Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.

Getting There
From the airport to the hotel, then on to the ship
Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.
Eight of the twenty give you a free ride from Tampa International, and every one of them is by the airport. None runs anything from St. Pete-Clearwater, which is across the bay, so from PIE it’s a taxi, a rideshare or a private car.

TPA
$35 or $40 for the car, per the airport
Tampa International's ground-transportation page says Yellow Cab charges a flat $40 to downtown Tampa and the cruise terminal; its arriving-passenger guide says the maximum is $35. The meter otherwise runs $3.50 for the first fifth of a mile and $2.85 a mile, with a $22 minimum from the airport. Pick up at Red 1 and Blue 2 on the baggage level.
Uber's route pages: TPA to Port Tampa Bay Terminal 2 averaged $30, with UberX at $28, Share $22 and XL $39, for a 9-mile, 24-minute ride. PIE to Tampa averaged $42, UberX $36. The airport adds a $5 fee to rideshare pickups at TPA. Estimates, not guaranteed fares.
Carnival's Tampa transfer runs between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM on sail day, and your flight must land by noon. Meet the representative at baggage claim on the Red or Blue side by the elevators. Add your flight in online check-in at least two days out.
$70 from TPA, $85 from St. Pete or Clearwater, per vehicle
A private operator, not the port. Its prices include tolls, airport fees and port fees, and exclude the driver's tip. Vans, SUVs, town cars and buses for larger groups.
Listed on Viator as a shared-ride transfer from TPA to Port Tampa Bay, about 30 minutes, priced per group rather than per person. SuperShuttle's own Tampa page says shared rides are for large pre-booked groups.
Driving? The column to watch is “While you sail”. Compare hotel parking with the port’s own garages on Port Tampa Bay parking, compared, or price it out in the parking math below.

No shuttle. Hilton puts St. Pete-Clearwater 17 miles away.
To the ship
Hilton lists no port shuttle, and at half a mile by its own count you don't need one: roll the bags over, or take a five-minute cab. Hilton's Park, Stay & Go page says some hotels offer a cruise-port ride and to check with the hotel.
The hotel says its shuttle does not serve Tampa International. No distance is given.
St. Pete-Clearwater (PIE)
The hotel doesn't mention St. Pete-Clearwater.
To the ship

IHG says the shuttle isn't available for the airport, which it puts about 12 miles away.
St. Pete-Clearwater (PIE)
IHG doesn't mention St. Pete-Clearwater.
To the ship

St. Pete-Clearwater (PIE)
No shuttle. Hilton puts St. Pete-Clearwater 25 miles away.
To the ship
Hilton lists no port shuttle of its own. Its Park, Stay & Go page promises a shuttle to select airports and cruise ports for registered guests, and says to verify; a cruise blog quotes $50 round trip for two, which Hilton doesn't.
These twenty are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room. If the night itself is the treat, Tampa has one hotel Forbes rates Four-Star, 0.8 miles from the port by its own count, a JW Marriott a block over, and the Pink Palace across the bay. Not one of them publishes a ride to the ship.
Five of the twenty are in the Channel District and on Water Street, where Hilton counts half a mile to the terminals and nobody needs a shuttle. Four are downtown, on the Riverwalk or in Ybor City, a mile or two out. Eight are by the airport, 15 minutes away by the port’s count, trading the walk for free TPA rides and cheaper parking. Two sit off I-4 in East Tampa, where the park-and-cruise deals live, and one is by the fairgrounds.
The luxury hotels on Water Street and Harbour Island are here too, at fourteenth and fifteenth: they publish nothing about the cruise, so they score on distance and the evening alone. The Tampa EDITION, JW Marriott and Le Méridien are on the splurge list instead.

How We Score
The Night-Before Score, out of 100
Five things decide how easy the night before is, and each one is scored only from what the hotel publishes on its own site or its brand’s.
If a hotel doesn't say it, it scores zero there — not a guess, zero. Cruise blogs, reseller packages and tourism listings don't count, and neither do offers about to expire. Each page tells you exactly what we couldn't confirm.
30pts
Distance to the ship
By band: the Channel District and Water Street 30, downtown, the Riverwalk and Ybor City 25, East Tampa off I-4 20, Westshore and the airport 15, the fairgrounds and Brandon 10.
25pts
Getting to the ship
Hotel-run shuttle, free or with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package or offer 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. The hotel puts the terminals within half a mile, so you walk 15. A partner shuttle 10.
20pts
Parking while you sail
Published rate to leave the car 20, flat and weekly rates included. Offered, price unpublished 14.
10pts
Free breakfast
Sail mornings start early. A free breakfast on site scores 10.
15pts
The evening before
On the beach 6, pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3. No Tampa hotel is on a beach, so 9 is the ceiling here.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the closer stated mileage, then the lower guest parking price. That’s why the Four Points sits above the Residence Inn, the Westin above the Marriott Water Street, and the Courtyard above the Hilton and the Airport Marriott.
What's left out is deliberate. Room rates change daily, so they aren't scored. Neither are guest-review scores — they measure a stay in general, not a sail morning.
The ranking tells you which hotel makes the morning easiest. Your dates and your budget decide the rest, so price your own night before you book the winner.
Parking Math
Hotel parking plus the ride, or the port's garage?
Set your cruise length and how many people ride. Every hotel that publishes a daily or flat parking rate is priced out, next to the port’s own garage at about $15 a day — the cruise lines’ figure, since the port doesn’t print one — with no shuttle leg to add.
Parking and the ride only, at each hotel’s published rate before tax. Hotel parking counts your hotel night plus every cruise night. For the port, we count every day from sail day to the day you’re back at $15 a day, the figure Royal Caribbean and Celebrity publish for the port’s garage (the port itself prints no rate, and Norwegian says $14). The Holiday Inn Express East-Ybor is a flat $75 for up to 14 days. The Four Points publishes only $119 a week, so it isn’t priced here, and neither are the hotels that sell parking only inside a package or offer. Neither priced hotel publishes a shuttle fare, so both totals read “+ ride”, and no row gets “Lowest” until one does. Room rates aren’t included.
We checked 45 hotels. These came closest to the top twenty, with their scores and the reason each fell short.

Why it missed
Hilton Tampa Downtown
31
Tied on points with the last two in, and lost the tiebreak on breakfast, which is paid. Hilton puts the port a mile away, but it's valet-only at $55 with a daily mandatory charge and no cruise terms.
Le Méridien Tampa, The Courthouse
31
AAA Four Diamond, and Marriott says it's one mile from the port. Valet $45, paid breakfast, nothing about the car. It's on our splurge list instead.
Hotel Haya
31
Ybor City's boutique, with a courtyard pool and Flor Fina. Valet $39, a $25-a-night amenity fee, paid breakfast, and its parking package covers your stay, not your cruise.
Aloft Tampa Downtown
31
On the river at Kennedy Boulevard, valet-only at $44, no free breakfast and nothing published about the port or the car.
Hotel Tampa Riverwalk, Curio Collection
31
The former Sheraton, now a Curio, on the Riverwalk with a pool bar. Valet $44 ($75 oversized), paid breakfast, and Hilton's page says nothing about the cruise.
Hilton Garden Inn Tampa Ybor Historic District
31
Hilton puts Channelside 2 miles away and describes the hotel as adjacent to the cruise terminals, but there's no shuttle, parking is $30 a day, and breakfast is paid.
Hampton Inn Tampa-International Airport/Westshore
28
Free parking for the night, free breakfast and a free airport shuttle on request, but no port distance, no cruise-parking terms and no port shuttle.
SpringHill Suites Tampa Westshore Airport
28
Free breakfast and a free airport shuttle by reservation. A cruise blog describes a $10 shuttle and a 14-night parking deal; Marriott's own pages show $15-a-day parking and nothing else.
Holiday Inn Express Tampa-Brandon
23
Free breakfast and $10-a-day parking, but IHG's page says park-and-cruise is not available, and there's no shuttle. Brandon is 8 to 10 miles out.
Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay
21
AAA Four Diamond on 35 bayfront acres with two pools, but the $35-a-day destination fee, paid breakfast and no cruise terms put it 10 points off the twenty.
Not ranked: DoubleTree by Hilton Tampa Airport-Westshore. Closed, per its Yelp listing; it's no longer on Hilton's list of airport-area hotels. Old pages still advertise a Park, Stay & Go package.; Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk. Now Hotel Tampa Riverwalk, Curio Collection by Hilton, which scored 31.; The Westin Tampa Waterside. Now Westin Tampa Downtown Waterside, No. 14 here.; Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina. Now Tampa Marriott Water Street, No. 15 here.
Flying In
Landing the day before?
Eight of the twenty give you a free ride from Tampa International, and all eight are by the airport. Land, ride over, and let the hotel handle the evening. None of them publishes a ride to the ship in the morning, so that leg is a taxi, a rideshare or a Carnival transfer.
Staying downtown instead? From TPA it’s a 15-minute drive by the port’s count; the airport puts a taxi at $35 or $40 flat, and Uber’s own estimate is about $28. The Residence Inn names Rowe Transportation at $15 one way. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes from TPA and St. Pete-Clearwater, and the planner turns your answers into a morning.

FAQ
Pre-cruise hotel FAQ
What's the best hotel near Port Tampa Bay for the night before a cruise?
On our scoring it's Embassy Suites by Hilton Tampa Downtown Convention Center, next to the convention center. Hilton puts the port half a mile away, every room is a two-room suite, breakfast and the evening reception are free, and Park, Stay & Go holds the car for up to seven nights — at a price you get by phone. The Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk is second, with a free shuttle within 2 miles and a Ship & Shore package that covers parking for 10 days and the ride both ways. Holiday Inn Express East-Ybor is third, with the cheapest published cruise parking in town: $75 flat for up to 14 days. Best on paper, not best for everyone: the matcher above weighs your own answers.
Which Port Tampa Bay hotels run their own cruise shuttle?
As of September 25, 2026, one publishes a free hotel shuttle that reaches the port: The Barrymore, whose shuttle covers a 2-mile radius from 8 AM to 10 PM, and whose Ship & Shore package names the ride to and from Port Tampa Bay. Holiday Inn Express East-Ybor runs one at select times for a fare it doesn't publish, and Quality Inn Fairgrounds includes a round-trip shuttle in its Stay Park and Cruise package. Three hotels don't need one: Hilton puts the Embassy Suites Downtown, the Home2 Suites and the Hampton Inn in the Channel District half a mile from the terminals. Everyone else is a taxi or a rideshare, and several Hilton hotels say only that a cruise-port ride may be available — check with the hotel.
Can I leave my car at the hotel while I'm on the cruise?
At some of them, and the published deals are cheap. Holiday Inn Express East-Ybor charges $75 flat for up to 14 days, or nothing with its Stay and Cruise package; Holiday Inn Express Airport charges $10 a day; the Four Points Westshore publishes $119 a week; and Quality Inn Fairgrounds bundles 14 days of parking and a round-trip shuttle into a room rate of $173. Seven more offer it through a package, Hilton's Park, Stay & Go or a Marriott offer without a published price. The downtown and Channel District hotels publish daily parking rates — $25 to $55 — and nothing about leaving the car, so a daily rate isn't proof it covers your nights at sea. Ask when you book.
Which Port Tampa Bay hotels have a free airport shuttle?
Of our twenty, these give you a free ride from Tampa International: Holiday Inn Express Airport, Embassy Suites Westshore, Four Points Suites Westshore, Courtyard Westshore, Hilton Airport Westshore, Tampa Airport Marriott, Homewood Suites Westshore and Hyatt Place Westshore. The Hyatt Place Westshore's is an Uber the desk orders rather than a van, and the Airport Marriott is inside the terminal. Residence Inn Downtown name a paid car service instead. None of the twenty runs anything from St. Pete-Clearwater; the downtown, Channel District and Ybor hotels list no airport ride at all.
Is it cheaper to park at the hotel than at the port?
Often, yes, and in Tampa the port makes it hard to be sure. Port Tampa Bay prints no daily rate on its pages; Royal Caribbean and Celebrity put its garage at about $15 a day, subject to change, and Norwegian says $14. A week at the Holiday Inn Express East-Ybor's flat $75 beats eight days in the garage by about $45 before the ride. Add a taxi from 4 miles out and the gap narrows. Run your own numbers in the calculator above.
Can I walk from my hotel to the cruise terminal in Tampa?
Yes, and that's what makes Tampa different from the other Florida ports. Hilton puts the Embassy Suites Downtown, the Hampton Inn and the Home2 Suites in the Channel District half a mile from the terminals, and the Tampa EDITION says 0.8 miles. Terminal 6 on McKay Street is the closest to the Channel District hotels; Terminals 2 and 3 are on Channelside Drive. Which terminal you use is in your cruise documents, and a five-minute cab is the fallback if the bags or the heat win.
Should I stay downtown or by the airport?
Downtown or the Channel District if you're flying in and want to walk to the ship, or want dinner on the water. By the airport if you want a free TPA shuttle and a published rate to leave the car — eight of the twenty give you the ride, and the Holiday Inn Express Airport charges $10 a day. The port calls the airport a 15-minute drive from the Channel District, so neither choice costs you the morning.
Why don't you show room prices?
Hotel rates near the port move every day and spike on busy sailing days, so any number we printed would be wrong by the time you read it. We rank on what doesn't change daily — shuttles, parking policies, breakfast — and leave the live rate to the booking site for your exact date. Price it for your own night before you assume the No. 1 is the cheap one.
