A car in the garage overnight, or none until you need it
An HNL car parked one night at the ʻAlohilani comes to about $117 for two on our assumptions, $55 of it the garage. If tomorrow is the ship, that car makes one short drive and then needs handing back somewhere. Skip the overnight car unless the afternoon you land already has a job for it.
Keep a car overnight if
- You land early and Pearl Harbor fills the afternoon
- Your hotel’s garage sits near the $45 end
- You’ll hand it back at HNL on sail morning, after one more drive
Go without one if
- The plan is the beach, dinner and the ship
- You land after the Waikiki desks have shut and only want it tomorrow
- You’d pay $65 to $80 valet for a car you won’t touch till morning
Four Waikiki garages, $45 to $80 a night
Waikiki hotels publish what a car costs them to keep — most of these rates run by the night, before tax.
| Hotel | Area | Parking, as listed | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prince Waikiki | Ala Moana edge | Self $45, valet $50 a night, plus tax; 6 ft 1 in clearance | hotel page |
| ʻAlohilani Resort | Waikiki | Self $55, valet $65 (the first night’s valet $50 through the resort fee) | hotel page |
| Moana Surfrider | Waikiki | Valet only, $65 a day; 6 ft 6 in clearance | hotel page |
| Waikiki Beach Marriott | Waikiki | Self $65 a day ($10 an hour), valet $80, before tax | hotel page |
Each hotel’s own page, read Oct 2, 2026; tax is noted only where the hotel mentions it. Checked Oct 2, 2026
The Prince Waikiki, at the Ala Moana end, is the low figure: $45 to self-park, plus tax. Valet there is $50.
Its 6-foot-1 clearance rules out a tall van — check the class before you book a big one.
The ʻAlohilani lists $55 to self-park and $65 for valet, with the first valet night at $50 through its resort fee. The Moana Surfrider is valet only, $65 a day.
The Waikiki Beach Marriott tops the four at $80 valet and $65 to self-park, before tax. Lose its ticket and its page lists a $75 charge.
Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Centric list self and valet parking without a rate, and Hilton Hawaiian Village’s parking pages didn’t load for us. A missing rate is a question for the front desk, not a sign of free parking.
Choosing the room itself? Our Honolulu cruise hotels rank them, and the splurge list covers the high end.
Noon, 2, 3:30, 4: when Waikiki’s counters lock up
Waikiki’s rental desks keep morning hours, so the car has to fit around them — never the reverse.
| Desk | Hours, as listed | Returning after hours |
|---|---|---|
| Enterprise · Waikiki Discovery Bay Center | Mon–Fri 7:30–5 · Sat and Sun 8–noon | No pick-up; no after-hours returns |
| Enterprise · Waikiki Beach Marriott | Daily 9–noon | After-hours key box in the lobby |
| Enterprise · Hilton Hawaiian Village | Daily 8–noon | Key drop on the garage’s 5th floor |
| Enterprise · Hyatt Centric Waikiki | Daily 7:30–3 | Key drop by the 3rd-floor stalls |
| Hertz · Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach | Daily 8–4 | No after-hours return wording |
| Avis/Budget · International Market Place | Daily 8–3:30 (Avis) | Key drop on the garage’s 5th floor |
| Avis · Sheraton Waikiki | Daily 8–4 | Key drop at ground level |
| Sixt · Alohilani Resort | Daily 6:30 AM–2 PM | 24-hour return through the hotel valet |
Each company’s own location page, read Oct 2, 2026. Checked Oct 2, 2026
Land at HNL mid-afternoon and most of these counters will have closed by the time you reach Waikiki, about 9 miles away.
That shapes the whole night-before plan — a Waikiki car is a morning pick-up, not an arrival-day one.
Returns are easier than pick-ups. Sixt takes cars through the ʻAlohilani valet around the clock, and five other desks list a key box or a drop.
Avis spells out the catch: the car stays your responsibility until it’s checked in the next business day.
Hertz’s Hyatt Regency page says nothing about after-hours returns, so plan to be there by 4.
For every desk’s hours on a given day, airport included, the hub’s checker runs them.
Arrival car plus one garage night, added up
Two of you, a car from HNL on arrival day, one night in a Waikiki garage, handed back before boarding. Change the garage to your hotel’s.
The rental, line by line
The $41 base is Discover Cars’ “from” rate for Honolulu and HNL, updated Oct 1, 2026 — type your own. Oahu’s tax and surcharge are in, and at HNL the airport’s $4.50 a day and an assumed 11% fee; the airport page explains both. Fuel covers about 10 miles at AAA’s Honolulu average, $5.55 on Oct 1, 2026. Parking is the ʻAlohilani’s $55 self-park, so put your hotel’s in and add its tax. The cab fares are our arithmetic on a meter we couldn’t confirm.
One night comes to about $117 on our numbers, and at the Marriott’s $80 valet it’s about $142.
Two cabs, airport to hotel and hotel to pier, come to roughly $69 on the proposed meter — about $48 less, with nobody circling a garage.
If you take the car anyway, return it at HNL on sail morning, where the counters open early, then ride the 6 miles back to Pier 2.
Collect at 8, drop the keys by dinner
The same island day, without the car spending a night in a hotel garage.
Collect in Waikiki
Most Waikiki desks open at 8, Sixt at 6:30 and the Marriott’s Enterprise at 9. Book the desk you can walk to from the hotel.
Drive the day
Diamond Head and Hanauma Bay both run on reservations; the island-days page has the booking windows.
Return through the drop
Use the desk’s key box, or Sixt’s valet, and photograph the fuel gauge and the stall before you walk away.
Board without it
Waikiki to Pier 2 is about 3.4 miles by our estimate — a cab, not a car you’d have to park.
A town desk skips HNL’s charges — at $41, a one-day Waikiki car is about $55 with fuel for a 25-mile loop, our arithmetic, and no garage night at all. Against the overnight car above, that’s the garage saved and the airport fees gone.
Skip it if an unattended drop worries you — then pick a desk whose closing time fits your day instead.
Waikiki to Pier 2 with the bags
The last leg is short — don’t rent a car for it.
Waikiki sits about 3.4 miles from Pier 2, roughly 10 minutes with no traffic by our routing — a cab or rideshare, and a short one. On the city’s proposed meter that’s about $22, our arithmetic, though we couldn’t confirm the meter is in force.
Give the driver “Pier 2 Cruise Ship Terminal” — the hub explains why the plain “Pier 2” can send you astray.
The car-free options, the trolley among them, are on the decision page.
Price a Waikiki desk for the morning you’ll drive
If the island day matters, search a Waikiki desk for that morning and that evening, not the afternoon you land. Then check its closing time against your plan before you compare the rate.
- Pick-up: a Waikiki hotel desk
- Drop-off: the same desk, after hours if it allows
- Taxes and fees shown before you pay
- Free cancellation until 48 hrs before
Waikiki hotels, parking and a rental: questions
How much is parking at Waikiki hotels?
From the hotels’ own pages: Prince Waikiki $45 self-park or $50 valet a night, plus tax; ʻAlohilani $55 self-park or $65 valet; Moana Surfrider $65 a day, valet only; Waikiki Beach Marriott $65 self-park or $80 valet, before tax.
Can I rent a car in Waikiki for just one day?
Yes. Enterprise, Hertz, Avis and Sixt all have hotel desks in Waikiki. Collect in the morning, since every hotel desk we read closes by 4 PM, and return through the desk’s key box or valet if it has one.
What time do Waikiki rental car offices close?
Sixt at the ʻAlohilani closes at 2 PM, Enterprise at the Marriott and Hilton Hawaiian Village at noon, Enterprise at the Hyatt Centric at 3, Avis at International Market Place at 3:30, and Hertz and Avis at the Sheraton at 4. Enterprise Discovery Bay, at the Ala Moana end, keeps 5 PM on weekdays and noon at weekends.
Can I return a rental car after hours in Waikiki?
At most desks. Sixt takes cars through the ʻAlohilani valet around the clock, and Enterprise’s Marriott, Hilton Hawaiian Village and Hyatt Centric desks and both Avis desks list key drops, though Hilton Hawaiian Village’s page gives its drop window as noon to 8 PM. Hertz’s Hyatt Regency page says nothing about after-hours returns.
How far is Waikiki from the Honolulu cruise terminal?
About 3.4 miles, roughly 10 minutes with no traffic by our routing. On the city’s proposed taxi meter that’s about $22, our arithmetic.
Is there self-parking at Waikiki hotels?
At some. The Prince Waikiki, ʻAlohilani and Waikiki Beach Marriott list self-parking; the Moana Surfrider is valet only.
