The short answer

Fly into Orlando International unless Melbourne has a good flight from your city. MCO flies nonstop to more than 170 destinations and has the most ways to the port. Melbourne is closer, but its airlines mostly connect through Atlanta or Charlotte. Sanford makes sense when Allegiant’s fare wins. It also has the earliest sail-day shuttle cut-off of the three.

Pick MCO if

  • You want a nonstop from almost anywhere
  • You want a shared shuttle or a cruise-line transfer
  • You might land close to noon

Pick Melbourne if

  • Delta, American, Allegiant, Sun Country or TUI flies your route well
  • You want the shortest drive
  • You like a small, one-terminal airport

Pick Sanford if

  • Allegiant flies from your city and the fare wins
  • You’re landing the day before, or early on sail morning

The Ride

What the ride to the ship costs

Pick your airport and how many of you are riding. Shared shuttles charge per person, and a taxi charges per car, so the cheapest answer changes with the size of your group.

One way, before tip and tax, as each company published it on September 24, 2026. Cocoa Beach Express quotes “as low as” and says the final price depends on your itinerary. MCO’s $115 taxi figure is the airport’s own approximate rate. Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line, MSC and Norwegian also sell airport transfers, but didn’t publish a price we could read. Whatever the ride, your cruise line’s check-in window is the real deadline. It’s printed in your boarding documents. A delayed flight eats into it fast, which is why so many cruisers fly in the day before.

Brightline

Is there a train to the port?

Not today. Brightline has a station at MCO, next to Terminal C, but its trains run south to West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura and Miami, not east to the coast.

A Cocoa station is funded, not built. Brightline announced on August 11, 2026 that the Federal Railroad Administration awarded about $57.5 million toward a Cocoa station, which Brightline will operate. It gave no opening date. Local reporting points to a 2030 goal. Until then, it’s the road.

Fly In Early

Flying in the day before

The day-before flight is the one move that takes the sail-day cut-offs off the table. You have two ways to do it.

Stay by the airport and ride over in the morning. The Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport is inside MCO’s main terminal, and Go Port’s shuttle counter is in the same building. Or ride to the coast that evening and wake up about a mile from the ship. We ranked twenty hotels near the port on shuttles, parking, breakfast and distance.

FAQ

Port Canaveral airport FAQ

What is the closest airport to Port Canaveral?

Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB). Port Canaveral puts it about 25 miles and 40 minutes south of the port; Go Port, a shuttle company, measures 27.5 miles and 50 minutes. It's closest, but it has far fewer flights than Orlando International.

Which airport should I fly into for a Port Canaveral cruise?

For most people, Orlando International (MCO). It flies nonstop to more than 170 destinations, and it has the most ways to reach the port: shared shuttles, cruise-line transfers, taxis, rideshare and rental cars. Melbourne is worth it when it has a good flight from your city. Sanford mostly means Allegiant.

How far is Orlando airport from Port Canaveral?

About 42 to 46 miles, and roughly 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. The route is S.R. 528 East, the Beachline, which is a toll road. Port Canaveral says about 45 minutes; Disney Cruise Line says about an hour.

How much is a shuttle from Orlando airport to Port Canaveral?

Go Port charges $29.99 per person each way, reserved online in advance. Cocoa Beach Express, the port's official ground-transportation company, starts at $28 per person. Carnival sells its own transfer for $37.99 per person. Orlando International lists an approximate taxi fare of $115.

Can I fly in on the morning of my cruise?

You can, but the shared options close early. Go Port won't take MCO flights landing after 12:00 PM, and Carnival's MCO transfer needs you on the ground by noon. From Sanford, Go Port's cut-off is 10:00 AM. After that it's a taxi, rideshare or rental car, and your cruise line's check-in window is the real deadline. Flying in the day before takes the risk away.

Is there a train from Orlando airport to Port Canaveral?

No. Brightline runs from its station at MCO to Miami, not to the Space Coast. A Brightline station in Cocoa has federal funding and Brightline says it will operate it, but it has no opening date. Local reporting points to a 2030 goal.
