Fly into Haneda, not Narita. Our routing puts it about 8.4 miles (13.6 km) and 18 minutes from the Tokyo terminal and 14.4 miles (23.1 km) and 26 minutes from Osanbashi, with no traffic.
A taxi to the Tokyo terminal is about ¥6,000 (about US$40) on the meter, and to Osanbashi about ¥10,100 (about US$65) — our arithmetic from the published tariff, before tolls. By rail, JNTO prints Haneda to Nihon-odori at ¥660 (about US$4) and 36 minutes, with about 5 minutes on foot to Osanbashi.
Narita is about 43.6 miles from the Tokyo terminal and 61.2 from Osanbashi. Check which terminal your cruise documents name, not the one you assume, before you price any of it.
The train or bus works if
- It’s one or two of you, each pulling a single case
- You’re going to Yokohama, where the Keikyu line is direct
- You’ve got time before check-in
A taxi earns its fare if
- You land the morning you sail
- Three or four of you share about ¥6,000 between you
- Your ship is at the Tokyo terminal and you’d rather skip the changes

What the ride to the pier costs
Taxi rows are per car, not per person, and they’re our own arithmetic. The bus and rail rows are per adult, as printed by JNTO, JR East and the bus operator.

One way, in yen, as printed on October 5, 2026, or our arithmetic where we say so. Fares conflict between sources: JNTO and JR East disagree on the N’EX, and JNTO and the Yokohama tourism site disagree on the Haneda bus.
Viator, a marketplace, listed Yokohama port transfers from US$77 shared and US$115 private to Haneda on that date.
Discover Cars showed Haneda rentals from US$29.50 a day and Narita from US$14.10 on October 5, 2026, prices that move daily. You need a passport and an international driving permit.
Five terminals, and your ship uses one
Tokyo Bay has five cruise terminals. The City of Yokohama’s own brochure and Holland America list three in Yokohama — Osanbashi, Shinko and Daikoku — and the port of Tokyo runs two more.
The table is what each operator publishes, read October 5, 2026.
| Terminal | Run by | Where | What it publishes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tokyo International Cruise Terminal (TICT) | Tokyo Metropolitan Government | Odaiba (Aomi) | One 430 m berth, ships up to 220,000 GT; a free shuttle from Tokyo Teleport Station, times by call day | kouwan.metro.tokyo.lg.jp |
| Harumi | Tokyo Metropolitan Government | Chuo-ku | One 456 m berth, ships up to about 60,000 GT; no nearest station named on the pages we read | kouwan.metro.tokyo.lg.jp |
| Osanbashi | City of Yokohama | Naka-ku | Two berth pairs of 450 m, ships up to 120,000 GT; Nihon-odori Station about 5 minutes on foot | city.yokohama.lg.jp |
| Daikoku Pier | City of Yokohama | Tsurumi-ku | Berths up to 220,000 GT; no walkable station, about 15 minutes by taxi to Motomachi-Chukagai, per the city | city.yokohama.lg.jp |
| Shinko Pier | City of Yokohama | Naka-ku | Listed in the city's own brochure and by Holland America; no use for embarkation confirmed by any page we read | city.yokohama.lg.jp |
Your documents name the terminal. Holland America prints addresses for Tokyo and for Osanbashi, Shinko and Daikoku.
Royal Caribbean’s directions name Daikoku Pier, and Princess says its cruises depart from Yokohama without naming one.
Tokyo’s port says Disney expects to start cruises here in fiscal year 2028, which runs April 2028 to March 2029.
Regent’s land programs meet guests outside customs at Narita or Haneda and take them to hotels by private vehicle, with no price printed. Everyone else plans their own ride.
Where Haneda sits on the bay
Haneda is on the Tokyo side of the bay, a short run from Odaiba and the Tokyo terminal and about 14 road miles from Osanbashi. Narita is about 60 km east, off this map.
Could you land the morning you sail?
No line we read prints a landing cut-off for Tokyo or Yokohama.
The first row is Royal Caribbean’s generic pier rule. The others are our own margins, not rules.
- Royal Caribbean's generic pier ruleRoyal Caribbean's generic rule, not a Tokyo one: pier check-in no later than 2 hours before sailing if you haven't checked in on its app.—
- The ride to the Tokyo terminal, with time to spareOur rule of thumb, not a line's: land at least 4 hours before the ship leaves.—
- The ride from Narita, with time to spareOur rule of thumb, not a line's: Narita is 60 to 90 minutes by road, so land at least 5 hours before the ship leaves.—
Your boarding pass sets your check-in time, and all-aboard is usually printed on it too. We’d land the day before — a morning landing leaves nothing for a delayed bag or a long immigration line.
Fly in a day early, and taxi to the ship in the morning.
We ranked eighteen hotels for a Tokyo or Yokohama cruise, and five of them sit within two road miles of a terminal. Tell us the flight and the ship, and we’ll pick the night that fits your landing.
The morning you’re back
No line we read publishes a disembarkation time for Tokyo or Yokohama. By our arithmetic a taxi to Haneda is about ¥6,000 from the Tokyo terminal and about ¥10,100 from Osanbashi — both before tolls.
JNTO prints the Keikyu and subway route from Nihon-odori at ¥660 and 36 minutes.
Enter your flight time and when you expect to be ashore, and the planner sets out the ride to Haneda and the wait at the gate.
Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, since it's built only from what each company publishes.
The small print on the fares
The Tokyo Hire-Taxi Association prints ¥500 (about US$3) for the first kilometre in the 23 wards, then ¥100 (about US$1) for each 232 m, ¥100 for each 1 minute 25 seconds of slow traffic, and 20% more from 10 pm to 5 am. A news report says fares rose about 10% from late April 2026.
Tolls are yours, and a taxi-ordering charge is extra. The page also mentions 10% off amounts over ¥9,000 (about US$55), but the wording is ambiguous — so our arithmetic doesn’t apply it.
Yokohama’s km Group prints the same ¥500 and ¥100 per 232 m, with a ¥500 pick-up fee and a ¥500 reservation fee. Haneda posts fixed fares to some wards, but we found no list — ask the dispatcher whether your terminal is a fixed fare or on the meter.
Haneda’s own page puts Shinagawa about 15 minutes away by Keikyu or the monorail and Tokyo Station about 30. Terminal 3 is open 24 hours — Terminals 1 and 2 close around midnight.
For Odaiba, the Yurikamome sells a one-day pass at ¥820 (about US$5), and the Tokyo Subway Ticket is ¥800 for 24 hours — a December 2024 price on JNTO’s page.
Tokyo’s accommodation tax is ¥100 or ¥200 (about US$1) per person per night by room price, as news outlets report it.
We didn’t read the Metropolitan Government’s own page — and we state no Yokohama rate. The hotels page has the planned 3% change, proposed from fiscal 2027.
For the terminals and the lines, see our Tokyo cruise guide.
If your flight lands at Narita
These six are flight hotels, 41 to 43 road miles from a terminal, so we don’t rank them for a cruise. Each lists a shuttle to the airport — but for a Tokyo or Yokohama ship you’d still face the long ride the next morning.
| Hotel | What we read |
|---|---|
| Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport | About 41 road miles from the nearest cruise terminal. Hilton lists a complimentary shuttle to Narita and an indoor pool, but it's a flight hotel, so it sits here and not in the ranking. |
| Hotel Nikko Narita | About 43 road miles from a terminal. The airport's hotel page lists a free shuttle to Narita. It's a flight hotel, so it's here and not in the cruise ranking. |
| Narita Tobu Hotel Airport | About 43 road miles from a terminal. The airport's hotel page lists a free shuttle to Narita. |
| ANA Crowne Plaza Narita | About 42 road miles from a terminal. IHG lists a complimentary shuttle from 06:00 to 23:00. |
| Narita Gateway Hotel | We found little beyond a name, a free airport shuttle and a schedule change from August 1, 2026. It's about 20 minutes from Narita. |
| HOTEL MYSTAYS Premier Narita | The hotel's page gave no address or check-in time. We can confirm a free shuttle and a child-breakfast price, and little else. |
The case for landing a day early
One night in Tokyo or Yokohama takes the clock off sail morning. After a long flight you’ll want the ship a short taxi or a train ride away — with breakfast first.
None of our eighteen runs a shuttle to a terminal. Haneda Excel Tokyu is connected to the Terminal 2 departure lobby, per a third-party directory — and Hilton Odaiba and Grand Nikko are stops on the Airport Limousine Bus from Haneda at ¥1,000.
Six have a station within about 0.4 miles on a line that reaches a terminal station — two more sit on the Yurikamome, which serves the Tokyo terminal but not Harumi. The rest are a taxi.

Airport questions, answered from the sources
Is Haneda really the closest airport to the ships?
Yes.
Our routing puts Haneda (HND) about 8.4 miles (13.6 km) and 18 minutes from the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, 10.5 miles from Harumi and 14.4 miles (23.1 km, 26 minutes) from Osanbashi, all with no traffic. Holland America prints about 9 miles and 16 minutes to the Tokyo terminal, which agrees.
Its 49 miles to Osanbashi doesn't — and we couldn't reproduce it.
What does a taxi from Haneda cost?
By our arithmetic, about ¥6,000 to the Tokyo terminal and about ¥10,100 to Osanbashi, both before tolls. We worked them from the Tokyo taxi association's tariff, ¥500 for the first kilometre and ¥100 per 232 m after, over our routing of 13.6 and 23.1 km.
Holland America prints about ¥30,000 (about US$190) for Haneda to the Tokyo terminal, which doesn't match the meter — our figure for Narita to the Tokyo terminal is about ¥30,400, so check which airport that number means.
A travel blog puts fixed fares from Haneda to Naka-ku and Nishi-ku in Yokohama at ¥8,800 to ¥10,000 (about US$55–65).
Can I just take the train from Haneda to Osanbashi?
Yes, with a short walk at the end.
JNTO prints Keikyu Express from Haneda to Yokohama Station at 30 minutes and ¥450 (about US$3), then the Minatomirai Line to Nihon-odori at 6 minutes and ¥210 (about US$1), then about 5 minutes on foot. That's 36 minutes and ¥660 in all.
Does any cruise line run a shuttle from the airport?
Not a public one that we found — Princess sells an airplane-to-ship transfer with no Tokyo price on its page, and Holland America sells transfers after you book. NCL's Tokyo tour that ends at Haneda is a four-hour excursion at US$239 for adults on its India storefront.
Regent's land programs meet you outside customs at Narita or Haneda, price not printed.
How bad is Narita for a Tokyo cruise?
Long enough to avoid if you can.
Our routing puts Narita about 43.6 miles (70.2 km, 62 minutes) from the Tokyo terminal and 61.2 miles (98.4 km, 89 minutes) from Osanbashi. JR East prints the N'EX to Yokohama at ¥4,480, though JNTO prints ¥4,090, and the Airport Limousine Bus to Yokohama Station is ¥4,000 for about 110 minutes.
Does the Odaiba bus stop at the cruise terminal?
No — the Airport Limousine Bus Odaiba and Ariake route is ¥1,000 for adults, and the operator lists stops at Hilton Tokyo Odaiba and Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba. It doesn't stop at the terminal.
How early is early enough to land?
We found no line that prints an earliest-landing rule for these ports — and Princess's flight-guideline page was closed to our reader. Royal Caribbean's generic rule asks for pier check-in no later than 2 hours before sailing if you haven't checked in on its app.
We'd land the day before.
When can I fly out after the ship docks?
No line we read gives a Tokyo or Yokohama figure. NCL warns that its Haneda tour can overlap a flight and need cancelling.
Haneda's Terminal 3 is open 24 hours — and Terminals 1 and 2 close around midnight.
Do Uber and GO taxis work here?
Uber dispatches licensed taxis in Yokohama and takes cards in the app, and GO has an English app that shows the 23-ward tariff. Neither is a cruise service, and prices move — so compare with the rank at the airport.
Can I forward my bags from Haneda?
JAL ABC prints ¥1,950 (about US$12), ¥2,820 (about US$18) or ¥7,000 (about US$45) by size from Haneda to the Kanto area, with the earliest delivery next day, and names hotels as destinations. It doesn't say it delivers to a cruise terminal, and we found no cruise-line scheme for Tokyo or Yokohama — send them to the hotel, not the pier.
