Ravenna (Porto Corsini) in brief
Ravenna sits on Italy’s northern Adriatic coast, and it holds a set of early Christian and Byzantine mosaics that are UNESCO-listed.
The ship doesn’t berth there. It berths at Porto Corsini, where the Canale Candiano meets the sea.
Read your ticket twice.
Norwegian’s own excursion page lists the port as ‘Venice (Ravenna)’, and our map card notes Royal Caribbean and Celebrity use ‘Ravenna (Venice)’. Venice is roughly 90 miles from Ravenna on the figure reported for Norwegian’s transfer. Royal Caribbean puts Venice Marco Polo airport at about 167 km (104 miles) by its listed route, about 2 hours 30 minutes by car.
The port authority’s 2026 outlook counted 111 calls at Porto Corsini, 71 of them starting or ending a cruise and 40 in transit. If you’re passing through, expect a short day, about 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on one guide’s count. If you’re embarking, the airport is the question, and Bologna is the one Royal Caribbean lists at about 62 miles (100 km).
The terminal is changing.
A new two-deck terminal was expected around the start of the 2026 season, with a 250-meter raised walkway. In August 2026, Norwegian told guests that construction delays had limited how many ships could dock, and Royal Caribbean’s August 10 departure moved to Trieste. Recheck the terminal arrangements with your line before you go.
Getting into town is the weak link.
Guests reported taxi waits of up to two hours on earlier Norwegian sailings. Norwegian added a $23-per-person shuttle to the train station, reported in August 2026, and puts the average taxi fare to the station at about 50 euros per vehicle.
Once you’re at the station, the mosaics are a short walk. A combined ticket, with a timed slot, covers the main churches. Our Ravenna shore excursion guide sorts the tours from the walk. Read it before you commit.
From the ship to the mosaics
Ships berth at Porto Corsini, outside the city. The new terminal is planned with a 250-meter raised walkway, but whether it is in use on your date is worth confirming.
Too far to walk. Cruise Mummy gives about 8 miles, and Royal Caribbean’s blog puts the ride at about 20 minutes.
Norwegian charged $23 per person in August 2026. Royal Caribbean’s 2023 blog listed $10, and another guide $15, so treat prices as a range and ask on board.
A forum reply puts the ride at about 20 minutes. It is secondary, so check the timetable before you rely on it.
Norwegian’s average is about 50 euros per vehicle, while a 2023 Royal Caribbean blog listed about 25 euros from the station, so fares have likely moved. Waits ran up to two hours for some guests, so don’t make a taxi your only plan.
CruiseGear puts the station about 7 minutes on foot from the center, and the main mosaic sites sit in the old town.
What's nearby, broadly
Once you reach the center, the mosaic sites and Piazza del Popolo are a walk apart.
Sant’Apollinare in Classe sits outside the old town. Bologna, San Marino and Venice are day trips, not add-ons, and Venice is the long one.
Commonly reached from
On Adriatic and Eastern Mediterranean itineraries, Ravenna can sit alongside stops such as Dubrovnik, Kotor and Corfu, depending on the line. It also starts and ends sailings, and our Ravenna embarkation guide covers the airport, hotels and parking side. Cruise Critic lists Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Celebrity ships on Ravenna sailings, and Oceania lists it as a call. If you’re weighing a third-party booking, our Shore Excursions Group vs. Viator comparison sorts out which suits which day. A long drive from an outlying pier is a good reason to read it.

Euros, with cards widely taken.
Italy uses the euro. One port guide says cards are widely accepted, but carry a little cash for small cafes and the odd taxi.
Taxis: ask about a fixed rate.
A forum reply says to ask whether the driver has a fixed rate, since otherwise the meter applies, and says drivers must accept cards, so ask before you get in. CruiseGear says the city has fewer than 20 taxis, and they’re generally unavailable on cruise days unless a hotel arranges one.
Shuttles: book them on board.
Royal Caribbean’s blog says its station shuttle was booked on board in 2023. Norwegian sells its own transfer on board. Check what your line offers, and when booking closes.
Allow for the return.
Plan to be back at the station well ahead of the last shuttle. A late taxi queue is what hurts.
Parking and airports.
Royal Caribbean says there is no long-term parking at the port. Its page lists Bologna airport at about 62 miles (100 km) and about 1 hour 30 minutes by road, and Venice Marco Polo at about 104 miles (167 km) and about 2 hours 30 minutes. See our Ravenna parking guide and airport guide.
The US advisory is Level 2 — increased caution.
The State Department’s Italy advisory is a national one, not specific to Ravenna, and it is Level 2 for terrorism. The page lists tourist spots, transportation centers, religious sites and airports among common targets. It sets no separate regional levels, and none of its local notes names Ravenna. It was issued May 23, 2025 and was still current when we checked on October 29, 2026.
Italy is in the Schengen Area, and the State Department says ordinary US passport holders can stay up to 90 days without a visa, with a passport valid at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area. The EU’s Entry/Exit System has been fully operational at Schengen external borders since April 10, 2026. ETIAS is not in operation, and the EU has announced no start date; it says it will announce one several months before launch (SchengenVisaInfo, October 19, 2026). Check travel-europe.europa.eu before you fly.

Ravenna (Porto Corsini) FAQ
How far is the Ravenna cruise port from town?
Ships berth at Porto Corsini, about 8 miles (13 km) from Ravenna’s train station by Cruise Mummy’s figure. It is too far to walk, so you need a shuttle, bus or taxi.
Is there a free shuttle in Ravenna?
We found no source for a free one. Norwegian charged $23 per person in August 2026, and Royal Caribbean’s 2023 blog listed $10. Ask your line.
How much is a taxi from the Ravenna cruise port?
Norwegian puts the average fare to the train station at about 50 euros per vehicle; a 2023 Royal Caribbean blog listed about 25 euros. Guests reported waits of up to two hours on earlier sailings.
Is Ravenna really near Venice?
No. The reported distance is about 90 miles, and Royal Caribbean lists Venice Marco Polo airport at about 2 hours 30 minutes by road. Treat the Venice label on your ticket as a booking name, not a distance.
Which airport is best for a Ravenna cruise?
Royal Caribbean lists Bologna at about 62 miles (100 km) and about 1 hour 30 minutes by road, and Venice at about 104 miles (167 km) and about 2 hours 30 minutes. Bologna is the shorter ride.

Royal Caribbean says there is no long-term parking at the port. Check with your line for what is available on your date.
Are the Ravenna mosaics worth the trip from the ship?
For many visitors, yes. The UNESCO mosaics are the reason to come, and a combined ticket with a timed slot is the way to see them. The ride in and out is the cost.
Is Ravenna safe for cruise passengers?
The State Department rates Italy Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, for terrorism. That is a national level, and its regional notes do not name Ravenna.
