Hotel Plaza
The only hotel we checked that publishes a cruise transfer: from €40, facing Mestre station, which it puts 10 minutes from Marittima and 20 from Fusina.
Pre-Cruise Hotels · Venice
Twenty hotels for a Venice cruise that checks in at Marittima or sails from Fusina, from Piazzale Roma to Mestre and the airport, scored on what gets you to the ship, not on reviews. Sailing from Ravenna or Trieste instead? Read the airport page first.
Three taps and we’ll show your best three hotels.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. Nobody pays to be here.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, beach, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
Hotel Plaza wins on the one thing nobody else publishes: a transfer to the port, from €40 (about US$45). Elizabeth Unique is second on the only free breakfast in our twenty. Antony Hotel is third because it says it will keep your car past your stay, for a supplement it doesn't price.
Narrow the twenty by what your night needs, then tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Read the terminal first. These are ranked for a sailing that checks in at Venezia Marittima, like MSC’s, or leaves from Fusina — a lagoon sailing, not a Ravenna one. Chioggia is measured on each page. If your line says Ravenna or Trieste, none of these is close, and the airport page says why.
Add your sail date and the links open on the night before.

All 20 hotels
The only hotel we checked that publishes a cruise transfer: from €40, facing Mestre station, which it puts 10 minutes from Marittima and 20 from Fusina.
The one hotel in our twenty that lists a free breakfast: a Cannaregio palazzo with Da GrandMa downstairs, about 1.2 miles on foot from Marittima.
Free parking for your stay, a supplement it doesn't price to leave the car longer, and an €8 airport shuttle, on the Via Orlanda in Campalto.
A 79-room Marriott a few minutes from Piazzale Roma, which lists Marittima at 10 minutes, with elevators and roll-in showers.
On Piazzale Roma itself, where the People Mover leaves for Marittima, with a bar on the Grand Canal and 39 rooms.
A 3-star-superior Best Western steps from Piazzale Roma that prints its tourist tax, €3.50 (about US$4) a person a night, and holds bags.
A 4-star MGallery on the Papadopoli gardens, 200 m from Piazzale Roma, with a restaurant and air conditioning; Accor puts the port 1.4 km away.
A 4-star on the Lista di Spagna, 0.3 km from Santa Lucia, with a restaurant and a lift, about 1.0 miles on foot from Marittima.
A 3-star by Marco Polo with a 'Park, Sleep And Fly' package and an €8 breakfast, about 8.1 road miles from Marittima.
€10 (about US$11) covered parking, an outdoor pool and a paid airport shuttle on the Via Orlanda, about 4.5 road miles from Marittima.

A 100-room NH by Santa Lucia station that lists the passenger terminal at 0.86 km, with air conditioning and free Wi-Fi.
Long-term parking on Marriott's list and €20 (about US$20) a day for guests, 0.9 km from Marco Polo, about 8.0 road miles from Marittima.
Free garage parking, 22 kW EV charging and a breakfast from 5:30 am in Marcon, about 11.4 road miles from Marittima.
Free parking with EV charging and a shuttle on call to Venice, in Marghera, about 6.2 road miles from Fusina.
A 127-room 4-star opposite Mestre station with Da Tura's Venetian menu and free EV charging, about 5.8 road miles from Marittima.
The big Hilton on Giudecca, with a seasonal rooftop pool and five places to eat and drink, across the canal from Marittima — by boat.
An early breakfast from 5 am and connecting rooms, 100 m from Mestre station, about 5.7 road miles from Marittima.
A 45-room 4-star on the Riva degli Schiavoni with its own restaurant and bar — the farthest walk from the ship in our twenty.
A 168-key Four Points in north Mestre with €15 (about US$17) underground parking and a 9th-floor spa, about 8.9 road miles from Marittima.
No hotel on the list has all of those. Try dropping one filter.
Booking.com lists airport taxis you can book ahead. Check the pickup point, the price and the cancellation terms before you book.

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.
Marco Polo · about 9 miles (14.5 km) to Marittima, our routing; fixed taxi €45 (about US$50) to the cruise terminal
The airport publishes the Radiotaxi fixed fares: €45 to the cruise ship terminal, €40 to Piazzale Roma and €35 to central Mestre. It doesn't say which cruise terminal the €45 covers, so name yours when you get in. Radiotaxi takes cards.
ACTV's Aerobus runs from the airport to Piazzale Roma from €10 one way, per Venezia Unica. The People Mover then runs Piazzale Roma to Marittima for €1.50, 7:10 AM to 10:50 PM daily from April to October, about every 10 minutes. ATVO's express bus also does the airport to Piazzale Roma in about 20 minutes, with bags carried free.
Alilaguna's boats run from the airport into Venice at €18 one way, one heavy bag and one hand bag included, €4 (about US$4) an extra bag. The Linea Blu stops at Tronchetto and the Ferrovia, not at Marittima, so it suits a hotel in the centre better than the ship.
MSC sells a transfer through its call centre or your agent and keeps a booth in VCE arrivals; Fly&Cruise fares include it. Princess has a representative meet you after baggage claim. Celebrity's City Stays include private transport between airport, hotel and ship. None prints a per-person price.
ATVO's Treviso Airport Bus Express reaches Mestre in about 30 minutes and Venice in about 40, timed to the flights. Holland America says it doesn't run transfers from Treviso.
Rental desks are on level 3 of the P1 car park at Marco Polo. A car only makes sense for a mainland hotel or a Fusina, Chioggia, Trieste or Ravenna sailing; there are no roads into Venice past Piazzale Roma.
Driving? The column to watch is “While you sail”. Compare hotel parking with the options on Venice cruise parking, or price it out in the parking math below.

These twenty are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room. Venice’s grand hotels sit on the Grand Canal and the lagoon — a boat ride from Marittima, not a walk. Aman and the Cipriani hold three Michelin Keys, though the Cipriani is closed until June 2027; the Gritti has two plus a Forbes Four-Star, and the Danieli reopened in July 2026 as a Four Seasons.
Every distance here ends at Venezia Marittima, where MSC checks you in and takes your bags — Esri’s point for the Stazione Marittima, not a gate. Inside the old city there are no roads past Piazzale Roma, so those hotels are measured on foot by our routing — walking miles, not driving ones. The Giudecca hotel gets a straight line, because you’ll cross by boat. Mainland hotels are road miles with no traffic.
Four of the twenty are around Piazzale Roma, three in Cannaregio by the station, seven in Mestre, Marghera and Campalto, two on the lagoon side by boat and four out toward the airport. Sailing from Fusina? Mercure Marghera is closest at about 6.2 road miles, then the three hotels by Mestre station at about 6.6.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things make a Venice night before easy or hard — and the terminal comes before all of them. We score each one only from what the hotel publishes on its own site or its brand’s.
If a hotel doesn’t say it, it scores zero there. Travel sites and booking networks don’t count — only the hotel’s own pages or its brand’s. A distance to “the port” or “the harbour” isn’t a walk to the cruise terminal, and none of the twenty prints half a mile or less.
By band, from Marittima: Piazzale Roma 30; Cannaregio 25; Mestre, Marghera and Campalto 20; the lagoon side by boat 15; north Mestre and the airport 10.
A transfer the hotel runs or arranges, with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. A walk the hotel prints at half a mile or less 15. A named partner 10. Only Hotel Plaza scores here.
A published rate to leave the car 20. Offered, price unpublished 14 — four hotels, each sold to flyers, so ask whether it covers a cruise.
A breakfast the hotel or its brand says is included scores 10. Only one of the twenty says so.
Pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3. No beach points here.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the shorter distance to Marittima by our routing, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. Four Piazzale Roma hotels tie on 33 and split on our walking distance to Marittima. On 26, Hilton Garden Inn and Novotel tie, and the shorter drive puts HGI San Giuliano first. On 24, the shorter drive puts Courtyard Airport ahead of Antony Palace; on 23, Mercure Marghera's on-site parking puts it ahead of BW Plus Bologna.
What’s left out is deliberate. Room rates change daily, so they aren’t scored — and neither are review scores. Italy’s star categories are on each page where the hotel prints one; they don’t score.
Venice adds a tourist tax of €1 to €5 (about US$1–6) a person a night, collected by the hotel — first five nights only, under-10s exempt, ages 10 to 16 at half. Few hotels print their figure — add it before you compare rates.
No hotel in our twenty publishes a price to leave the car while you sail. Here’s what’s out there, from the least certain to the most.
At the hotels. Courtyard Venice Airport lists long-term parking; the Antony Hotel charges a supplement to park before or after your stay; Antony Palace and the Titian Inn sell ‘Park, Sleep & Fly’ packages. None prints a price — all four are built for flyers, not cruisers. Ask whether the deal covers a cruise week and how you’d reach the ship.
Mestre’s hotels charge by the night — €10 a day at Hilton Garden Inn, €14 at Star Parking behind Hotel Plaza, €15 in the Four Points garage and €20 at Tritone’s agreed lot. Mercure Marghera’s parking is free for guests, though nothing says it covers a cruise.
At the port. VTP, the terminal operator, runs parking for cruise passengers inside the port at Marittima. You book and prepay online, and the form works out the fare from your ship and dates. We couldn’t confirm a price, so get yours there. It covers Marittima only; a Fusina, Chioggia, Trieste or Ravenna sailing has its own arrangements, so check your line’s departure details.
The published rate. The city’s Autorimessa Comunale at Piazzale Roma charges €35 per 24 hours for cars up to 2.20 m, per AVM. It has 1,906 spaces and never closes — one People Mover stop from Marittima. That’s the figure in the calculator — a city garage, not a cruise deal.
| AVM garage at Piazzale Roma, €35 per 24 hours per AVM | — |
AVM charges per 24 hours and prints no weekly cruise rate, so our total counts each cruise night plus one day at €35. Book online through Venezia Unica by midnight the day before, per AVM.
Every option side by side: Venice cruise parking, compared.
We checked 23 hotels — twenty were open and published enough to score. Seven grand hotels, from the Aman to the Gritti, are on the splurge list with one of these twenty, Hilton Molino Stucky.
| Hotel | Why it isn’t ranked |
|---|---|
| Carlton on the Grand Canal | Only booking-network pages; no official site we could confirm, so no parking, breakfast or check-in facts to score. |
| Avani Rio Novo Venice Hotel | Known only from a line on another NH hotel's page; its own page wasn't read. |
| NH Venezia Laguna Palace, Mestre | No longer bookable on NH's site, and we couldn't confirm who runs it now. |
| Ca' Doge and other Piazzale Roma guesthouses | Named only by a travel site, Europe for Visitors; nothing of their own read. |
| Hotel Danieli | Reopened July 30, 2026 as Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel — on the splurge list under its new name. |
Marco Polo is the airport for Venice — about 9 miles (14.5 km) from Marittima by our routing. Its fixed taxi fares are €45 to the cruise ship terminal, €40 to Piazzale Roma and €35 to Mestre. Treviso is farther — ATVO’s bus reaches Venice in about 40 minutes.
Three hotels run their own Marco Polo shuttles, each for a fee. Hotel Plaza arranges transfers from €45. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes; the airport page has the boats, the buses and which port your “Venice” cruise really uses.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.
Booking.com links are affiliate links: Seabound Journeys may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change what we recommend. Affiliate disclosure.
On our scoring it's Hotel Plaza, facing Mestre station, because it's the only hotel we checked that publishes a transfer to the port: "from € 40". It puts Marittima 10 minutes away and Fusina 20; our routing gives about 5.8 and 6.6 road miles. Elizabeth Unique, with the only free breakfast in our twenty, is second.
"Venice" means five places now. MSC checks you in at Venezia Marittima, by Piazzale Roma, then ferries you to the ship at Marghera, per MSC. Viking sails mostly from Chioggia, and Regent and Seabourn list Fusina. Celebrity and Royal Caribbean sail from Ravenna, and Holland America, Norwegian and Princess from Trieste. Your documents name yours.
No. Celebrity sails "from Venice" out of Ravenna, about 2 hours 30 minutes south by its own count, and Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas sails from there in summer 2027. Holland America, Norwegian and Princess sail from Trieste — about 150 km from Marco Polo, per Holland America. Stay near that port, not in Venice — the airport page has the distances.
From Piazzale Roma, yes — our walking routes to Marittima run about 0.6 to 0.7 miles, and the People Mover does it in one stop for €1.50. From Cannaregio it's about a mile with bridges. No hotel prints a walk of half a mile or less, so none scores a walk — the People Mover is the easy way, not the bridges.
Not at a published price. Four of the twenty offer to keep a car past your stay, all near the airport or the Via Orlanda — Antony Hotel, Titian Inn, Courtyard Airport and Antony Palace. None prints the rate. The certain option is the city garage at Piazzale Roma, €35 per 24 hours — a published rate, not a package.
Not in October 2026: the 2026 fee applied 8:30 am to 4 pm on set days from April 3 to July 26 only. Overnight guests in hotels in the Venice municipality are exempt but still need the QR-code exemption voucher, per the city. The 2027 rules aren't published yet.
Hilton Garden Inn San Giuliano, Antony Hotel and Antony Palace run their own Marco Polo shuttles, but none is free. The Antony Hotel charges €8 a trip — the other two don't print a price. Hotel Plaza arranges transfers from €45.
Between €1 and €5 a person a night, for the first five nights only, per the city. Under-10s are exempt and ages 10 to 16 pay half. It depends on the season, the hotel type and the zone. Printed examples: €5.00 (about US$6) at the Gritti, €3.50 at Hotel Olimpia, €2.50 (about US$3) at the Titian Inn.
Rates move every day and spike in season. Any number we printed would be wrong by the time you read it. We rank on what holds still: distance, the ride, parking, breakfast and the evening.
