Splurge Hotels · Athens (Piraeus)

The Nicest Night Before the Ship

Piraeus’s best-rated nights are in Athens and on the coast, not by the gates. The Four Seasons Astir Palace holds Three MICHELIN Keys at Vouliagmeni, about 15.4 road miles from Terminal A by our routing; the Grande Bretagne and THE DOLLI hold Two, about 7.5 to 7.6 miles away on Syntagma and Mitropoleos. Each card says what the hotel adds — and what it leaves you to arrange on sail morning.

What kind of splurge is it?

Eight hotels made this list. Two also make our sixteen: Electra Palace in Plaka and Piraeus Theoxenia by the port. Two are on the Riviera south of Athens, and four are around Syntagma. Pick the kind of night below — the matching hotel lights up.

Greece grades hotels by official star category; we print a category only where the hotel or a listing names it. The MICHELIN Keys and Forbes ratings come from those guides’ own pages. Unrated here means unlisted, not lesser.

The Trade

Splurge the night, and plan the morning

The distances are ours — road routes with no traffic to the Terminal A street point on Akti Miaouli, not straight lines: Theoxenia about 1.3 miles, the Syntagma group 7.5 to 7.6, One&Only Aesthesis 10.2 and the Four Seasons 15.4.

Only the Grande Bretagne and Electra Palace name a transfer to the port, both without a price. Breakfast isn’t confirmed as included at any of the eight, so ask when you book.

Parking is free at One&Only Aesthesis, per MICHELIN, and €16 a day at Electra Palace; the Four Seasons’ listing says both free and charged. None says a car can stay while you cruise, and Holland America says there’s no public parking at the pier.

Every hotel adds Greece’s climate resilience fee per room per night — €15 for a 5-star from April to October. The gates and the lines are in our Athens (Piraeus) cruise guide.

Splurge hotels FAQ

What is the nicest hotel near Piraeus cruise port?

In Piraeus itself, Piraeus Theoxenia is the 5-star, by its own description, about 1.3 road miles from the Terminal A street point by our routing — No. 5 in our sixteen, though its rooftop pool is closed for 2026. For the top ratings you go into Athens or down the coast: the Four Seasons Astir Palace holds Three MICHELIN Keys, and the Grande Bretagne and THE DOLLI hold Two.

Which Athens hotels have MICHELIN Keys?

Of the ones on this list, the Four Seasons Astir Palace has Three Keys; the Grande Bretagne and THE DOLLI have Two; One&Only Aesthesis and Xenodocheio Milos have One. MICHELIN also gives One Key to Anthology of Athens, ERGON House, Monument and NOT Hotel.

Do luxury hotels in Athens run a transfer to Piraeus?

The Grande Bretagne lists private transfers from Piraeus port and the airport, without a price, and Electra Palace lists a port transfer on request. Xenodocheio Milos has a shuttle service that MICHELIN doesn't say goes to the port. For the rest, book a taxi — about 14 to 17 minutes from Syntagma to the Terminal A street point on empty roads, by our routing.

Can I park at an Athens luxury hotel while I cruise?

None of the eight says so. One&Only Aesthesis parks free, per MICHELIN; Electra Palace charges €16 a day. Holland America says there's no public parking at the pier, and our parking page lists POLISPARK's packages at €35 (about US$40) for 3 days and €60 (about US$65) for 7, as sold in September 2026.

How much is the hotel tax at a 5-star in Athens?

Greece's climate resilience fee for a 5-star is €15 per room per night from April to October and €4 (about US$4) from November to March, per the Greek government's November 2024 answer to Parliament; Law 5177/2025 repeats the same amounts. The Grande Bretagne calls itself 5 star; a British Airways Holidays listing says THE DOLLI is too.
