Pre-Cruise Hotels · Seward
Twenty hotels for a cruise from Seward, in town and in Anchorage, scored on what gets you to the ship, not on reviews. Pick yours, and let the trip start the night before.
Three taps and we’ll show your best three hotels.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. Nobody pays to be here.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, beach, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
Three in Seward with a ride to the terminal. Harbor 360 and Seward Gateway run free shuttles, at 12:15 and 12:05 PM, and Hotel Seward runs a scheduled one to the dock; confirm its fare.
Filter by what matters for your night. Save the ones you like, or tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.

Alaska has no hotel on AAA's 2026 Four or Five Diamond lists. A nicer night still exists, though, in a mountain resort with a tram and a spa, Anchorage's landmark hotel, a cedar lodge outside Seward, and three downtown nights by the train.
Seward has one cruise terminal, at the harbor end of town next to the railroad station. The bands measure from there: the harbor, downtown, just outside town, Girdwood on the train line, and Anchorage.
Four of the twenty are by the harbor, three downtown, three just outside town, one in Girdwood and nine in Anchorage, about 130 miles north.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things decide how easy the night before is, and each one is scored only from what the hotel publishes on its own site or its brand’s.
If a hotel doesn't say it, it scores zero there — not a guess, zero. Travel sites, tourism listings and review sites don't count, and when a hotel’s own pages contradict each other, we score the claim as unconfirmed and tell you. Each page lists exactly what we couldn't confirm.
By band, from the Seward terminal: by the harbor 30; downtown Seward 25; outside town, Exit Glacier Road or across the bay, 20; Girdwood 15; Anchorage 10.
Hotel-run shuttle, free or with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package or offer 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. The hotel says you can walk: across the street, a few blocks, or half a mile or less, 15. A ride the hotel arranges through someone else, or a shuttle company it names, 10. A shuttle that doesn’t name the terminal doesn’t count.
Published rate to leave the car 20, including a package with a published price. Offered, price unpublished 14.
Sail mornings start early. A free breakfast on site scores 10, including one inside a mandatory nightly fee.
On the beach 6, pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3. None of the twenty is on a beach.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the closer stated mileage, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. That’s why Resurrection Lodge sits above the Breeze Inn on 33 (free breakfast), Coast Inn above the Marina Motel on 30 (parking on site), and Embassy Suites above Home2 and SpringHill on 26 (the alphabet). On 23, the four Anchorage hotels with free breakfast sit above Exit Glacier Lodge and the Windsong.
What's left out is deliberate. Room rates change daily, so they aren't scored. Neither are guest-review scores — they measure a stay in general, not a sail morning.
The ranking tells you which hotel makes the morning easiest. Your dates and your budget decide the rest, so price your own night before you book the winner.
No Seward hotel publishes a price to leave the car, and the terminal has no lot. If you’re driving up, the airport’s lots in Anchorage are the priced option; set your cruise length.
| ANC long-term lot, $13 a day, $78 a week | — |
| ANC Park, Ride & Fly lot, $9 a day, $40 a week | — |
Anchorage airport’s own rates, checked Oct 2, 2026, counting the day you park and the day you leave. The Park, Ride & Fly lot runs a shuttle every 15 to 20 minutes; the airport said it was closed to new cars from May 5 for construction, so check before you count on it. Seward’s terminal has no long-term lot, and the city’s lots charge $10 a day that runs out at midnight.
For the options in town, see Seward cruise parking, compared.
We checked 38 hotels in Seward, Whittier, Girdwood and Anchorage. These came closest, with their scores and the reason each fell short. The Copper Whale, the Captain Cook and the Marriott downtown are on the splurge list, and in our Whittier twenty.
| Hotel | Score | Why it missed |
|---|---|---|
| Copper Whale Inn | 20 | A free continental breakfast downtown, but no parking on site and no ride. It's in the Whittier twenty. |
| Hotel Captain Cook | 16 | Anchorage's big downtown hotel, with a pool in its athletic clubs and five restaurants, but nothing published for cruisers. |
| Marriott Anchorage Downtown | 16 | An indoor pool, "steps from the train station" in Marriott's words, but no free breakfast and $39 valet. |
| Hilton Anchorage | 16 | An indoor pool downtown, but no free breakfast or airport shuttle. |
| Aloft Anchorage | 16 | An indoor pool and EV chargers in midtown, but no free breakfast or airport shuttle. |
| Courtyard Anchorage Airport | 16 | A free airport shuttle a mile from ANC, but no free breakfast. |
Not ranked: Westmark Anchorage. Holland America's hotel company no longer lists it among its hotels, and guests reported it closed in 2026.; Seward Military Resort. Open only to the military and their families, so not for most cruisers.; Murphy's Alaskan Inn. Its own site still announces the 2020 season, so we couldn't confirm it's open.; The Tides Inn (formerly Taroka Inn). Eight rooms with no site of its own that we could find.
Five of the twenty run a free airport shuttle, all in Anchorage. In Seward none does; Harbor 360 and the Gateway run free shuttles to the terminal instead.
From ANC to Seward it’s about 130 miles, per Royal Caribbean: the train from the Anchorage depot at 6:45 AM, a $78 bus on Thursdays and Fridays, your line’s transfer or a rental car. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes.

On our scoring it's Harbor 360. It runs a free shuttle to the cruise terminal at 12:15 PM, booked with the front desk that day, with free breakfast and Seward's only hotel pool. The Seward Gateway, with a free 12:05 PM shuttle, free breakfast and free parking, is three points behind, and Hotel Seward, downtown with a scheduled shuttle to the dock, comes next.
Seward has one cruise terminal, the Alaska Railroad's new building next to the Seward station, at 913 Port Avenue per Cruise Critic. It officially opened on June 10, 2026, after a May delay, per Cruise Hive, a trade site. Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska's 2026 Seward schedule, updated June 8, lists calls by Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Princess, Viking, Silversea, Azamara and Crystal; it doesn't mark which calls start a cruise there, so your cruise documents confirm yours.
Four say so. Harbor 360 runs a free one at 12:15 PM, booked with the front desk that day, and the Seward Gateway a free one at 12:05 PM. Hotel Seward runs a scheduled shuttle to the railroad station and cruise dock, dropping off from 4:15 to 4:45 PM, and its page lists Hotel Edgewater guests on it too; one Hotel Seward page calls it complimentary and another says a nominal fee applies, so confirm the fare. The Breeze Inn's free shuttle goes to "major Seward locations" and the Windsong Lodge's to the harbor and downtown; neither names the terminal, so ask.
In Seward if you can: you wake up a short ride from the ship, and Harbor 360 or the Gateway will take you there. Anchorage suits a late flight in; the Coastal Classic leaves the depot at 6:45 AM and reaches Seward at 11:20 AM, and the Historic Anchorage Hotel is two blocks from it.
Not at the terminal: Royal Caribbean says long-term parking isn't available there, and the city's lots are $10 a day and run out at midnight. No Seward hotel publishes cruise parking. Anchorage's airport long-term lot is $13 a day with a $78 weekly cap, and Coast Inn at Lake Hood offers discounted long-term parking without a printed price.
Five of our twenty run a free shuttle from ANC: Coast Inn at Lake Hood, Fairfield Midtown, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Puffin Inn. All are in Anchorage, about 130 miles from Seward, and none runs a ride south. In Seward, Harbor 360 and the Gateway run free shuttles to the cruise terminal.
The Alaska Railroad's Coastal Classic runs to the station next to the terminal, $133 one way in Adventure Class for 2027. Alaska Cruise Transfer and Seward Bus Lines run buses from ANC for $78 on Thursdays and Fridays, Park Connection leaves downtown at 7 AM and 3 PM, and there's a Hertz in Seward for a one-way rental. Fares checked Oct 2, 2026.
Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska's 2026 Seward schedule, updated June 8, lists calls by Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Princess, Viking, Silversea, Azamara and Crystal, plus a few expedition ships. It doesn't say which calls start a cruise in Seward, so your cruise documents confirm your port.
