Galveston is the rare port where the nice hotels handle the cruise part too. Both of the island’s AAA Four Diamond hotels, The San Luis and Moody Gardens, sell a cruise package with the ride to the terminal, and the Tremont House is a 4-minute walk from the port. Five of these six also make our top 20.
We looked for the nicest places to stay before a Galveston cruise. At most ports that list and our top 20 barely touch; here five of the six rank there too, because these hotels publish the cruise details. Tap the night you’re after and the pick lights up.
Two are AAA Four Diamond for 2026. Nothing in Galveston is Five Diamond or Forbes-rated, and we say so rather than stretch.

Three of the six publish a ride to the ship: The San Luis and Moody Gardens in their cruise packages, and Hotel Lucine as an add-on when you book. The Tremont House runs a shuttle and is a 4-minute walk anyway. Only the Grand Galvez and the Villas say nothing, and the Villas sit inside The San Luis, so ask about its package.
What none of them prints is a firm price. The packages are priced by phone, the Tremont’s parking terms change between its own pages, and The San Luis’s resort fee shows up only on a third-party site. Get the numbers in writing.

By the ratings, The San Luis. It's one of two AAA Four Diamond hotels in Galveston, every standard room has a Gulf-view balcony, and its Stay, Park & Cruise package covers the ride to the terminal. Its five Villas, with private hot tubs and their own pool, are the most private rooms on the island. Moody Gardens is the other Four Diamond hotel, and the better fit for families.
No. AAA's 2026 Five Diamond list has two Texas hotels, both far from the coast: The Post Oak in Houston and Hotel Emma in San Antonio. Forbes Travel Guide's Houston page lists only hotels in Houston itself. Galveston's best are its two AAA Four Diamond hotels, The San Luis and Moody Gardens.
More of them than at any port we've covered. The San Luis and Moody Gardens both include a ride to the terminal in a cruise package, and Moody Gardens says it takes four. The Tremont House runs a shuttle, though it's a 4-minute walk from the port, and Hotel Lucine adds a ride when you book. None publishes a fare you can count on. The Grand Galvez runs no shuttle.
At most of them, though none prints a clean price. The San Luis and Moody Gardens include parking in their cruise packages; the Tremont House charges $160 plus tax, with its pages disagreeing on 7 or 8 days; and the Grand Galvez lists long-term parking without a rate. Hotel Lucine doesn't say. The port itself publishes no parking rate; MSC quotes $23 a day for its lots.
Yes, under a new name: the Grand Galvez Resort, Autograph Collection. New owners renamed it in 2021 and moved it to Marriott in 2023. Its site still claims a AAA Four Diamond award, but it isn't on AAA's 2026 list. It ranks 13th in our top 20.
