We looked for the nicest places to stay before a Port Tampa Bay cruise, not the most practical — that’s what our top 20 is for. Tap the night you’re after and the pick lights up.

All six are on AAA’s 2026 Four Diamond list, and one, the EDITION, is Forbes Four-Star. Nothing in the Tampa Bay area is Five Diamond, and we say so rather than stretch. We note Forbes Travel Guide’s rating wherever there is one.

A 1905 federal courthouse turned AAA Four Diamond hotel, one mile from the port by Marriott’s own count. Valet $45, paid breakfast, and a $50-a-night pet fee. It scored 31 in the top 20 and lost the tiebreak.

The Trade

Splurge the night, plan the morning

None of these six drives you to the ship, and none publishes a rate to leave your car. That’s the trade for the nicer night, and in Tampa it’s a smaller trade than it sounds: the EDITION puts the port 0.8 miles away, Le Méridien says one mile, and the JW is a block from the EDITION. A cab from any of the three is minutes.

The Epicurean is in South Tampa, 3 miles from the aquarium by its count. The Vinoy and the Don CeSar are across the bay, and the Don is on the far side of Pinellas County — an hour or more on a sail morning. Driving? The port’s garage across from Terminal 3 is about $15 a day by the cruise lines’ count.

Want a big hotel on the water that’s also in our top 20? The Tampa Marriott Water Street is AAA Four Diamond, next to the convention center, and ranks fifteenth; the Westin on Harbour Island is fourteenth.

What is the nicest hotel near Port Tampa Bay?

The Tampa EDITION. It's the only Forbes Four-Star hotel in the Tampa Bay area, it's AAA Four Diamond, Lilac has a Michelin star, and the hotel puts the port 0.8 miles from its door on Channelside Drive. The JW Marriott Tampa Water Street, a block away, is AAA Four Diamond and Forbes Recommended, with two rooftop pools. No hotel in the area is AAA Five Diamond or Forbes Five-Star.

Are there Five Diamond hotels near Port Tampa Bay?

No. AAA's 2026 Five Diamond list has nothing in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater or Sarasota; the nearest are The St. Regis Longboat Key and The Ritz-Carlton, Naples. Tampa has nine AAA Four Diamond hotels, and the Tampa EDITION is the region's only Forbes Four-Star.

Do luxury hotels in Tampa have a cruise shuttle?

None of the six publishes one. The EDITION's house car makes free drop-offs within 2 miles, and the terminals are inside that by the hotel's own 0.8-mile figure, but its page doesn't name the port, so ask the concierge. Le Méridien says it's one mile from the port. The rest are a taxi or a rideshare, and from St. Petersburg or St. Pete Beach that's a real drive.

Can I leave my car at a splurge hotel while I cruise?

None of the six says so. Every one is valet-only or paid parking, from $25 a night at the Epicurean to $58 at the EDITION, and none mentions the cruise. If you're driving, the port's garage across from Terminal 3 is the honest answer; the cruise lines put it at about $15 a day.

Is the Pendry Tampa open?

Not yet. The hotel's own site says it's debuting in 2027, on Ashley Drive by the Riverwalk. And there's no Ritz-Carlton hotel in Tampa: the Ritz-Carlton Residences on Bayshore Drive are condominiums.
