Splurge Hotels · New York

The Nicest Night Near the Ship

New York’s best-rated rooms are in Midtown and downtown, and none of them mentions a cruise. Three of our six are AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star; the one that says you can walk to a ship is Ink 48, Four Diamond, by Pier 88. For Brooklyn and Cape Liberty, the nice night comes with a car in the morning.

What kind of splurge is it?

We looked for the nicest places to stay before a cruise from Manhattan, Brooklyn or Cape Liberty. One of the six, Ink 48, also heads our top 20, because its own pages say you can walk to the ship; the other five are the better rooms, and the morning is yours to arrange. Tap the night you’re after and the pick lights up.

Three are AAA Five Diamond for 2026 and Forbes Five-Star, and three are Four Diamond. New Jersey has no Five Diamond hotel, and we say so rather than stretch.

Splurge the night, and plan the morning

None of the six publishes a ride to the ship. Ink 48’s own pages say you can walk to the Manhattan terminal; every other splurge here means booking a car for the morning, and at Cape Liberty you can’t arrive on foot anyway.

The fees add up. Ink 48 charges a $40-plus-tax nightly amenity fee and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge $45 a day, and valet runs from $57 at the Westin to $135 at the Ritz-Carlton.

Driving and want a printed number? Only one of our twenty prints one: the TWA Hotel at JFK, $80 a night for two nights and $60 after, valet only. The terminals’ own lots are $45 a night in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and $35 a day at Cape Liberty.

FAQ

Splurge hotels FAQ

What is the nicest hotel near the New York cruise terminals?

By the ratings, three tie at the top: the Mandarin Oriental at Columbus Circle, the Ritz-Carlton on Central Park South and the Four Seasons Downtown are all AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star. None of them mentions cruises, so arrange the ride yourself. Closest to a ship, Ink 48 is AAA Four Diamond, and its own pages say you can walk to the Manhattan terminal.

Are there Five Diamond hotels near the New York cruise terminals?

In Manhattan, several. Our three Five Diamond picks are the Mandarin Oriental, the Ritz-Carlton Central Park and the Four Seasons Downtown; the Park Hyatt, The Peninsula, Baccarat, Aman and the Four Seasons Hotel New York are on AAA's list too. New Jersey has none, so for Cape Liberty the top-rated pick is the Westin Jersey City Newport, Four Diamond.

Do luxury hotels near the New York cruise terminals have a cruise shuttle?

No. None of our six runs a ride to a terminal. Ink 48 says you can walk to the Manhattan one, and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge's $45 daily amenity fee includes an Audi e-tron car service, but the hotel gives no range for it and doesn't mention the terminal. The Westin Jersey City Newport names Cape Liberty and runs no shuttle to it. Book a car for the morning.

Can I leave my car at a splurge hotel while I cruise?

None of the six says you can. Valet runs from $57 a day at the Westin Jersey City Newport to $135 at the Ritz-Carlton, while you stay. The terminals' own lots are $45 a night in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and $35 a day at Cape Liberty per Royal Caribbean.

Is Ink 48 still a Kimpton?

Not by its own site: it's Ink 48 Hotel now, with no Kimpton or other brand name, though older listings may still use the Kimpton name. It's AAA Four Diamond and No. 1 in our top 20.
