Your car problem is one morning long
At a Disney Resort hotel with a Disney-parks week ahead, you don’t need a car until sail morning — and then only for about 1 hour 30 minutes of highway. Rent it for that one day from a desk on Disney property, if it will quote the one-way. Return it at a port office whose free shuttle runs you to the terminal, or give the whole job to Disney Cruise Line’s transfer. Off-site, or mixing Disney with Universal and the beach? Then keep a car all week; at a Disney Resort hotel, its parking page now lists overnight self-parking as complimentary.
Keep a car the whole stay if
- You’re off-site, or at the Swan, Dolphin or Swan Reserve
- The week mixes Disney with Universal, the outlets or the beach
- You’re four or more, plus a cruise’s worth of luggage
Wait for sail morning if
- You’re at a Disney Resort hotel and the parks are the plan
- Parking at a different park each day sounds like a chore
- Your resort’s buses, boats, monorail or Skyliner already reach the parks
Booking.com lists airport taxis you can book ahead. Check the pickup point, the price and the cancellation terms before you book.

Free overnight parking, and the page that doesn’t mention cruises
| What Disney says | Source | |
|---|---|---|
| Getting around | Resort guests ride free Disney buses, plus boats, the monorail or the Skyliner at some resorts. Inside the resort, that’s your transport sorted. | Disney |
| Parking at your resort | Overnight self-parking is complimentary for Disney Resort hotel guests, and standard theme park parking is included for them. The per-night fees by resort tier no longer appear on the page. | Disney |
| Valet | Valet at Deluxe resorts and Coronado Springs: $42 a night plus tax. | Disney |
| Swan, Dolphin, Swan Reserve | Swan, Dolphin and Swan Reserve (not Disney-operated): self-parking $40 a day plus tax. | Disney |
| Day visitors | $35 a day standard theme park parking for day visitors ($50–$60 preferred). | Disney |
Disney’s parking and resort-transportation pages, read Sept 27, 2026; the parking page says nothing about leaving a car at a resort while you cruise. Checked Sept 27, 2026
That free overnight parking is the change to notice: a car sitting at your resort all week now costs rental days, not rental days plus a nightly fee.
It still sits, though — Disney’s buses do the park runs whether you have a car or not.
We’d ask the front desk before leaving a car there while you sail — Disney’s page is silent on it either way.
Resort by resort, here’s how the free transport connects: Walt Disney World resort transportation.
Where can you rent a car without leaving Disney?
| Desk | Where and when | Getting there | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enterprise, Alamo, National | Walt Disney World Car Care Center, 1000 Car Care Dr, near Magic Kingdom. 7 AM–6 PM daily. (407) 824-3470 | A complimentary shuttle picks up at resort lobbies and the parks. Disney says book 2 hours ahead and runs 7–7; Enterprise says 1 hour and 7–6. | Disney |
| Avis | Avis in the Hilton Lake Buena Vista, 1751 Hotel Plaza Blvd, 7 AM–7 PM daily. | In the Disney Springs resort area | Avis |
| Budget | Budget in the DoubleTree, 2305 Hotel Plaza Blvd: Sun 8–noon, Mon–Fri 8–6, Sat 8–4. | In the Disney Springs resort area | Budget |
We found nothing on the three pages about a one-way to Cape Canaveral, so only a quote will tell you — and Avis, on its own one-way page, says most locations don’t charge a one-way fee. Checked Sept 27, 2026
Two sources disagree about the Car Care Center’s free lobby shuttle. Disney says book it 2 hours ahead and Enterprise says 1 — go by Disney’s number and you’re covered either way.
Check Disney Cruise Line’s hotel rule before you count on its bus
Disney Cruise Line sells its own ground transfers between Walt Disney World and the port, as an extra fee on the booking.
The condition is in its FAQ, and it’s specific: “One-way Resort-to-port transfers are available only if you have a confirmed hotel reservation for the night before your cruise.”
No hotel night on the books, no one-way transfer, by that wording.
We couldn’t read the per-person price, because Disney’s ground-transportation page wouldn’t load for us. Look for it in your booking, or call (407) 939-5277 — the number Disney Cruise Line gives for pre- and post-cruise hotel stays.
Enterprise keeps a Disney-cruise page too, and it warns that its Port Canaveral office’s hours vary with ship schedules. Call before you lean on that one.
3 ways to the ship for two adults and two kids
| Plan | What it costs | What’s in it |
|---|---|---|
| Mears Connect in, Disney transport all week, then DCL’s transfer | $64 + DCL’s transfer fee | Mears charges $17.60 an adult and $14.30 a child 3–9, one way. DCL’s price wasn’t readable, so check your booking. |
| Mears Connect in, then one rental day on sail morning to an office by the port | $64 + about $87 | A Disney-area desk, one day, a $60 base we assumed, I-4 to the port. Add any one-way charge the quote shows. |
| A car from MCO for all three nights, one-way to the port | about $349 | Four days at the same assumed $60 base, MCO charges in, resort parking free. Tolls between MCO and Disney aren’t counted. |
Our arithmetic, not quotes: MCO charges mean a reported $9-a-day facility charge (not confirmed on an airport page) plus a 10% concession and company fee we assumed. The rest is our Port Canaveral method (Florida surcharge, tax, the Enterprise-group toll program, fuel at 30 mpg and AAA’s Sept 27, 2026 average), and the Mears prices are mearsconnect.com’s, read Sept 27, 2026. Illustrative
The middle row is the easy one to skip past, and on our numbers it costs far less than the week-long car: one day of car, not four, with no airport charges on it.
Everything before sail morning, Disney’s transport has already covered at no charge.
Sail-morning math for your own group
The rental, line by line
These are our assumptions, not a quote, so type the rate you’re given. Tolls start on the I-4 route ($4.24 transponder / $6.54 plate); the S.R. 417 route runs $5.44–$6.30 / $10.88–$12.04. Fuel is 62 miles of driving, at 30 mpg (assumed) and the Florida average AAA posted on Sept 27, 2026. Pick up at a Disney-area desk and the tax is Orange County’s 6.5%, with no airport charges added.
When the cruise comes before the parks
Coming off the ship with Disney still ahead? Collect the car at the port, where Avis’s page promises a shuttle at the pier and Budget’s free one runs in both directions, then drive it to your resort — overnight self-parking is included for resort guests. How that pier pickup works.
Carnival guests flying out the same evening have a middle option. Its six-hour post-cruise tour stops at Disney Springs on the way to MCO — from $79.99 a person, for flights after 5 PM.
Lake Buena Vista to Cape Canaveral, one day
Search a Lake Buena Vista pickup with Cape Canaveral as the drop-off — one day, your sail date.
If no Disney-area desk offers that one-way, price the MCO-to-port version too; Budget’s port office page describes exactly that trip.
- Several companies in one search
- Drop charges already in the price
- Cancel at no cost up to 48 hrs out
- Renter ratings for each supplier
Planning park days too? Tickets and things to do around Orlando are on Booking.com. Check each listing’s date rules and what’s included before you book.

Disney World to the ship, answered
How far is Disney World from Port Canaveral?
About 1 hour 30 minutes, by Disney Cruise Line’s own figure. Our route estimate adds the mileage: 62 to 69 miles, depending on where in the resort you start and whether you take I-4 or S.R. 417 before the Beachline.
Do I need a rental car at Disney World before my cruise?
Not for the parks, if you’re at a Disney Resort hotel — Disney’s buses, boats, monorail and Skyliner handle those. The only leg left is the port, and Disney Cruise Line’s transfer, a one-day rental or a private car each covers it.
Does Disney charge for parking at its resorts?
Its parking page now lists overnight self-parking as complimentary for Disney Resort hotel guests, with standard theme park parking included. Valet at the Deluxe resorts and Coronado Springs is $42 a night plus tax.
Can I rent a car at Walt Disney World?
You can. Enterprise, Alamo and National share a desk at the Walt Disney World Car Care Center near Magic Kingdom, 7 AM to 6 PM, and a complimentary shuttle collects you from resort lobbies. Avis has a desk in the Hilton Lake Buena Vista, and Budget one in the DoubleTree on Hotel Plaza Blvd.
Does Disney Cruise Line offer transfers from Disney World hotels?
It does, for an extra fee. Its FAQ limits one-way resort-to-port transfers to guests with a confirmed hotel reservation for the night before the cruise.
