Door 28, the shuttle and the counters in YUL’s P4 lot
YUL keeps the longest counter hours we found in Montréal. Getting to them takes one extra step.
Collecting a car at YUL means a shuttle ride first. The counters sit a free shuttle hop from the terminal, and no desk waits at the Grand Quay to take the car back. Allow a little time for that hop on top of the queue.
YUL’s rental counters moved to the P4 parking lot when the Multi-Level garage closed for good; a free shuttle leaves from door 28 on the arrivals level, and returns drive straight to P4.
The airport lists the counters as open 7 AM to 1 AM daily (article dated Aug 7, 2026).
Avis and Hertz print the same window on their own pages — Enterprise lists 7 AM to 11:59 PM.
Land after 1 AM and nothing on that list is open.
Book the pick-up for 7 or later — or take a cab to the hotel and collect downtown in the morning.
Avis, Budget, Enterprise, National, Alamo and Hertz list YUL desks; off-site companies (the airport names Routes and Europcar) pick up from door 8 on the departures level after you phone them.
Avis, National, Alamo and Enterprise take keys in drop boxes after hours — useful on the way home, not on the way in.
No rental brand page we read mentions the Grand Quay or cruise passengers, and the Port’s access page mentions no rental cars.
So a car collected here goes back here — or to a downtown desk with hours of its own.
One YUL rental day against a flat-fare cab and the 747
Two of you, one rental day from YUL. Type your quote, and any app fare, into the last rows.
The rental, line by line
Our one-day arithmetic in Canadian dollars; your booking screen has the real price. The C$39 base is Discover Cars’ “from $39” for YUL, last updated Oct 2, 2026; it prints with a bare $, so it may be US dollars on your screen. GST and QST (14.975% together) are in. The airport-fee box starts at 0% because neither YUL nor any brand publishes a percentage we could read — type the one on your quote. Fuel is about 12 miles at 30 mpg and a GasWizard forecast. Any charge for returning the car downtown instead of at YUL goes in the drop box.
On those assumptions the car comes to about C$48 for the day, fuel included — almost exactly the cab’s daytime flat fare.
A tie on paper, then. The car still loses.
The cab drops you at the ship. The car leaves you at a desk uphill with your bags, then a second ride down to the quay, and that’s before any charge for returning it away from YUL.
At Discover Cars’ average of $66 a day, read as Canadian, the same rental is about C$79 — the cab wins outright.
For two people, two 747 tickets are C$22.50 plus a cab from the downtown end, and for four they’re C$45.00 plus the same cab.
At four, the tickets alone come close to the flat fare before that last cab — so the cab wins if the bags fit one car.
The YUL concession percentage nobody publishes
Avis says a percentage of an airport desk’s revenue goes to the airport, and it recovers that from you. At YUL we couldn’t find the size of the cut on any primary page.
We found no customer facility charge for YUL on any airport or brand page.
Avis Canada lists an airport concession recovery fee without a percentage, and Enterprise’s YUL page shows none; a travel-guide site prints a range we couldn’t confirm anywhere primary (the same page has the counters in the wrong garage). We don’t guess: the calculator starts at 0% for you to type the percentage on your quote.
That travel-guide range is the kind of number that spreads from page to page — we left it out of every sum here, on purpose.
Expect it as its own line on the quote. Find it, and type that figure into the airport-fee box above — the total updates on the spot.
Over a week at C$39 with nothing added for the airport, a YUL car is about C$314 with tax, our arithmetic.
Whatever the concession line says sits on top of that.
The provincial taxes are identical at YUL and downtown — the hub’s tax table sets them out, with the Québec daily duty we couldn’t find.
“From $39” at YUL is a Nissan Versa, in a currency the page doesn’t print
A “from” price is the lowest-priced car on the lowest-priced day the search turned up. Yours will differ, and here the currency might too.
Discover Cars showed YUL rentals “from $39” a day (a Nissan Versa through Dollar at $38.81), last updated Oct 2, 2026; the price prints with a bare $, though the page’s travel notes say the currency is CAD, so a US visitor may see US$.
The same page gave an average of $66 a day, last updated the same day.
Read both as the floor of a search, not the price of your trip.
A Versa is a compact, sized for a couple’s bags rather than a family’s, and the seats-and-bags section lists the bigger classes.
Before you compare a YUL total with anything, check which currency the search is quoting — at C$39 the car roughly ties the flat fare, and a US-dollar rate converts to more than that.
Deposits and Discover Cars’ Full Coverage are the other lines that move — our Discover Cars review walks through both.
The 747 bus from YUL, and the taxi it still needs at the end
The 747 costs a fraction of the cab, and it stops short of the water. The last stretch is on you.
The STM’s 747 bus costs C$11.25 a person, coins only on board, and the ticket doubles as a 24-hour pass for the bus, métro, exo trains and REM in Zone A; Tourisme Montréal says it runs 24/7, every 10 to 20 minutes.
It ends downtown (its Berri-UQAM stop moved to René-Lévesque at Berri on Jan 26, 2026) with no Old Montréal stop, and Holland America says you’ll need a taxi from there to the pier.
YUL posts a flat taxi fare to downtown of C$49.45 from 5 AM to 11 PM and C$56.70 overnight, and the Port says the daytime flat fare covers the Grand Quay; neither says whether tax or tip is in.
Uber and Lyft run from YUL; Tourisme Montréal says the price depends on the ride type, the trip and demand. They go in the calculator as a typed fare, since nothing is published.
The REM light rail isn’t scheduled to reach YUL before 2027, so the car-free section covers the rest of Montréal’s transit, not the airport run.
Collect at YUL only for the days past the ship
If a car belongs in the trip at all, it’s for the days around the cruise, not the ride to it.
Search YUL for those days, then compare a downtown desk on the hub’s desk cards with the taxes in. Coming off the ship rather than a plane? The after-cruise page covers that morning.
- Pick-up: YUL, P4 lot counters

YUL, the P4 counters and the quay: questions

Holland America puts YUL about 13 miles (21 km) and 30 minutes from the port, depending on traffic. Our free-flow routing gives 12.4 miles and about 25 minutes to the Grand Quay.
Where are the rental car counters at Montréal-Trudeau airport?
In the P4 parking lot, since the Multi-Level garage closed. A free shuttle leaves from door 28 on the arrivals level, and car returns drive straight to P4.
How much is a taxi from YUL to the Port of Montréal?
YUL posts a flat fare to downtown of C$49.45 from 5 AM to 11 PM and C$56.70 overnight, and the Port says the daytime flat fare covers the Grand Quay. Neither says whether tax or tip is included.
Does the 747 bus go to Old Montréal or the cruise port?
No. The 747 ends downtown at René-Lévesque and Berri, with no Old Montréal stop, and Holland America says you’ll need a taxi from there to the pier. The C$11.25 fare is coins only on board.
What airport fees are added to a car rental at YUL?
We found no customer facility charge. Avis names an airport concession recovery fee without a percentage, and Enterprise’s YUL page shows none; the only range we saw came from a travel guide we couldn’t confirm. Read the line on your quote.
Are car rental counters at YUL open 24 hours?
No. The airport lists the counters as open 7 AM to 1 AM daily, and Enterprise lists 7 AM to 11:59 PM. Avis, National, Alamo and Enterprise take keys in drop boxes after hours.
