The Russell is first because its own page names the cruise terminal, and no other hotel of our eighteen does. The page puts the Overseas Passenger Cruise Terminal and the Circular Quay stations five minutes away on foot, and it says private shuttles run on request.
On our road routing the terminal is about 0.9 road miles (1.4 km) off, 3 minutes with no traffic, and White Bay is 3.1. The shuttle comes with no price, booking rule or word on whether it serves the terminal, so we score the walk and leave the shuttle unscored. Driving is a separate question: the hotel prints a discounted A$41 (about US$30) for 24 hours at Wilson's car park at 155 George Street, validated at reception.
The home page names the Fortune of War Bar, the Fortune of War Bistro 1828 and an alfresco dining area, and says a continental breakfast is included in the price. It doesn't say for which rooms — so we score breakfast zero. We found no pool, no room count and no standard check-in time.
I'd book it if your ship berths at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. If it's at White Bay, the road is the long way round — read your cruise documents first.
Book it if
- Your ship berths at the Overseas Passenger Terminal and you want to walk, as the hotel's own page says you can.
- A bar and a bistro on site suit your evening.
- You'll ask about the private shuttle before you rely on it.
Look elsewhere if
- Your ship is at White Bay, 3.1 road miles away.
- You can't do without a pool.
- You need to know which rooms get the continental breakfast.
A five-minute walk, a bistro named 1828 and an A$41 car park
From the desk to the quay, drawn from the hotel's pages and our routing.
The bar, the bistro and the alfresco area give you somewhere to eat on site; the pages show neither a pool nor a room count.
Settle the night before if it's the walk or a call about the shuttle; the hotel's own figure is five minutes on foot to the terminal.
Ask if your rate carries the continental breakfast; the home page says it's in the price and stops there.
The five-minute walk is the hotel's own figure, and our 0.9 road miles measures the road a car takes. Your terminal check-in window is on your cruise documents; leave 30 minutes before it.

George Street to the Overseas Passenger Terminal, on foot or by cab
Airport to George Street is about 8.5 road miles by our routing; the Overseas Passenger Terminal is about 0.9, a 3-minute run on clear roads. Any ride not named below is yours to book.
The page says the airport line, T8, runs direct to Circular Quay, and that taxis and ride-hailing are available. No airport transfer is listed.
The hotel's page gives a five-minute walk to the cruise terminal, and it also offers private shuttles on request; the shuttle detail is thin, so the walk is what we score.
The road figures are ours: 3.1 road miles to White Bay Cruise Terminal.
From SYD without a hotel shuttle
Sydney Airport is about 8.5 road miles from George Street by our routing, roughly 17 minutes on clear roads. The fixed A$60 (about US$40) taxi fare Transport NSW prints is for the CBD, and a terminal may sit outside it. The airport page sets the fare beside the train.
The page puts Circular Quay's train, ferry, light rail and bus stops five minutes away, and the Port Authority names Circular Quay as the train stop for the terminal. T8 runs direct to Circular Quay, the hotel adds.
If you drive, see the parking section for the Wilson's rate.
The hotel says five minutes on foot; the shuttle is on request and isn't scored.
Our routing measures the road a car takes, so treat it as a floor for the cab.
Flying in the morning you sail? Leave The Russell out of it and let the airport page run the landing check.

Guest parking
Guest parking pricedThe hotel prints a discounted rate at Wilson's, 155 George Street: A$41 for 24 hours, with a ticket validated at reception. The Port Authority lists the same car park among those near the terminal.

No parking at the terminal on cruise daysThat rate covers your night, not a cruise: the Port Authority says no parking is available at the Overseas Passenger Terminal while a cruise is in port, and White Bay's car park is drop-off only, for 15 minutes at most.
Terminal car parks are compared on the cruise-parking page, and the stations we score show the rail side.
