Pre-Cruise Hotels · Honolulu
Twenty hotels for a cruise from Honolulu, downtown, by Ala Moana, in Waikiki and by the airport, scored on what gets you to the ship, not on reviews. Pick yours, and let the trip start the night before.
Three taps and we’ll show your best three hotels.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. Nobody pays to be here.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, beach, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage, lounges) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
None of the hotels we checked publishes a ride to the ship or a rate to leave the car — so the top three are the ones that feed you. The Holiday Inn Express, Embassy Suites and Hyatt Place, all in Waikiki, each serve a free breakfast and have a pool and a bar.
Filter by what matters for your night. Save the ones you like, or tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.
Royal Caribbean puts HNL about 6 miles and 30 minutes from Pier 2; Cruise Critic says 20 minutes without traffic and up to 40 when it's busy. Two of the twenty are downtown, a short ride from the piers, and fourteen are in Waikiki.
Daniel K. Inouye International · about 6 miles and 30 minutes to Pier 2, per Royal Caribbean
HNL's taxi stand is on the center median in front of baggage claim, per the airport — which prints no fares. The Points Guy puts the ride to the terminal at about $40. Norwegian's old port PDF says $15 to $20, a figure from years ago, not today's meter. The only Honolulu meter rates we found are proposed rules from 2022, so go by the meter. Uber and Lyft pick up outside Baggage Claim 6 at Terminal 1, and on the median between Baggage Claims 19 and 20 and at Baggage Claim 31 at Terminal 2.
The W Line runs from the airport to Downtown on Nimitz Highway, then Kakaako, Ala Moana Center and Waikiki, per the airport. Wikipedia's route list says every 10 minutes on weekdays and 15 at weekends. Cash is $3.25, exact fare, no transfer; a HOLO card's 2-hour pass is $3.00, capped at $7.50 a day. The catch is the bags — one standard medium suitcase and one carry-on, per the airport. Both have to fit under or in front of your seat, or on your lap, per the city's transportation department.
Roberts Hawaii's page for Norwegian passengers lists a shared transfer from the airport to the pier at $29.00 a person, two standard bags included. Back from the pier to the airport or Waikiki it's $26.00 — and a private transfer starts at $208.71 a vehicle.
Norwegian sells airport-to-pier transfers through Step 4 of myNCL Online Check-In, or on 800.327.7030, at least 4 days before you sail. Its FAQ gives no price.
SpeediShuttle runs shared and private transfers to Honolulu's cruise piers and Waikiki hotels, with no prices on its public pages. Phone (808) 242-7777.
Viator's Oahu port-transfer listings start at $18 for shared arrival and departure shuttles between HNL, Waikiki and the cruise terminal. A private transfer from Honolulu or Waikiki hotels to the port starts at $21 — and private airport, port and hotel transfers at $50, $80 and $139.

These twenty are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room. Oahu’s best-rated rooms are in Waikiki and beyond: ESPACIO is the island’s only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star, and Halekulani is Four Diamond and Four-Star with no resort fee. None of them says how far the ships are. The Prince Waikiki, Four Diamond by the Ala Wai Harbor, makes our top twenty.
Honolulu’s cruise ships berth downtown — at Pier 2 off Ala Moana Boulevard, or at Pier 11 by Aloha Tower. The bands measure from Pier 2. Downtown and Chinatown come first, then Ala Moana west of the Ala Wai, then Waikiki, then the airport hotels on Nimitz Highway.
Two of the twenty are downtown, three by Ala Moana, fourteen in Waikiki and one by the airport. Waikiki dominates because that’s where the hotels are, not because it’s close — by our road estimates, the Waikiki picks sit about 2.3 to 4.3 miles from Pier 2.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things decide how easy the night before is, and each one is scored only from what the hotel publishes on its own site or its brand’s.
If a hotel doesn't say it, it scores zero there — not a guess, zero. Travel sites, tourism listings and review sites don't count, and when a hotel’s own pages contradict each other, we score the claim as unconfirmed and tell you. Each page lists exactly what we couldn't confirm.
By band, from Pier 2: downtown, Chinatown and Kakaako 30; Ala Moana 25; Waikiki 20; the airport hotels on Nimitz Highway 15.
Hotel-run shuttle, free or with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package or offer 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. The hotel says you can walk: across the street, a few blocks, or half a mile or less, 15. A ride the hotel arranges through someone else, or a shuttle company it names, 10. A shuttle that doesn’t name the terminal doesn’t count.
Published rate to leave the car 20, including a package with a published price. Offered, price unpublished 14.
Sail mornings start early. A free breakfast on site scores 10, including one inside a mandatory nightly fee.
On the beach 6 (one of the twenty is), pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the closer stated mileage, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. That’s why the Holiday Inn Express tops a four-way tie on 36: its $49 self-parking is the lowest printed rate of the four. The Aston comes fourth because it doesn’t state a breakfast — a gap in what it publishes, not a verdict on the hotel. On 31 the Best Western beats the Pagoda on its free breakfast. The nine Waikiki hotels on 26 fall in order of what they charge to park, from $45 to $65, and Aqua Palms, which prints no rate, comes last.
What's left out is deliberate. Room rates change daily, so they aren't scored. Neither are guest-review scores — they measure a stay in general, not a sail morning.
The ranking tells you which hotel makes the morning easiest. Your dates and your budget decide the rest, so price your own night before you book the winner.
None of the twenty prints a rate to leave the car while you sail, and there’s no parking at the piers. Here’s what the pages do say — and what they don’t.
At the hotels: nothing. Where they print parking at all, it’s a rate for your stay, not your sailing, and none says you can leave the car for the week. Waikiki parking runs $45 to $80 a night in our twenty — the Ala Moana Hotel’s $41 self-park is the lowest printed.
At the piers: nothing either. Norwegian’s old port directions say “Parking: Not Available,” Royal Caribbean says “No parking information is available,” and the Aloha Tower Marketplace lot says “Overnight parking is not permitted” on its SP+ listing.
Nearby: Harbor Court’s underground garage at 55 Merchant Street is open all week, per Parkopedia: $21 at most on weekdays, $3 at most evenings and weekends, cash only, 6 ft 3 in height limit. Parkopedia doesn’t date the rates or price a multi-day stay — call before you count on it.
For the options in town, see Honolulu cruise parking, compared.
We checked 34 hotels downtown, by Ala Moana, across Waikiki and by the airport. These came closest, with their scores and the reason each fell short. Halekulani, ESPACIO, The Kahala, the Royal Hawaiian, the Moana Surfrider and the Four Seasons at Ko Olina are on the splurge list, with the Prince Waikiki.
| Hotel | Score | Why it missed |
|---|---|---|
| Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort | 26 | A lagoon, pools and ten places to eat, but Hilton prints no parking rate or resort-charge amount, and its Park & Stay covers only the nights you stay; behind Aqua Palms on the alphabet. |
| Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa | 26 | A pool, Na Ho'ola Spa and SHOR for breakfast, but a $55 daily resort fee and no parking rate printed. |
| Luana Waikiki Hotel & Suites | 26 | Kitchenettes and full kitchens and a heated pool, but the page we read gave no fees, parking or check-in times. |
| OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beach Resort | 23 | A $50 resort fee plus tax, $60 valet, no restaurant on the pages we read, and its pool is closed from October 5 to December 18, 2026. |
| Airport Honolulu Hotel, Trademark Collection by Wyndham | 21 | By HNL with a pool and Shark's Den, but Wyndham calls its airport shuttle paid without a price, and the $42 "extended parking" is a booking site's, not the hotel's. |
| Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach | 20 | AAA Four Diamond, with $55 self-parking and luggage storage at the bell desk, but a hot tub, not a pool, no breakfast and a $48 daily fee. |
| Queen Kapi'olani Hotel | 20 | At the Diamond Head end with $60 valet, limited, and the pages we read gave us no pool, restaurant or breakfast to score. |
| The Equus | 20 | Its own website is gone — the domain is for sale — so every fact comes from booking sites, and we score none of them. |
| Waikiki Resort Hotel | 20 | Booking-site data only: a $53.42 nightly fee and $47.12 parking, neither from the hotel. |
| Shoreline Hotel Waikiki | 20 | Booking-site data only: a rooftop pool and a $41.55 nightly fee, neither from the hotel. |
| Hotel Renew | 20 | Booking-site data only; the listing shows no pool. |
| Coconut Waikiki Hotel | 20 | Booking-site data only; the listing shows no pool, no restaurant and no free breakfast. |
| Park Shore Waikiki | 20 | Booking-site data only, with the highest nightly fee we saw, $61.73 on the listing, which may include tax. |
| Pacific Marina Inn | 15 | A free 24-hour HNL shuttle and $15 parking, but the shuttle is airport-only, and its pool and restaurant appear only on a booking site. |
Not ranked: Ohana Honolulu Airport Hotel. Now the Airport Honolulu Hotel, Trademark Collection by Wyndham, at the same address, 3401 N. Nimitz Highway; Booking.com's link still uses the Ohana name. We scored it: 21.; Holiday Inn Resort Waikiki Beachcomber. Now the OUTRIGGER Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel; the old web address forwards to Outrigger. It's in our twenty under that name.; Ohana Waikiki West. Booking.com's old Ohana Waikiki West link now opens the Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach, which is in our twenty. That's the link talking, not Hilton.; Hotel Wailana. We found no hotel by this name.; A Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Courtyard by the airport or Pearl Harbor. We found none. The only hotels by HNL on the listings we read are the Best Western The Plaza, the Airport Honolulu Hotel and the Pacific Marina Inn, and those listings show no civilian hotel in Aiea or Pearl City.
One of the twenty runs a free HNL shuttle — Best Western The Plaza, half a mile from the airport, from 5 AM to 1 AM. The Sheraton Princess Kaiulani lists a $20 shuttle by reservation, and the Waikiki Beach Marriott names Fly Shuttle at $19.99.
Royal Caribbean puts HNL about 6 miles and 30 minutes from Pier 2; Cruise Critic says 20 to 40 minutes. A cab is about $40, per The Points Guy — the airport itself prints no fares. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.
Booking.com links are affiliate links: Seabound Journeys may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change what we recommend. Affiliate disclosure.
On our scoring it's the Holiday Inn Express Waikiki, with a free breakfast and a Sky Deck pool, three blocks from Waikiki Beach. It's a four-way tie at 36 with Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk, Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach and the Aston at the Executive Centre, and the Holiday Inn Express wins on its printed $49 parking. None of the hotels we checked publishes a ride to the ship — if you want to be close, the Aston downtown is the one that says the pier is 3 blocks away.
Honolulu Harbor has two cruise terminals, per the Hawaii DOT Harbors Division: Pier 2, the primary one, at 521 Ala Moana Boulevard, at the west end of Channel Street, and Pier 11 at Aloha Tower, the alternate. Your cruise documents say which. Search maps for "Pier 2 Cruise Ship Terminal": Royal Caribbean warns that Google Maps lists another Pier 2 about 4 miles away.
One hotel says so — Aston at the Executive Centre, on Bishop Street downtown: "the pier is just 3 blocks away". The same page lists the cruise terminals 1.5 miles away and doesn't name a pier, so ask which one it means. By our road estimate Pier 11 is about 0.4 miles from the hotel and Pier 2 about 0.8. AC Hotel Honolulu is across Bishop Street. No other hotel we read gives any distance to the ships.
Downtown if you want the shortest ride to the ship: the Aston and the AC Hotel are about 0.8 miles from Pier 2 by road, our estimate. Waikiki if you want the beach the night before — and budget for it: the Waikiki resort fees printed in our twenty run $30 to $59 a night, plus tax, and Waikiki parking $45 to $80. Either way, it's a taxi or rideshare to the pier in the morning.
Not at any hotel that says so — none of our twenty prints a rate to leave the car while you sail. There's no parking at the piers, per Norwegian's old port directions and The Points Guy, and the Aloha Tower Marketplace lot doesn't allow overnight parking, per its SP+ listing. Harbor Court's garage at 55 Merchant Street is open all week, per Parkopedia, cash only, with no published multi-day rate.
One of our twenty runs a free shuttle from HNL: Best Western The Plaza, from 5 AM to 1 AM, half a mile from the airport. Otherwise it's a cab, about $40 to the pier per The Points Guy, or TheBus W Line, $3.25 cash, if your bags fit under the seat.
The simplest is a cab — The Points Guy puts it at about $40, and Royal Caribbean says about 6 miles and 30 minutes. Roberts Hawaii's shared transfer is $29 a person, two bags included. TheBus W Line runs from the airport to Downtown on Nimitz Highway for $3.25 cash, but you're allowed one medium suitcase and one carry-on, and the Skyline train isn't projected to reach downtown until 2031.
Norwegian's Pride of America sails year-round 7-day inter-island cruises from Honolulu, and Norwegian says Norwegian Spirit homeports there, among other Pacific ports, through December 2027. Royal Caribbean's own itinerary page shows Anthem of the Seas leaving Honolulu for Vancouver, and a cruise aggregator lists more one-ways from Honolulu on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Princess and Norwegian Spirit, to Vancouver, Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti.
