The quay at the old town's edge
Before you board inRegensburg
The ships tie up on the Donaulände 'at the edge of the historic old town' — bayernhafen's phrase — and an hourly airport express runs straight in from Munich. Of the Danube's German embarkation cities, this is the one where the logistics get out of the way.
- 8regular cruise berths on the Donaulände
- 75 minÜFEX / RE 22, Munich Airport to Regensburg Hbf, hourly
- 9:00 pmUniworld all-aboard at berth D7 (every 2026 departure)
- 1146year construction of the Stone Bridge began
In short
The short version
The cruise quay is one stretch of the Donaulände at Danube km 2379, with eight regular berths, mandatory shore power and coach pick-up at the quay. Uniworld gives its berth as 'Donaulände-Kreuzfahrt-Liegeplatz (D7), Donaulände 21' for every 2026 departure.
Fly into Munich. The RE 22 / ÜFEX airport express leaves the station between Terminals 1 and 2 every hour and reaches Regensburg Hbf in about 75 minutes. It takes the Deutschlandticket.
Three lines start here. Viking's Romantic Danube and Uniworld's Delightful Danube both run between Budapest and Regensburg; Emerald's Danube Delights is listed Budapest to Munich, with the cruise itself ending here.
One night does it. The Stone Bridge, the cathedral, the Wurstkuchl and the 45-minute Strudel boat loop sit within a few hundred metres of each other. On Sundays the Domspatzen sing in St. Peter's.
Re-check your berth 24 hours out, as Uniworld asks — if the Donaulände is full, ships go to the commercial harbour downstream.
The berths
Where the ship will be
One quay in the city and an overflow in the harbour. The quay is where you'll almost certainly be; nobody publishes how often the overflow is used.
Donaulände cruise berths (Danube km 2379) — Uniworld: 'Donaulände-Kreuzfahrt-Liegeplatz (D7), Donaulände 21, 93055 Regensburg'
On the Donaulände 'at the edge of the historic old town', per bayernhafen's August 2025 cruise brochure. It counts eight regular berths with mandatory Power-Lock shore power, direct coach pick-up at the quay and water standpipes from das Stadtwerk Regensburg (0941 601-3070). Uniworld says the ship docks close to the old town.
Uniworld (all 2026 Regensburg departures at D7)
SourceOverflow: two short-term berths at bayernhafen Regensburg (Danube km 2378–2372)
In the commercial harbour downstream, used only when the city berths are full. Permission is granted shortly before arrival through the harbour master (0941 79597-26 or -27).
SourceBecause the quay is a single stretch with eight berths, the location is predictable even where the berth number isn't. Uniworld fixes D7 at Donaulände 21 with a 9:00 pm all-aboard and asks guests to re-check 24 hours out. Nobody says whether ships raft alongside each other here.

Almost all of it is within sight of the Stone Bridge. The one thing that needs a ticket in advance is the Reichstag museum, and that ticket is sold at the tourist office, not online.

Where to stay
Where to sleep
Six hotels in our Regensburg pre-cruise hotels guide, all within the old town or just across the bridge from it. Bischofshof am Dom is the address beside the cathedral; SORAT Insel-Hotel is the one with the Danube terrace and a flat walk to the quay.
Domviertel (the cathedral quarter)
The densest cluster of sights and both cathedral hotels. Bischofshof am Dom is 'just a few meters from St. Peter's Cathedral' with rooms looking at the Stone Bridge; Kaiserhof am Dom sits 'directly opposite the mighty twin towers'.
Oberer Wöhrd island and Stadtamhof, across the Stone Bridge
Quiet and on the water. SORAT Insel-Hotel sits on the Danube island 'directly at the stone bridge' — 100 m to the bridge, 500 m to the old town — with a Danube terrace. Hotel Orphée's Andreasstadel house is in Stadtamhof.
Maximilianstraße and the station quarter
For an early ÜFEX to Munich Airport. Eurostars Park Hotel Maximilian, a 19th-century palace hotel, is 250 m from the central station at the start of the old town.

Quick answers
Regensburg river cruise questions
Where do river cruise ships dock in Regensburg?
On the Donaulände at the edge of the historic old town (Danube km 2379), which bayernhafen's 2025 cruise brochure counts as eight regular berths with shore power and direct coach pick-up. Uniworld gives its berth as 'Donaulände-Kreuzfahrt-Liegeplatz (D7), Donaulände 21, 93055 Regensburg' with a 9:00 pm all-aboard. When the city berths are full, ships use two short-term berths in the commercial harbour downstream.
How do I get from Munich Airport to Regensburg?
The RE 22 / ÜFEX airport express leaves the station between Terminals 1 and 2 hourly and reaches Regensburg Hbf in about 75 minutes, with stops including Freising, Moosburg and Neufahrn; it accepts the Deutschlandticket. From the station the Eurostars Park Hotel Maximilian is 250 m. No taxi fare to the quay is published.
Which lines start in Regensburg?
Viking (Romantic Danube, Budapest–Regensburg), Uniworld (Delightful Danube, Budapest–Regensburg) and Emerald, whose Danube Delights is listed Budapest to Munich with the cruise running to Regensburg. Avalon, Riverside, Tauck and Uniworld's Vineyards and Palaces call here mid-cruise.
Is one night enough in Regensburg?
Yes — the Stone Bridge, cathedral, Wurstkuchl and the 45-minute Strudel boat loop all sit within a few hundred metres of each other, and the Domspatzen sing on Sundays. Add a night if you want the Thurn und Taxis palace tour and a Danube Gorge trip to Weltenburg on your own.
Should I stay in the old town or across the bridge?
The cathedral quarter puts Bischofshof and Kaiserhof metres from St. Peter's. Across the Stone Bridge, SORAT Insel-Hotel on the Oberer Wöhrd island is 100 m from the bridge and 500 m from the old town with a Danube terrace, and Orphée's Andreasstadel house is in Stadtamhof. Both sides are a short walk to the Donaulände.
Can I store luggage in Regensburg?
The city doesn't say. Its at-a-glance guide and the boat-trip page don't mention luggage storage; the tourist information is on Rathausplatz (+49 941 507-4410). Hotels in the cathedral quarter are a few minutes from the quay, so a late checkout usually solves it.
