Four of you? The car starts to win.
Go Port, Cocoa Beach Express and Carnival’s transfer all sell the ride to Port Canaveral by the seat, so a family of four buys four fares. A one-way rental from MCO is priced by the car, not the passenger. What limits the plan is the clock: Budget and Avis lock up at 3 PM on Saturday and Sunday, and the Mullet Road office sends its last shuttle at 3.
The car can end at Budget or Avis in Cape Canaveral, or at the Mullet Road office shared by Enterprise, Alamo and National.
Each says it runs cruise passengers to the terminals for free — and Budget’s page lays out this exact trip.
Rent one way if
- Three or more of you would each pay a shuttle fare
- You land by late morning for a weekend sailing
- A lunch or grocery stop on the way is part of the plan
- The checker below says your drop-off office is open when you’ll get there
Take a shuttle if
- You won’t land until after about 1 PM on a Saturday or Sunday
- Only one or two of you are going, and a shared shuttle’s pickup fits your flight
- You sail on a Tuesday or Wednesday and wanted the Enterprise-brand office
- Nobody wants to learn an unfamiliar car on a tight morning
Is the office still open when you pull in?
Pick your sail day and the hour you think you’ll pull in. The hours are the ones each office publishes — though Enterprise’s Disney-cruise page says the port office’s hours shift with ship schedules, which is reason enough to call it.
Tuesday and Wednesday are the other trap: the Mullet Road office is shown closed on both.
Each office’s address, phone number and exact wording about the shuttle is on our page about returning a rental near Port Canaveral.
Land, take 528 East, hand back the keys
Find your company’s counter
Terminals A and B keep theirs on Level 1, one floor below baggage claim, with your car across the street in the garage. Terminal C’s are up on Level 4.
Drive S.R. 528 East, the Beachline
MCO calls it a 42-mile route, and its tolls come at two cashless plazas, both west of S.R. 520. Stay on it to the port exits.
Fill the tank
Unless you bought prepaid fuel — which Enterprise and Hertz sell only as a full tank, with no refund for what’s left, a poor trade for a 46-mile drive.
Return the car and keep the bags with you
Budget says its shuttle carries you and your bags to the port, and Avis says its shuttle takes everyone in your party, suitcases included.
Ride to your terminal
That’s Budget’s estimate. Your cruise documents name the terminal — CT-1 and CT-3 off Exit 54B, CT-5, 6, 8 and 10 off Exit 54A.
Where four fares cost more than one car
We start you at four travelers, since that’s about where a one-way begins to pay for itself.
The rental, line by line
Treat this as an illustration, not a quote. We picked the $45 base rate ourselves; on Sept 27, 2026 Discover Cars’ own MCO page advertised “from $7/day” with an “average car rental price” of $19 per day, and cautioned that US prices may not carry every tax and surcharge.
Put your quoted rate in its place — under about $28 a day, with no drop charge on top, a rental can come in below two shuttle fares.
Nobody has confirmed the $9 facility charge (it’s reported), and the fee % is our guess, so your quote settles both. Florida’s $2-a-day surcharge and the 6.5% Orange or 7% Brevard tax are state and county rules, and the tolls are plaza rates we added up (the toll note explains).
Fuel burns at 30 mpg, priced at AAA’s Florida average for Sept 27, 2026, and each shuttle is that company’s published one-way fare a person. The taxi is MCO’s approximate fare, and it’s unclear from MCO’s page whether that covers the whole car or includes a tip.
Leave it at four and our assumed $45 rate, and the rental comes in under four shuttle fares — airport charges and a toll program included.
At one or two of you the shuttle wins, before any drop charge is added.
Does your quote show a one-way charge? Type it in; it’s the line most likely to change the answer.
Six policies, no published MCO-to-port price
| Company | Its own words on one-way charges | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Enterprise | “Some one-way rentals” carry a one-time drop or mileage charge, shown when you book and paid at pickup. | Enterprise |
| Alamo | Close to Enterprise’s wording: a drop or mileage charge may apply, disclosed at booking and due at pickup. | Alamo |
| National | “Typically no drop charge” between airport locations — and an office by the port isn’t an airport. | National |
| Avis | “Most locations” charge no one-way fee; if yours does, you’ll see it at step three of booking. | Avis |
| Budget | At least $45 if you hand the car back somewhere you didn’t book without calling first, so put the drop-off office on the reservation. | Budget |
| Hertz | Decided case by case. Its nearest office to the port runs no shuttle to the ships in any case. | Hertz |
Not one of them posts an MCO-to-Port-Canaveral amount, so we don’t print one; your quote will. Checked Sept 27, 2026
The general case — how one-ways to any cruise port are priced, and when they save you money — is in our one-way rental guide.
Which garage level your car is parked on
| Company | Terminals A & B | Terminal C |
|---|---|---|
| Alamo, Enterprise, National | Garage level R1 | Parking C1 |
| Avis, Budget, Payless | Garage level R2 | Parking C2 |
| Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty | Garage level R2 | Parking C2 |
| Sixt | Level P1 | Parking C1 |
Pickup levels as the airport lists them; Hertz’s own page sends Terminal C arrivals to the main-terminal counter instead of Parking C2, so trust your confirmation. Checked Sept 27, 2026
Ten companies rent on the airport itself — Alamo, Enterprise and National; Avis, Budget and Payless; Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty; and Sixt.
Another 36 work off the airport and collect you by free shuttle from Level 1, at spaces A11–A13, B60–B62, C277–C278, and C3–C4 at the train station.
Of the ten, only Budget, Avis and the Enterprise group confirm a port drop-off with a shuttle. Line up those three (we couldn’t check Dollar or Thrifty).
Anyone under 25 driving? Then price that first.
Enterprise adds $25 a day at MCO for ages 21–24, and Avis and Budget charge $27 a day from 21. Hertz’s US-wide rate is $19 a day from age 20. On a one-day rental that’s a surcharge, not a rounding error.
$2.00 with a transponder, $4.00 by plate
| Plaza (eastbound) | Transponder | By plate |
|---|---|---|
| Beachline Main Plaza (CFX) | $1.08 | $2.16 |
| Dallas Main Plaza (CFX) | $0.64 | $1.28 |
| Dallas Plaza, Turnpike share | $0.28 | $0.56 |
| Total, one way | $2.00 | $4.00 |
Car rates from CFX’s chart effective July 1, 2026 and the Turnpike’s Aug 14, 2026 sheet, added up by us, since neither agency posts a total for the trip. Checked Sept 27, 2026
A rental pays the plate rate plus the company’s fee for every day you touch a toll road — $4.95 with Enterprise, Alamo and National, $6.95 with Avis and Budget.
PlatePass All-Inclusive is a flat charge, not a per-use fee: take it, and Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty put $14.99 on each Florida rental day, toll or no toll.
If a SunPass, E-PASS or E-ZPass already lives in your car at home, bring it — the Beachline takes all three.
Each program side by side, caps and all: the tolls section of our Port Canaveral rental guide.
Check two things on the quote
Search MCO to Cape Canaveral for your sail date. Before paying, confirm that the drop-off is one of the three offices with a port shuttle and that its hours cover the time you’ll really get there.
Discover Cars folds any one-way fee into the total it shows, and you pay it at pickup.
- Pick-up: Orlando airport (MCO)
- Drop-off: Budget, Avis or Enterprise by the port
- One-way charge listed up front
- Cancellation free until 48 hrs prior
Six things people ask about MCO to the ship
Can I rent a car at MCO and drop it off at Port Canaveral?
Yes. Budget’s Port Canaveral page lays out exactly that: pick up at Budget MCO, leave the car at its Cape Canaveral office before you board, and its shuttle runs you and your bags to the port. Avis and the Enterprise, Alamo and National office also run cruise passengers to the terminals for free, so check your quote offers the one-way to them. We found no rental counter at the terminals themselves.
How long is the drive from MCO to Port Canaveral?
About 45 minutes by Port Canaveral’s count and about an hour by Disney Cruise Line’s, and MCO calls it a 42-mile route. It’s S.R. 528 East, the Beachline, the whole way.
What if I land late on a weekend?
Both Budget and Avis shut at 3 PM on weekends, and the Enterprise-brand office’s last shuttle leaves at 3 PM. If you won’t reach an office until after about 1 PM, skip the rental and go straight to the terminal by shuttle, taxi or rideshare.
Is there a one-way fee from MCO to Port Canaveral?
Sometimes, and each company words it differently. Enterprise and Alamo say a drop charge may apply, Avis says most locations don’t charge one, and Hertz decides case by case. Nobody publishes the MCO-to-Port-Canaveral amount — it appears in your quote.
Where are the rental cars at Orlando airport?
Look for the counters one floor below baggage claim (Level 1) in Terminals A and B, or up on Level 4 in Terminal C. The cars sit in the terminal garages: Alamo, Enterprise and National on level R1 (Parking C1 from Terminal C), and Avis, Budget, Payless, Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty on R2 (Parking C2).
Do I have to refuel before dropping the car at the port?
Usually, unless you prepaid for fuel. Enterprise and Hertz sell prepaid fuel only as a full tank with no refund; skip it and return the car less than full, and they refill it at their own rate.
