meter at $2.50 plus $2.06 a mile; over our 15-mile routing that's about $33 before tip, or nearer $40 on the 18 miles our router gives coming in from MOB. That's our arithmetic, not a quote.
Where do Uber and Lyft pick up at the Mobile airport?
The Mobile Airport Authority says rideshares use a designated area at the southwest corner of the main terminal. Uber's own page says to exit on the arrivals level and meet drivers on Terminal Drive. At the cruise terminal, the City of Mobile lists six covered pick-up and drop-off lanes.
Is there a bus or train from the airport to the cruise terminal?
Not from the airport — we found no Wave Transit route to MOB. From New Orleans, the answer is the train, not a bus. Amtrak's Mardi Gras Service has run two round trips a day between New Orleans and Mobile since August 18, 2025. WLOX reported coach fares from $15 at launch, and Visit Mobile says the platform is about 400 yards from the cruise terminal.
Can I fly into New Orleans and take the train to Mobile?
You can. Amtrak's Mardi Gras Service runs New Orleans to Mobile twice a day with stops on the Mississippi coast, Gulfport and Biloxi among them. Coach fares started at $15, per WLOX. Getting from Louis Armstrong International to the New Orleans station is up to you, and by our routing MSY is about 154 road miles from the terminal if you drive.
Can I fly into Pensacola instead?
Yes, if the fare is right. CruiseHive puts Pensacola (PNS) over 60 miles and an hour to an hour and a half away; our routing gives about 59 road miles and 74 minutes with no traffic. Gulfport-Biloxi (GPT) is about 73 road miles by our routing.
Does Carnival run a transfer from the Mobile airport?
Not one we could find. Carnival's airport-transfer page names no Mobile option or price, and we found no shuttle company with a published fare to the terminal, so plan on a cab or rideshare.
Where do I rent a car at the Mobile airport?
At MOB, where the airport authority lists Alamo, Avis, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, Thrifty and National — it says six companies and names seven. Discover Cars lists eight, with Budget. If you keep the car through the cruise, it sits in the terminal's deck at $23 a day by Visit Mobile's count.
Can I fly home the same day the ship gets back?
Probably, with room to spare. Carnival Spirit's itinerary pages list an 8:00 AM arrival in Mobile. We found no earliest-flight rule from Carnival for Mobile, so leave a wide gap after debarkation.
