On our list, the hotel vans to the ship all leave from Cape Canaveral
Port Canaveral is our home port, and the first thing we’d ask about a Cocoa Beach night is which side of that line the hotel sits on.
| Hotel | Town | Getting to the ship | What the hotel says |
|---|---|---|---|
| TownePlace Suites | Cape Canaveral | Own port shuttle | Hotel cruise shuttle at $12 a person each way. Reservations are taken only at the front desk, the night before you sail. |
| SpringHill Suites | Cape Canaveral | Own port shuttle | Hotel cruise shuttle at $10.80 a person each way, reserved at the front desk the night before on a first-come basis. |
| Country Inn & Suites | Cape Canaveral | Own port shuttle | Hotel cruise shuttle at $9 plus tax a person each way, and you call ahead to schedule it. The listing says 14 days before you sail in one place and a week in another. Cruise parking and cruise packages include the round trip for two. |
| Radisson Resort at the Port | Cape Canaveral | Own port shuttle | Hotel cruise shuttle at $10 a person each way, booked at the front desk. Extended cruise parking includes the shuttle for up to four people. (That’s per its home page; its transportation page says two. Ask.) |
| Residence Inn | Cape Canaveral | Own port shuttle | Hotel cruise shuttle at 9:30, 11:30 and 12:30, $12 a person each way, round trip available. Bookings are final and non-cancellable. |
| Holiday Inn Express Cocoa | Cocoa | Shuttle in a package | Its Park and Cruise rate includes round-trip transfers for two people to the terminal and back to the hotel afterward. Extra riders: ask the front desk. |
| Courtyard Cocoa Beach | Cocoa Beach | Shuttle in a package | A shuttle comes with the hotel's own Park & Cruise packages. Terms and prices aren't published. |
| Days Inn Cocoa Beach | Cocoa Beach | Shuttle in a package | Cruise packages include round-trip transportation to Port Canaveral. Prices and times aren't published. |
| Homewood Suites | Cape Canaveral | Via Go Port or a partner | No hotel-run cruise shuttle. The hotel points you to Go Port, a separate company that sells packages with airport pickup, the hotel night and the ride to the port. |
| Home2 & Hampton Cruise Port | Cape Canaveral | Via Go Port or a partner | No hotel-run shuttle. The Hampton side promotes Go Port packages, which include the pre-cruise night, the ride to the port and airport pickup from Orlando, Sanford or Melbourne. |
| Hilton Garden Inn Cape Canaveral | Cape Canaveral | Via Go Port or a partner | No hotel-run shuttle. The hotel promotes Go Port for airport and cruise transportation. |
| Holiday Inn Express Cocoa Beach | Cocoa Beach | Via Go Port or a partner | No hotel shuttle. The hotel's page sends you to Go Port for the ride to Port Canaveral. |
| Ocean Landings Resort | Cocoa Beach | Via Go Port or a partner | Through Go Port's Snooze Park Cruise package: you park at Go Port Plaza in Merritt Island and ride Go Port's shuttle to and from the terminal. |
| Four Points Cocoa Beach | Cocoa Beach | Via Go Port or a partner | Rides to Port Canaveral are available through the hotel's transportation partners. Fees may apply, and the port fare isn't stated. |
| Fairfield Titusville | Titusville | Via Go Port or a partner | Marriott says the hotel doesn't run a shuttle. Go Port's Snooze Park Cruise package covers it: you drive to Go Port Plaza in Merritt Island, park, and ride its shuttle. |
| Hyatt Place | Cape Canaveral | No shuttle | No shuttle is mentioned on the hotel's pages. |
| Holiday Inn Club Vacations | Cape Canaveral | No shuttle | IHG says there's no complimentary local shuttle, and no cruise shuttle is mentioned. |
| Hampton Inn Cocoa Beach | Cocoa Beach | No shuttle | No cruise shuttle is mentioned, and Hilton lists airport shuttles as not available. |
| Best Western Cocoa Beach | Cocoa Beach | No shuttle | No shuttle is mentioned on the hotel's page. |
| La Quinta Oceanfront | Cocoa Beach | No shuttle | No shuttle or cruise package is mentioned. |
Pulled from our Port Canaveral night-before rankings, which read each hotel’s own pages on Sept 24–25, 2026; shuttle prices and times move, so confirm with the front desk before you count on one. Checked Sept 24–25, 2026
Read the town column against the shuttle column and the split shows up fast: the five hotels running their own port shuttle are all in Cape Canaveral, a few minutes from the terminals. They charge about $9 to $12 a person each way.
Cocoa Beach runs differently — of the eight hotels there on our list, not one runs its own van outside a package deal.
Two fold a ride into a package, three hand you to Go Port or a partner, and three mention no shuttle at all.
The Cape side isn’t car-free by default either — Hyatt Place and Holiday Inn Club Vacations mention no shuttle on their pages.
Pick from the top of the table, not just the right town.
Parking and breakfast for every one of them are in the full ranking: the night before, top 20 hotels.
Book the bed first, then decide on the car
Choose one of the five Cape hotels with its own shuttle and the rental can stay off the list — MCO to the bed by shared shuttle, the bed to the pier by the hotel’s van. Book Cocoa Beach, or plan a day with the rockets, and a car starts paying its way.
Skip the rental counter if
- Your hotel runs its own van to the port (on our list, that means Cape Canaveral)
- It’s one night and the ship in the morning
- Cocoa Beach Express can take you from MCO to the hotel
A car earns its keep if
- You’ve booked Cocoa Beach itself, where no hotel on our list runs its own shuttle outside a package
- The Space Center is on the plan, about 30 minutes from the port
- You’re four or more, and every shuttle seat is priced per person
From the MCO curb to the gangway, without keys
| Leg | How | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| MCO to your hotel | Cocoa Beach Express, the port’s official ground-transportation concessionaire, runs shared shuttles from MCO to Port Canaveral and to hotels in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach | From $28 a person, its “as low as” price |
| MCO to your hotel, bundled | Go Port’s Fly Snooze Cruise packages wrap the airport pickup, the hotel night and the ride to the ship together at partner hotels | Package prices on Go Port; see each hotel’s page |
| Hotel to the ship | The hotel’s own shuttle, where there is one | About $9 to $12 a person each way |
| Cocoa Beach to the ship | Taxi or rideshare, about 4 miles | Not published; check the app |
Fares as each company published them, read Sept 24–27, 2026. Checked Sept 27, 2026
Both shuttle legs are priced per head, not per car. Two people barely feel it; five pay the airport fare and the hotel van fare five times each.
The calculator further down is where that stops being a guess.
So what does a rental actually get you on this stretch of coast?
| What we found | |
|---|---|
| Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex | About 16 miles and 30 minutes from the port, our route estimate. Parking is $15 a car, per the visitor complex. |
| The beach | Cocoa Beach is about 4 miles from the terminals, our route estimate. The city sets the beach and pier parking rates, and we couldn’t read them; check the signs when you pull in. |
Mostly, it gets you the Space Center — nothing in the no-car column above goes there.
The beach makes a weaker case. You’re sleeping about 4 miles from the terminals anyway, and since we couldn’t read the city’s parking rates, we won’t guess what a car costs to leave by the sand.
3 PM is the hour the drop-off plan hangs on
If you do rent, keep the route simple: pick up at MCO, give the afternoon to the beach or the rockets, and sleep in Cocoa Beach. On sail morning, drive a few miles north to a Cape Canaveral office that runs you to the terminal.
The port itself says the major rental companies shuttle to and from the ship, and leaves the arranging to you. Here’s what each office near it says on its own page.
| Office in Cape Canaveral | Hours to watch | Port shuttle | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Weekends 8 AM–3 PM | Free, both ways, cruise passengers | Its page describes this exact trip, a Budget MCO pickup dropped here before you sail, and puts the van ride to the pier under 10 minutes, typically. |
| Avis | Weekends 8 AM–3 PM | Free, both ways, cruise passengers | One page, two answers on the drop box (“Available” and “NOT Available”). Hand the keys to a person, inside office hours. |
| Enterprise · Alamo · National | Tue and Wed shown closed; otherwise 7 AM–4 PM | Free, cruise passengers, last run 3 PM | Enterprise’s page has it both “4 miles from Port Canaveral” and “located in Terminal B”. Ring ahead and ask which. |
| Hertz | Every day 8 AM–3 PM | None, per Hertz | Fine for driving around the Cape. For the ship, Hertz’s own answer is a taxi. |
Read on each office’s own page, Sept 27, 2026; their hours, day by day. Checked Sept 27, 2026
On Saturdays and Sundays the Budget and Avis counters shut at 3 PM.
The Enterprise group’s page puts its final shuttle at 3 PM.
That’s the argument for the beach night — from Cocoa Beach you’re a few miles out that morning instead of racing the clock from Orlando.
Driving your own car down instead? Several Cape Canaveral hotels sell cruise parking with the shuttle folded in, against the port’s $20 a day plus tax.
To book, go one-way, MCO to Cape Canaveral, two days, and name the drop-off office. If the comparison site doesn’t list the cruise-passenger location, book on the company’s own site — we found no major-brand office in Cocoa Beach itself.

Two rental days, not one, because the car sleeps over
It opens on two travelers and two days, the beach afternoon then sail morning — put your own headcount in first, since the shuttle side is charged per person.
The rental, line by line
Illustrative arithmetic, not a quote. We assumed the $45 base rate; type yours in from the quote. The rental line covers both days and the drop near the port. The shuttle and taxi lines cover only the airport run — add the hotel’s van ($9–$12 a person) to those before you compare. Fuel assumes 30 mpg, and everything else matches our other Port Canaveral pages. MCO’s taxi figure is its approximate fare to Port Canaveral, and it doesn’t say whether that’s per car.
Cocoa Beach and the Cape, asked
Do I need a car in Cocoa Beach before a cruise?
Only if your hotel leaves you without a ride. On our list, the hotels running their own port shuttle are all in Cape Canaveral, at about $9 to $12 a person; most Cocoa Beach hotels don’t run one. There, a car, a transfer package or a taxi fills the gap.
How far is Cocoa Beach from Port Canaveral?
Roughly 4 miles and 10 minutes from central Cocoa Beach to the cruise terminals, by our route estimate. The port publishes no figure, and we couldn’t read the city’s site.
Is there a bus from Cocoa Beach to the cruise port?
Not one we could find. Space Coast Area Transit is $1.50 a ride, yet no route we could confirm reaches the cruise terminals, and the port’s own transportation page names no bus.
Is there a rental car office in Cocoa Beach?
We found none from a major brand. The closest sit a few miles north in Cape Canaveral: Budget, Avis and the shared Enterprise, Alamo and National office each run a free port shuttle for cruise passengers. Hertz is up there too, without one.
How far is Kennedy Space Center from Port Canaveral?
By our route estimate, about 16 miles, or roughly 30 minutes. Parking at the visitor complex is $15 a car.
