Rhapsody has two very different answers to 'we need more room.' Royal currently publishes an Ultra Spacious Ocean View at 246 square feet for up to six, with a dedicated bunk area. Two Connecting Ocean Views total 302 square feet, but each is capped at two guests. More total space and more usable capacity are not the same thing.
Start with party size. A family of five or six can fit the Ultra Spacious on the current plan; the two-room Connecting Ocean View pair cannot by itself. For a party of four, the comparison changes completely. Occupancy first. Then space. Then fare.
Rhapsody of the Seas is about access to the view
Rhapsody's headline is not 302 beats 246. It is that the right cabin changes with party size. Ultra Spacious sleeps up to six in one room; the connecting pair gives a party of up to four more total published space and two-room separation.

The ship gives you the view before the cabin does
Rhapsody of the Seas separates the public-view decision from the private-view decision. The ship already supplies scenery; your cabin premium buys control over when and how privately you see it.
The budget answer. On Radiance and Brilliance, Royal currently publishes 170 square feet — not automatically smaller than Ocean View.
Often a daylight upgrade rather than a space upgrade. If the footprint is the same, price the window honestly.
This is where the cabin begins to compete with the ship's public viewing spaces. Buy it when private access to scenery matters.

On a scenery-first ship, private scenery has to earn the premium
A balcony changes the experience, but Rhapsody's outside-family inventory makes it work harder for the premium. Compare private outdoor space against 246 square feet in one family cabin or 302 across two connected rooms.

That is the balcony's clearest advantage. Put a price on it instead of assuming the category automatically wins.
Against Ultra Spacious
The 246-square-foot Ultra Spacious sleeps up to six and has dedicated bunks. A balcony cabin needs to solve a different problem to justify more money.

Buy the amount of scenery you actually need
Start by deciding whether you need darkness, daylight, private air, the wake or more rooms. Only then choose the category.
Start with Interior. On several verified sisters, you are not giving up standard floor area versus Ocean View.
Ocean View may solve the problem without changing room size. Price the window.
Move to the ship's standard balcony and use it as the control.
Shop aft/Sunset by exact cabin number. Balcony geometry can vary too much to buy the label blind.
