The verdict

OUTRIGGER Reef is the beach night, in writing. Its FAQ says "The beach is located steps away from the hotel", the only hotel in our twenty that puts it that plainly, and there's a pool open until 9 PM and Kani Ka Pila Grille on Kalia Road.

Kalia Road is the harbor end of Waikiki, so the morning ride is short by Waikiki standards: about 2.9 miles to Pier 2, our estimate, no traffic.

Seventh is a fair place for a hotel that scores the beach and nothing for breakfast, which Outrigger doesn't state. The resort fee is $50 a day, plus tax, and valet runs $60 per 24 hours, or $30 with a local or military ID.

Swim at sunset, eat at the Grille, and book the cab for after you've checked out.
