Piraeus Cruise Port Rental Cars: Desks, Hours and Where to Leave One

No rental company we read hands you keys inside a Piraeus cruise terminal. The desks that never close are at Athens Airport, about 31 road miles (50 km) away; nearer the ships, Hertz says it’s a few minutes’ walk from the cruise gate but doesn’t print its hours. This page lines up every desk we could confirm, checks which is open when you’d walk in, and prices what a car costs while it waits for you near the port.

Gate E11 or E12: the Piraeus terminal decides every distance

Ferries and cruise ships share the Piraeus waterfront, with a dozen numbered gates between them.

Before you book

Find your terminal letter first, then pick a desk. The Piraeus Port Authority runs three cruise terminals: Terminal A (Miaoulis) through Gate E11, and Terminals B (Themistocles) and C (Alkimos), both through Gate E12, per MSC. No line publishes a fixed terminal; MSC says “terminal assignments may vary”, by traffic and ship size, so the letter on last year’s blog may not be yours.

Holland America lists all three at the same street address, Akti Miaouli 10, Piraeus 185 38 — one address for three buildings that don’t sit side by side.

Holland America puts Terminal A about 15 minutes on foot from the Line 1 metro and the other two about 30, since B sits out on the Themistocles breakwater — a long haul with cruise bags, not a stroll.

Gates E1 to E10 serve the ferries, not the cruise ships, per a ferry-booking site’s gate map that matches MSC on E11 and E12. Tell a driver “E11” or “E12”, not just “the port” — a gate number gets you to the right building.

No major brand page we read offers delivery to a Piraeus cruise terminal. Hertz’s Piraeus page mentions “the cruise disembarkation gate” only to say its office is a few minutes’ walk from it.

The port authority runs a free shuttle “among the passenger stations and the ships”, with no published route or hours. A cruise-booking help page adds that buses carry passengers from the outer berths to Terminal A every 10 to 15 minutes, which we couldn’t confirm with the port.

Check your boarding documents for A, B or C before you choose a pick-up.

It adds that hours “may be modified due to exceptional circumstances individually by stores”.

About 31 road miles and 47 minutes to Terminal A with no traffic, by our routing along the motorway a car actually drives. Holland America says 20 miles (32 km) and about an hour without saying how it measured, so plan on its hour. Avis’s own page lists its airport branch at the 5th km of Spata–Loutsa Avenue, open 24 hours with a 24-hour drop-off.

Return here at any hour, then the metro, the X96 or a cab to the port.

About 7.1 road miles (11 km) between Terminal A and this office, about 13 minutes with no traffic, our routing in the port-to-office direction.

Return inside 7:30 to 9; we read nothing about after-hours drop-off here.

ShuttleA supplier meets you; no counter

Discover Cars’ Piraeus Port page puts pickup at “Piraeus Port, Gate E7, Aristidou 6” by meet and greet, with local suppliers such as H-Lead, Autounion, Alma, WheeGo, AddCar, Selecta, Lets Drive and Volta4u.

Gate E7 is a ferry gate on the map we read — expect a walk or a short cab from E11 or E12.

Return terms are the supplier’s; read them in the booking.

The airport card stands for six brand groups at one counter area, Exit 4 in Arrivals — and the hours are the airport’s list, not each brand’s.

Avis on Syggrou Avenue is the only city office here with hours we could read, 7:30 AM to 9 PM every day, about 7.1 road miles from Terminal A.

The two port listings, Hertz and Europcar, publish no hours we could read.

A gap, not a verdict. Phone before you plan a morning around either.

The Gate E7 card is a reseller pick-up point for local firms, not a branded counter. Its Piraeus Port page said from $26, averaging $47 a day, by meet and greet at Gate E7.

We couldn’t read Sixt’s Greek site, Enterprise’s or Budget’s Piraeus and city branch pages, any weekday-by-weekday hours for the port offices, or their after-hours return rules — so they’re off the cards, rather than guessed.

Pick a day and an hour: which Athens-area desk is serving?

Choose a day and the time you’d reach the counter. The checker reads published hours in Athens time.

We set it to Saturday at 9:30 in the evening on purpose.

That’s a late flight landing before a Sunday sailing — the hour the list thins to the airport alone.

Move it to 10 AM and Avis Downtown joins in. The port listings stay grey, because neither prints hours.

The disembark-day version of this, Sunday mornings included, lives on the after-cruise page.

    Near the ships

Hertz by the cruise gate, and the Gate E7 meet-and-greet

Two options sit inside the port area. Neither one publishes enough for us to call it a sure thing.

Hertz’s Piraeus page says its office is “just a few minutes’ walk from the port gates E9 and 10 as well as the cruise disembarkation gate”, next to Agios Nikolaos church.

It doesn’t print hours. A search result gave 67 Akti Miaouli as the street — that page wouldn’t open for us.

From Terminal A, that’s the shortest walk to a branded counter we found — on paper, at least.

Discover Cars’ meet-and-greet sits at Gate E7 — a ferry gate on the map we read, with local firms rather than the big brands.

Expect a cab from E12, not a walk, if you’re on the B or C side.

Call Hertz on +30 210 626 4000 with your date and terminal before you book either.

From the EU’s Your Europe VAT table and Hertz Greece’s general terms, read Oct 3, 2026 — Checked Oct 3, 2026

Hertz Greece wants drivers over 21 for its small groups (A, B, J, Z and V2) and 25 for the rest, and a licence held for at least a year.

Its young-driver surcharge lets 19- and 20-year-olds rent those small groups for €12 to €80 a day depending on the group (about US$13 to US$90), and charges drivers aged 21 to 24 €10 (about US$11) a day plus VAT (€15 on some groups). Hertz’s terms add that all its rates and charges are “subjected to V.A.T.”, and print the young-driver fee “+ VAT” — so check whether your quote’s extras include it.

Hertz Greece pre-authorises a credit or debit card for a deposit of €100 to €500 depending on the cover you take, and says the release “may take up to 14 days”. Two weeks is a long time for €500 (about US$560) to sit on a card you’ll want on board — use a card with room on it.

Its collision damage waiver still leaves you liable for €650 to €3,000 by car group; the super cover cuts that to €160 to €800.

That’s up to €3,000 (about US$3,370) of exposure, not a deductible your US policy will necessarily cover. Read your card’s rental terms for Greece first.

You’ll need an International Driving Permit as well as your US licence; the decision page has the embassy’s exact words.

Our dollar figures convert at the European Central Bank’s Oct 2, 2026 reference rate, about $1.12 to the euro — your card’s rate will differ.

    Leaving it

No parking at the Piraeus pier, so where does a rental wait?

Holland America says there’s no public parking at the pier, which settles more than it seems to.

Holland America: “There is no public parking at the pier.” Plan the car around that line.

A cruise-booking help page says private lots on Akti Miaouli, about 150 m away, start “at €20 per day”; it’s undated, so treat it as a lead.

POLISPARK at Agios Nikolaos sold cruise packages of €35 (about US$40) for 3 days and €60 (about US$65) for 7 days in September 2026; its site showed no prices when we re-checked Oct 3, 2026. Call +30 210 72 55 420 for this year’s price.

Athens Airport’s economy parking: “Only €5 per day”. That’s about €35 (about US$40) a week — and 31 miles from the ship.

Now price the car itself, sitting still. At an assumed €40 (about US$45) a day, seven idle days come to about €280 (about US$315) before any parking — our arithmetic.

That’s roughly €220 (about US$245) more than POLISPARK’s whole week — for a car nobody drives.

Give it back before you board and rent again after.

Driving your own car to Piraeus is a different sum; our Piraeus parking guide covers POLISPARK in full.
