Three small things at once put Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay first. IHG says breakfast is free with your stay, a rooftop 40-metre pool sits above 442 rooms, and Clarke Quay station, seven minutes on foot by IHG's count, is on the North East Line that ends at HarbourFront.
It's the only hotel in our twenty that says breakfast is free for every guest and also has a direct train to a terminal's station. By our routing the Singapore Cruise Centre is about 3.2 road miles (5.2 km) away, 7 minutes — so on a morning with luggage a taxi is the sensible way to finish.
IHG lists an on-site restaurant, The Great Room, and a happy hour from 5 to 8 p.m. It prints no luggage-storage statement and no room sizes, and says guests must be 18 to check in. There's no complimentary local shuttle, and parking is S$27 (about US$20) a day with 39 spaces.
Book it if a free breakfast and a train you can read the map for matter more than a grand lobby, and call about storing your bags between check-out and boarding.
Book it if
- You want a free breakfast, per IHG, and a pool on the roof.

- You want a plain, big hotel with 442 rooms.
Look elsewhere if
- You need a restaurant or bar in the building.
- You're sailing from Marina Bay and want a rail link all the way.
- You need luggage storage confirmed.
