Fly into Vancouver International. Holland America puts it about 30 minutes from Canada Place, the Canada Line runs to Waterfront Station next to the terminal, and four of our top-20 hotels run a free shuttle from it.
Seattle only makes sense if the fare saving is big and you’re landing a day or more ahead: an older Princess guide puts the coach north at 3.5 to 4 hours. Whichever you pick, land the day before if you can.
Fly into YVR if
- You want the Canada Line straight to the terminal
- You want a free shuttle to an airport hotel the night before
- You’re sailing Princess, whose landing rule counts from YVR
Consider Seattle if
- The fare saving is big
- You’re landing a day or more ahead
- You’re happy with a long coach or drive north

One terminal on Burrard Inlet
Cruises sail from Canada Place, at 999 Canada Place on the downtown waterfront, per the port, next to Waterfront Station for the SkyTrain, the SeaBus and the West Coast Express. From YVR it’s the Canada Line north, or Granville Street and the Arthur Laing Bridge by road.

What the ride to the ship costs
Pick your airport and set how many of you are riding. The train charges per person and the taxi by the car, so the cheaper answer changes with the size of your party.

One way, in Canadian dollars, before tip, as each source published it on September 26, 2026, with the taxi, Canada Line and port fares re-read October 2, 2026. The Canada Line row is TransLink’s 1-zone tap fare, C$3.50, plus its C$6.50 airport AddFare; that 1-zone rule covers weekends and weekdays after 6:30 PM, and TransLink doesn’t list the zones for a weekday daytime trip. The taxi row is YVR’s flat zone fare; the port lists C$42 for the ride back from the terminal. The Seattle coach figure comes from an older Princess guide.
Other ways in: planDisney panelists quoted Disney’s transfer at US$28 a guest in 2026, and Royal Caribbean, NCL and Oceania sell theirs by phone or with a package, without a printed Vancouver price. Viator’s Vancouver port transfers start at $43 for a private car that varies by group size.
Landing on sail day? Check your timing
Princess publishes its own rule. Beyond that, the yardstick is our rule of thumb, labelled as ours. Enter your landing time and the departure time from your cruise documents.
- Princess guestsPrincess asks for flights landing at least 3 hours before the ship leaves.—
- Canada Line, taxi or a booked transfer, any lineNo cut-off of its own; Holland America puts the ride at about 30 minutes. Our rule of thumb, not a line’s: land at least 4 hours before the ship leaves.—
- Seattle, then the coach or a car northAn older Princess guide puts the coach at 3.5 to 4 hours. Our rule of thumb, not a line’s: fly into Seattle the day before.—
The port says the terminal is busiest between 7 AM and 5 PM, with 40,000 to 50,000 people through between Friday and Monday most weekends in peak season, and US officers do their pre-inspection at the terminal — CBP’s word for it, not preclearance. Your cruise line’s check-in window, in your boarding documents, is the real deadline.
Land the day before. Wake up by the ship.
Twenty hotels for Canada Place: six that say you can walk to the terminal, and four by YVR with a free airport shuttle. Tell us your sail date and we’ll book the night before.
The morning you’re back
Holland America puts YVR about 30 minutes from Canada Place. Put in your flight and this works out the ride, the wait and what to do with the bags.
Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage, lounges) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
Can you get to the ship without a car?
Yes, all the way. The Canada Line runs from YVR to Waterfront Station in under 30 minutes, per YVR, and the port says the terminal is next to the station. Trips that start at the airport add TransLink’s C$6.50 AddFare, from July 1, 2026; trips to the airport don’t.
Bags: Holland America says Canada Place stores luggage from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Bounce lists storage 3 minutes from the terminal from C$4.75 a day, if you have hours to fill after you get off. Coming home, Holland America warns that taxi waits can reach 1.5 hours when several ships are in; Gray Line has the ground transportation desk in the terminal, per the port.
Flying in the day before
The day-before flight is the one move that takes a delay off sail day. It costs a hotel night. It buys you the morning.
Four of our top twenty run a free airport shuttle, all in Richmond. Downtown, six say you can walk to the ship, from Pan Pacific, which has an elevator down to the terminal, to Coast Coal Harbour, a 10-minute walk away.

Vancouver cruise airport FAQ
What is the closest airport to the Vancouver cruise terminal?
Vancouver International (YVR) — Holland America puts it 9 miles and about 30 minutes from Canada Place, and a planDisney panelist says 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. The Canada Line runs from the airport to Waterfront Station, next to the terminal, in under 30 minutes, per YVR.
How do I get from YVR to Canada Place?
The Canada Line to Waterfront Station, a taxi, or a transfer — the train is the cheapest of the three. After 6:30 PM on weekdays and all weekend, the Canada Line is C$10 a person by tap: the 1-zone fare plus TransLink's C$6.50 airport AddFare. A taxi is C$46 flat on YVR's zone map. planDisney panelists quoted Disney's transfer at US$28 a guest in 2026, and other lines sell theirs by phone or at booking.
How much is a taxi from YVR to the cruise terminal?
C$46 flat to Canada Place/Downtown on YVR's zone map, with the C$4 passenger load charge included. Holland America says C$45 (US$32), and the Fairmont Waterfront about C$35 to C$45 — three sources, three figures, all checked Oct 2, 2026. Going back, the port lists C$42 flat from the terminal to YVR, and Holland America warns the taxi wait can reach 1.5 hours when several ships are in port.
Is the Canada Line cheaper on the way back to the airport?
Yes — TransLink says there's no YVR AddFare on trips to the airport, so it's the zone fare only. After 6:30 PM on weekdays and all weekend that's the 1-zone fare, C$3.50 by tap.
Can I fly into Seattle instead?
You can — but it's a long way round, not a shortcut. An older Princess port guide puts Vancouver to Seattle, the city, at 151 miles and 3.5 to 4 hours by motorcoach, C$45 a person. Quick Shuttle runs between Seattle's cruise piers and downtown Vancouver on ship days, with 24 hours' notice; its page doesn't print a fare.
How early should I land on sail day?
Princess asks for flights that land at least 3 hours before the ship leaves — a floor, not a target. The port says the terminal is busiest between 7 AM and 5 PM, and 40,000 to 50,000 people pass through between Friday and Monday most weekends in peak season, so the day before is the calmer plan, not the cautious one.
Is there a lounge at YVR?
LoungePair sells 3-hour passes to six YVR lounges, from US$32 at the SkyTeam lounge to US$65 at Plaza Premium First, across the domestic, international and US transborder areas.
Can I store my bags on sail day?
Holland America says Canada Place stores luggage from 8 AM to 5 PM, and an older Princess guide names CDS Baggage (604-303-4500) for short-term storage at the terminal. Bounce lists a spot 3 minutes away from C$4.75 a day — a third-party listing, not the port.
