Pre-Cruise Hotels · New York
Twenty hotels for a cruise from Manhattan, Brooklyn or Cape Liberty, scored on what gets you to the ship, not on reviews. Pick yours, and let the trip start the night before.
Three taps and we’ll show your best three hotels.
Change any answer and the picks change with it. They’re built from the same published facts as the ranking below. Nobody pays to be here.
Matching weighs your answers against each hotel’s published shuttle, parking, breakfast, pool, beach, kitchen and pet policies.
Five answers, and the page builds the whole thing: the hotel, the ride in, the ride to the ship, what happens to the car, what time to leave, and how you get home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see that instead of a guess.
Who’s coming and the mood come from Your Match; the plan uses the same answers.
Partner links (transfers, rental cars, luggage storage, lounges) may earn Seabound Journeys a commission at no extra cost to you. They don't change the plan, which is built only from what each company publishes.
One for Pier 88 and two for Cape Liberty. Ink 48’s own page says you can walk to the Manhattan terminal; the SpringHill Suites and the Embassy Suites by Newark Airport pair free breakfast with a way to leave the car.
Filter by what matters for your night. Save the ones you like, or tick up to three to compare side by side — the order is ours, the shortlist is yours.
Add your sail date and the links open on the night before.

Marriott tells Cape Liberty cruisers to park here and set sail, with free breakfast, an indoor pool and a kitchenette in every suite.
Made-to-order breakfast, an indoor pool and Hilton's Park, Stay & Go on its own offers page. Cape Liberty is a cab ride.
A named Park & Cruise package: 8 nights of parking, a ride to the port and breakfast, plus a full kitchen in every suite.
A fully equipped kitchen in every one of 411 studios and a free breakfast, on Times Square's west side. Nothing for cruisers on Marriott's page.
Free breakfast between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues in Hell's Kitchen, with the Intrepid 0.3 miles off by IHG's count. Nothing for cruisers on its page.
3.0 miles from Cape Liberty by Marriott's own count, the shortest distance a New Jersey hotel prints, with free breakfast and long-term parking.
Free breakfast, $22 parking and Hilton's Park, Stay & Go on its own offers page. Its shuttle is for "select airports", not the port.
Marriott calls it conveniently located near the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, with free breakfast and a kitchen in every suite.
Kitchenettes and a free hot breakfast on Broadway at 55th, in the tower Marriott calls the tallest hotel in the Americas.
Breakfast included, "just steps away" from Times Square and Broadway in Riu's words. No parking at all, so it's for flyers.
Free breakfast, a 24/7 JFK shuttle and Park, Stay & Go on its offers page. Red Hook is the drive from here.
A night at the TWA Flight Center at JFK, with a year-round rooftop pool and a printed valet rate to leave the car. Red Hook is a drive.
Free hot breakfast and on-site parking at $40 a day, between Gowanus and Boerum Hill. It doesn't mention the ship.
A free breakfast that runs to 10:30 on weekdays, on West 40th by Port Authority. Valet is $85 and there's nothing for cruisers.
An indoor pool, Bistro 128 in the lobby and Hilton's Park, Stay & Go on its own page. Breakfast costs extra.
Free breakfast by LaGuardia and a Park & Go offer: one night, up to 7 of parking. The pier is a drive into Manhattan.
Free breakfast and an hourly JFK shuttle, with long-term parking mentioned but not priced. No restaurant or bar.
Robot luggage storage and a big rooftop on Tenth Avenue, two blocks from Times Square. Nothing about the ship.
Park, Stay & Go on its own offers page, $28 covered parking and the Newarker for burgers and steaks, a mile from Newark Airport. Breakfast costs extra.
No hotel on the list has all of those. Try dropping one filter.
Booking.com lists airport taxis you can book ahead. Check the pickup point, the price and the cancellation terms before you book.
Booking.com links are affiliate links: Seabound Journeys may earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change what we recommend. Affiliate disclosure.
Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.
Three airports, three terminals, and no single right pairing. Newark is the one for Cape Liberty: Royal Caribbean puts it 9 miles away. For Manhattan and Brooklyn it’s JFK or LaGuardia, and Cunard calls LaGuardia the quick one to Red Hook, about 20 minutes. Ten of the twenty run a free airport shuttle, and every one of them sits by an airport, not a terminal. For everyone else it’s a taxi, the train, a cruise line’s transfer or a booked car.
John F. Kennedy International · 0.2–40 miles from these hotels, by their own counts
The TLC's flat fare between JFK and Manhattan is $70 either way, plus a 50-cent MTA surcharge, a $1.00 improvement surcharge, a $2.50 congestion surcharge in a yellow cab, $5.00 from 4 to 8 PM on weekdays, tolls and tip. A 75-cent congestion pricing toll covers Manhattan south of 60th Street but excludes Route 9A, where the terminal's car entrance is, so it may not apply. The flat fare is for Manhattan only: a cab to Red Hook runs on the meter, and the port estimates $45 to $60 from JFK to the Brooklyn terminal. The Manhattan terminal's own page still quotes $52 flat; the TLC's fare is $70.
Trips to and from LaGuardia are the standard meter plus a $5.00 surcharge and the other applicable surcharges, per the TLC; the meter starts at $3.00 and adds 70 cents per fifth of a mile, or per minute in slow traffic. The port estimates $25 to $35 to the Manhattan terminal and $28 to $38 to Brooklyn.
A New York City cab to Newark runs on the meter plus a $20.00 Newark surcharge, tolls and tip, and you pay the driver's return tolls too, per the TLC. We didn't find Newark's own taxi fares from the airport. The port estimates $80 to $100 from Newark to either New York terminal. Royal Caribbean puts Cape Liberty 9 miles from Newark, without a fare.
The AirTrain is $8.75 one way, free for children under five and free between terminals. With a $3 subway ride it's $11.75, per the MTA, and with the LIRR $14 off-peak or $16 peak. For Manhattan, the port points to the A, C, B, D or 1 train to Columbus Circle, then the M57 or M31 bus. For Brooklyn, it's the subway to Borough Hall and the B61 bus to Pioneer and Van Brunt Streets, or the NYC Ferry's South Brooklyn route to its Red Hook landing, $4.00 one way.
The AirTrain is $8.75 one way, and free between terminals, parking, rental cars and hotel shuttles; construction may bring temporary shuttle buses. NJ Transit to New York Penn Station is $17.25 with the AirTrain included, about 30 minutes. For Cape Liberty by rail, Royal Caribbean's route is PATH to Jersey City or Hoboken, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail to 34th Street in Bayonne, then a Bayonne cab about two miles; the Port Authority doesn't let guests arrive on foot, per Celebrity.
The Q70 LaGuardia Link is free, per the MTA and the airport, and connects with the subway at Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Av and 74 St–Broadway and with the LIRR at Woodside. The M60 bus is $2.90, per the MTA. From the subway, the port's routes via Columbus Circle for Manhattan and Borough Hall for Brooklyn apply.
For Carnival guests, to the Manhattan terminal; Carnival titles them "Port NYC - Manhattan". Your flight must land by 12 PM at JFK or LaGuardia, or by 1 PM at Newark. Transfers leave LaGuardia at 10 AM, 11 AM and 12 PM, and Newark between 11 AM and 1:45 PM; for JFK the transfer's own page lists 10 AM, 11 AM and 12:45 PM, and Carnival's general page 12 PM for the last. Coming home, the earliest flight is 1 PM at LaGuardia and Newark; the JFK transfer says 12 PM. Some of the transfer pages say "Starting at $44.99". Prices can change without notice, and unused transfers aren't refunded.
Norwegian says ground transportation for the Manhattan Cruise Terminal "is available at the same cost for all three airports", without printing the price. Transfers must be arranged at least 4 days before sailing.
Royal Caribbean says "all ports have transfer services to and from the airport at an additional fee", with no Cape Liberty price on the page, and Celebrity closes transfer sales about 5 days before sailing. Cunard asks for your flight details at least 35 days before departure to arrange Brooklyn transfers. We found no New York transfer price from MSC, Princess or Virgin.
GO Airlink sells a shared ride to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal with "fixed fares" shown only in its booking engine; the page we read doesn't list them. It says a shared ride "is not available to Brooklyn Cruise Terminal" and offers private cars there instead.
Viator's New York port-transfer listings include a private car from New York to Cape Liberty from about $115, a one-way transfer for the Manhattan terminal from about $140, and a private all-inclusive transfer between the cruise port and an airport or Manhattan from about $142.
Driving? The column to watch is “While you sail”. Compare hotel parking with the port’s own garages on New York cruise parking, compared, or price it out in the parking math below.

These twenty are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room. New York’s best-rated rooms mostly skip the cruise details: of our six splurge picks, only Ink 48 and the Westin Jersey City Newport mention a terminal at all, and New Jersey has no AAA Five Diamond hotel. Ink 48, AAA Four Diamond and a walk to the Manhattan terminal by its own account, heads our twenty.
Three terminals, in three places. Pier 88 is on Twelfth Avenue in Manhattan, with its car entrance at West 55th Street; the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is Pier 12 in Red Hook; Cape Liberty is at 4 Port Terminal Boulevard in Bayonne, New Jersey, and you can’t arrive there on foot. Each hotel is measured from the terminal it serves.
Three of the twenty are in Hell’s Kitchen by Pier 88, from Ink 48 on Eleventh Avenue, which says you can walk it, to YOTEL on Tenth. Six are a mile or two out, in Midtown West or around Gowanus in Brooklyn; seven are by Newark Airport, for Cape Liberty; and four are at JFK or LaGuardia. Use the Manhattan, Brooklyn and Cape Liberty filters above to see only the hotels for your terminal.
Numbers are the ranking. Each pin sits where the hotel is — the bands group them by distance, the way we score it.
Five things decide how easy the night before is, and each one is scored only from what the hotel publishes on its own site or its brand’s.
If a hotel doesn't say it, it scores zero there — not a guess, zero. Cruise blogs, tourism-board flyers and expired offers don't count, and when a hotel’s own pages contradict each other, we score the claim as unconfirmed and tell you. Each page lists exactly what we couldn't confirm.
By band, measured from the terminal the hotel serves: Hell’s Kitchen west of Ninth Avenue for Pier 88, or Red Hook for Brooklyn, 30; Midtown West, Times Square’s west side and Hudson Yards, or Carroll Gardens, Gowanus and Park Slope, 25; the rest of Midtown, Downtown Brooklyn and Sunset Park 20; Jersey City and the Newark Airport hotels, for Cape Liberty, 15; JFK and LaGuardia 10.
Hotel-run shuttle, free or with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package or offer 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. The hotel’s own pages say you can walk, or put the terminal within half a mile, 15. A partner shuttle 10.
Published rate to leave the car 20, including a rate that starts when you check out. Offered, price unpublished 14.
Sail mornings start early. A free breakfast on site scores 10.
On the beach 6 (none of the twenty is), pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3.
Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the closer stated mileage, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. That’s why Ink 48 sits above the SpringHill Suites on 48 (its own pages say you can walk to the ship), the Fairfield by Newark Airport above the Hampton Inn next door (it gives a mileage to Cape Liberty), and TownePlace Suites above the Residence Inn Central Park and the Riu on 38: cheaper guest parking, then parking on site. The Hampton Inn LaGuardia edges the Fairfield Inn JFK on guest parking, $30 a day to $45.
What's left out is deliberate. Room rates change daily, so they aren't scored. Neither are guest-review scores — they measure a stay in general, not a sail morning.
The ranking tells you which hotel makes the morning easiest. Your dates and your budget decide the rest, so price your own night before you book the winner.
Set your cruise length. The TWA Hotel is the only one of the twenty that prints a leave-the-car rate, so here it is next to the terminals’ own parking: $45 a night at Manhattan or Brooklyn, $35 a day at Cape Liberty.
| #13 TWA Hotel | — |
| Manhattan or Brooklyn terminal, $45 a night | — |
| Cape Liberty, $35 a day | — |
The TWA Hotel is the only one of the twenty that prints a rate to leave the car: Park, Stay & Fly, valet only, $80 a night for the first two nights and $60 after, per its parking page (its FAQ still says $65 and $45). We count your hotel night plus every cruise night; it runs no ride to any terminal, so its row reads “+ ride”. Manhattan and Brooklyn charge $45 a night at the terminal, counted per night; Cape Liberty charges $35 a day per Royal Caribbean ($30 per Celebrity), counting the day you park and the day you leave. Hotels that sell parking only inside a package, or without a price, aren’t priced. Room rates aren’t included.
For the port’s lots, lot by lot, and the off-site options, see New York cruise parking: three separate systems, compared.
We checked 57 hotels. These came closest to the top twenty, with their scores and the reason each fell short.
| Hotel | Score | Why it missed |
|---|---|---|
| Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott | 32 | On airport grounds with a free 24-hour shuttle every 15 minutes and Park Here, Fly There's 8 days of parking, airport parking with no mention of cruises; no free breakfast, and level on 32 with the Hilton, behind on its $39 parking. |
| Residence Inn by Marriott Jersey City | 31 | Above the Grove Street PATH station, with full kitchens, free breakfast and a lounge bar, but nothing for cruisers and $50 valet. |
| Hyatt House Jersey City | 31 | Free breakfast, a rooftop bar and kitchens in some rooms at Exchange Place, but nothing for cruisers and no parking rate. |
| Hampton Inn Brooklyn/Downtown | 30 | Free hot breakfast and $45 covered self-parking, but no in and out, no shuttle and no mention of the terminal. |
| Holiday Inn Express NYC Brooklyn - Sunset Park | 30 | Free breakfast, and IHG lists the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal as nearby, but parking is off site at $30 plus tax and there's no shuttle. |
| NU Hotel Brooklyn | 30 | Continental breakfast in its Guest Amenities program and luggage storage on request, on Smith Street, but no parking of its own and nothing on the terminal. |
| Quality Inn near Sunset Park | 30 | Free hot breakfast, but Choice's page gives no parking, no distance and nothing for cruisers. |
| Pod Times Square | 30 | On 42nd Street one block west of Port Authority, with a 1 PM check-out and same-day bag storage in its $29.84 facility fee, but no breakfast and off-site parking at $57. |
| Skyline Hotel | 30 | On Tenth Avenue in Hell's Kitchen, but its own website has lapsed; Travelocity and I LOVE NY describe a 10-minute walk to the terminal and a rooftop pool, which we can't score. |
| The Lodge Red Hook | 30 | The only hotel in Red Hook itself, but its own site showed us nothing but an address; booking sites put the terminal 0.7 miles away, which we can't score. |
| The Watson Hotel | 30 | On West 57th, west of Ninth, but we found no official site; Expedia lists a seasonal pool and paid breakfast, which we can't score. |
| Wyndham Garden Brooklyn Sunset Park | 23 | The Constantine Bar and Manhattan views in Sunset Park, but its page lists "continental breakfast" without saying it's free, so breakfast doesn't score; parking is $50 plus tax, and the terminal isn't mentioned. |
Not ranked: Kimpton Hotel Ink48. The name older listings use for Ink 48 Hotel, per Tripadvisor and other third-party listings; its own site shows no Kimpton or IHG branding. It's No. 1 in our top 20.; Hampton Inn Manhattan-Times Square North, 851 Eighth Avenue. Now Romer Hell's Kitchen, at the same address and phone number; Hilton's page for it returns an error. We scored it under the new name: 28, with no free breakfast on its own site.; Hilton Brooklyn New York. Now Hilton Brooklyn Downtown NYC; its old Hilton web address redirects there. We scored it: 23.; Country Inn & Suites Newark Airport. Its building at 100 International Blvd is now the Hampton Inn & Suites Newark Airport Elizabeth, per Booking.com and Tripadvisor listings. We scored it: 25.; Best Western Plus Newark Airport West. Now Aiden by Best Western Newark Airport. Its cruise shuttle and 10 days of parking appear only on a reseller's site, not Best Western's, so it scored 18.; LaGuardia Plaza Hotel. Now the DoubleTree by Hilton New York LaGuardia Airport, per Hilton's own location page. We scored it: 16.; Hotel BPM Brooklyn. Closed for renovation: its site takes no reservations and targets a reopening in Summer 2027.; Hilton New York JFK Airport. Appears closed: Hilton's page for it returns an error, and listings mark it closed.; Wyndham Garden Newark Airport. Status unclear: one booking site says it's permanently closed, and Wyndham's own page wouldn't open for us.; Holiday Inn Express New York-Brooklyn, 625 Union Street. IHG's pages for it redirect, and IHG's Brooklyn list leaves it out, though Booking.com still lists it. Not confirmed, so not scored.; Hotel Indigo Brooklyn. IHG's pages for it redirect, and IHG's Brooklyn page lists only its Williamsburg Indigo. Not confirmed, so not scored.; Crowne Plaza JFK Airport New York City. IHG's pages didn't load for us, so nothing on it is verified.; Courtyard LaGuardia Airport. Marriott's search didn't return it; we couldn't confirm it's open.; Comfort Inn Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. No current Choice hotel has that name; the old listing now points to The Lodge Red Hook, 17 Seabring St.; Hudson Plaza Motel, Bayonne. The only lodging we found in Bayonne itself, with no official site we could read, so it isn't scored.
Ten of the twenty run a free airport shuttle, and none of them runs a ride to the ship: all seven by Newark Airport, the Hampton Inn and the Fairfield Inn at JFK, and the Hampton Inn at LaGuardia. The TWA Hotel sits on JFK’s grounds, a 5-minute AirTrain ride from the terminals and free within the airport.
Royal Caribbean puts Newark 9 miles from Cape Liberty. Holland America puts JFK 25.7 miles from the Manhattan terminal and LaGuardia 16.5. Carnival’s transfer is from $44.99 a person from any of the three. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes from each airport, and the planner turns your answers into a morning.
Tours, tickets and things to do are on Booking.com. Book the day before, not sail day.

On our scoring it's Ink 48 Hotel, for Manhattan's Pier 88: the only one of the twenty whose own pages say you can walk to the terminal. It has no free breakfast and no cruise parking, though. For Cape Liberty, the SpringHill Suites by Newark Airport ties it on 48 points, with free breakfast, a free Newark Airport shuttle and parking Marriott pitches at Cape Liberty cruisers, price on request. The Embassy Suites Newark Airport is third. Best on paper, not best for everyone: the matcher above weighs your own answers.
None of our twenty publishes its own ride to a named terminal. Ink 48 is the only one whose own pages say you can walk to the ship, to Manhattan's. The Residence Inn Newark Elizabeth's Park & Cruise Package includes "transportation to-and-from the port" without naming the port, and the Hilton-brand hotels by Newark use Hilton's generic line about "select airports and cruise ports". Ask the hotel which terminal it drives to; we count only what it names. And Cape Liberty can't be reached on foot, per Celebrity.
One of the twenty prints a rate: the TWA Hotel at JFK, valet only, $80 a night for the first two nights and $60 after, sold as airport parking. Ten more offer it without a price. The SpringHill Suites by Newark Airport names Cape Liberty, and the Residence Inn Newark Elizabeth sells a Park & Cruise Package with 8 nights of parking; the rest list airport park-and-fly deals or Hilton's Park, Stay & Go, which names no port. None of the Manhattan or Brooklyn hotels offers it, and the ones that list a garage charge $40 to $85 a day while you stay.
Not on the published numbers. Manhattan and Brooklyn charge $45 a night at the terminal, $315 for a 7-night cruise. Cape Liberty is $35 a day per Royal Caribbean ($30 per Celebrity), $280 counting the day you park and the day you leave. The TWA Hotel's valet comes to $520 for the same week counting your hotel night, before a ride to the ship. The Newark hotels' packages could beat the port, but they don't print a price, so ask. Run your own numbers in the calculator above.
Seven run one from Newark: SpringHill Suites Newark Airport, Embassy Suites Newark Airport, Residence Inn Newark Elizabeth, Fairfield Newark Airport, Hampton Inn Newark Airport, DoubleTree Newark Airport and Hilton Newark Airport. Two run one from JFK: Hampton Inn JFK and Fairfield Inn JFK. One run one from LaGuardia: Hampton Inn LaGuardia. All of them are airport hotels. None of the hotels near Pier 88 or the Brooklyn terminal runs one, so from the airport it's a taxi — the TLC's flat fare is $70 plus surcharges from JFK to Manhattan — the train, or a cruise line's transfer.
Norwegian and Holland America name the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, and Carnival's transfers run to "Port NYC - Manhattan". It's Pier 88 only now: Pier 90 is retired, per Cruise Critic. Virgin Voyages has moved to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, where MSC and Cunard also sail, per their own pages. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity sail from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey. Three terminals in three places, so check your cruise documents before you book a hotel.
Few of them say. Ink 48's pages say you can walk to the Manhattan terminal, and Marriott puts the Fairfield by Newark Airport 3.0 miles from Cape Liberty. The rest give no distance to a terminal, so we place them by address. Royal Caribbean puts Newark Airport 9 miles from Cape Liberty, and Holland America puts JFK 25.7 miles from the Manhattan terminal and LaGuardia 16.5.
Hotel rates move every day and spike on busy sailing days, so any number we printed would be wrong by the time you read it. We rank on what doesn't change daily — shuttles, parking policies, breakfast — and leave the live rate to the booking site for your exact date. Price it for your own night before you assume the No. 1 is the cheap one.
