The Gritti Palace is the Grand Canal classic, and the most transparent of the grand hotels. Two Michelin Keys and a Forbes Four-Star, with Marriott printing a Marco Polo transfer at €380 (about US$425) one way and the tourist tax at €5.00 (about US$6) a person a night.
Our walking route to Marittima is about 1.5 miles, roughly 33 minutes over the bridges, which makes it a boat with luggage, not a stroll.
The Gritti Terrace opens April to October and there's a Sisley spa. Breakfast terms aren't on the page we read; parking is valet to Garage San Marco at €75 (about US$85) a day.
Book it if you want the classic Venice night with numbers you can plan around, and ask the concierge to book the boat to the ship.
Book it if
- You want the Grand Canal at the door
- You like knowing the transfer price before you land
- You collect Marriott points
Look elsewhere if
- You want to walk to the ship with bags.
- You won't pay €75 a day to park.
- Your dog is over 6 kg.
