Barcelona’s terminals in 2026 and 2027: what’s closing, what’s coming
Most distances on this page run to Terminal D. Whether D, C or WTC South is yours changes the cab ride by a few minutes, not the decision.
Barcelona has seven cruise terminals today — six on the Moll Adossat, one at the World Trade Center. A signed plan changes that.
The city–port agreement of July 17, 2025 schedules the current Terminal C for demolition at the end of 2026, with a new public Terminal C working from 2028; betevé, the city’s broadcaster, reported in June 2026 that the demolition starts in November; the port’s own Terminal C page still called it operational when we read it on Oct 3, 2026.
The same agreement closes the WTC South (Barcelona wharf) terminal at the end of 2026; the port site still listed it as operating on Oct 3, 2026.
Two terminals have end-of-2026 dates — and port pages that still list both as open.
A and B are due for demolition in the second half of 2028. Terminal G on the Adossat wharf is under construction, opening in 2027; a July 2025 CruiseHive report says it is expected for Royal Caribbean. The plan takes Barcelona from seven cruise terminals to five.
For a 2027 sailing, your terminal letter may be one that doesn’t exist today — or a familiar one that’s gone.
Trust the boarding documents your line sends close to the date, not last year’s blog post — and not this page either, if they disagree.
The line-by-line picture is on our Barcelona cruise port page.
Three rental brands we could read at El Prat, T1 and T2
The cards for all ten Barcelona desks live on the hub. These are the airport three.
| Brand | Where | Hours | After hours | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sixt | T1 arrivals hall; T2 arrivals hall, section B | Open 24 hours, every day | 24-hour return | Checked Oct 3, 2026 |
| Avis | T1 Rent A Car hall, car park level 1; T2 Rent A Car hall | 7 AM to midnight, daily | 24-hour drop-off | Checked Oct 3, 2026 |
| Enterprise | T1 desks a short walk from arrivals; T2 Zone B | 7:30 AM to 11:59 PM, daily | Drop-boxes in the T1 and T2 car parks | Checked Oct 3, 2026 |
From each brand’s own BCN page, read Oct 3, 2026. Aena’s rental page didn’t render for our reader. — Checked Oct 3, 2026
The airport runs a free 24-hour shuttle between T1 and T2. Land at the “wrong” terminal and it costs you a ride — not a rebooking.
Only Sixt never closes. Land after midnight and it’s a Sixt pick-up or a cab.
Discover Cars’ Barcelona airport page showed “from $10.40 per day” on Oct 3, 2026, for a Toyota Aygo or similar through Click&Rent; its city page said $10.41. The same page notes some suppliers meet you by shuttle while Goldcar sits in the terminal.
A Toyota Aygo is a price signal, not a cruise car. Four adults and four suitcases need the bigger class the calculator suggests.
El Prat to the ship: one rental day against the T-4 cab and the buses
Change the people, the rate and the pump price. The comparison redraws.
The rental, line by line
Euros, by our arithmetic — your quote decides. The €40 (about US$45) base is our placeholder against Discover Cars’ $10.40 BCN “from” rate, which was a Toyota Aygo. Spanish quotes normally include the 21% VAT, so we add none; that’s our assumption. Nothing we read prints an El Prat airport fee, so that box starts at 0%. Fuel covers 8.8 miles rounded to 9, our routing to WTC South, which sits about 0.6 miles from Sixt Paral·lel-Port; the pump-price box is blank because we couldn’t read an official Spanish fuel price for Oct 2026. Carnival’s dollar fare is converted at the ECB rate. No car-seat price was found, so put any seat charge in the coverage box.
With the fuel box blank and no drop charge, our €40 (about US$45) placeholder day comes to €40 against €46 for the cab.
For two, the Aerobús and Cruise Bus come to about €22.50 (about US$25), and Carnival’s transfer to about €71 (about US$80), our conversion of its dollar price.
Carnival sells a BCN-to-pier transfer from $39.99 a person, for flights landing by noon; it runs 10 AM to 1 PM, takes about an hour and isn’t refundable.
Virgin Voyages sells a private Mercedes E-Class from $160 or a van from $195, per vehicle, from the terminal to the airport. Royal Caribbean says every port has airport transfers at an extra fee; NCL wants them booked at least four days ahead; neither shows a price. Princess has a uniformed rep meet you at the airport, with no price on the page.
The car only wins when it’s doing something else that day — if it isn’t, take the cab.
How far El Prat really is from the cruise terminals
The official answers range from 10 miles to 20. They can’t all be right.
Official figures for the airport run disagree: Creuers says about 15 km, Royal Caribbean “approximately 10 miles” and about 40 minutes by the Ronda Litoral, and the Palacruceros site “about 20 miles”.
Our routing sits at the low end. It says 8.8 miles (14.2 km) to WTC South, 10.0 to Terminal B, 10.3 to Terminal D and about 10.4 to the MSC terminal, whose map point is approximate.
That puts every terminal near 10 miles — and 17 to 24 minutes on roads with nobody else on them.
Royal Caribbean’s directions take the Ronda Litoral and follow signs for “PUERTO”.
Plan on Royal Caribbean’s 40 minutes, not our 24.
Flying into Girona or Reus for a Barcelona cruise
Budget flights land 60-odd miles away. The car question changes there.
Girona–Costa Brava (GRO), mainly Ryanair, sits about 74 km (46 mi) north of central Barcelona, per Wikipedia. Our routing puts it 63 miles (101.4 km) from Terminal D, 1 hr 22 min without traffic.
Reus (REU) is about 103 km (64 mi) away and 8 km from Tarragona, per Wikipedia. It’s 64.9 miles (104.4 km) from Terminal D by our routing, 1 hr 37 min.
At these distances the rental starts to look reasonable — and a one-way into Barcelona is the shape of it.
We didn’t read rental desks or one-way fees at either airport. Our one-way rental guide covers how drop fees work, and the Barcelona airports page compares all three for flights.
Dollar figures use the European Central Bank reference rate of Oct 2, 2026 (about $1.12 to the euro); your card’s rate will differ.
Book an El Prat car only for a day that needs one
If the car is for Montserrat or the coast, collect it at El Prat and return it in town the evening before you sail.
If it’s only for the ship, close this tab and take the T-4. The Discover Cars review walks through its deposits and add-ons.

El Prat to the ship: the questions
Which car rental companies are at Barcelona airport?
We read Sixt (T1 and T2 section B, open 24 hours), Avis (T1 and T2, 7 AM to midnight) and Enterprise (T1 and T2 Zone B, 7:30 AM to 11:59 PM). Discover Cars also lists other suppliers, some reached by shuttle.
How far is Barcelona airport from the cruise terminals?
About 10.3 miles (16.6 km) to Terminal D and 8.8 to WTC South by our routing. Royal Caribbean says about 10 miles and 40 minutes; the Palacruceros site’s “about 20 miles” doesn’t match.
Is Barcelona Terminal C closing?
The port’s July 2025 agreement with the city schedules the current Terminal C for demolition at the end of 2026 and a new public Terminal C from 2028; betevé reported in June 2026 that demolition starts in November. The port’s own Terminal C page still called it operational on Oct 3, 2026.
Does Carnival offer a transfer from Barcelona airport to the ship?
Yes, from $39.99 a person, for flights landing by noon; it runs 10 AM to 1 PM, takes about an hour, and isn’t refundable, per Carnival’s page read Oct 3, 2026.
Is it cheaper to rent a car or take a taxi from Barcelona airport to the port?
For the ship alone, the cab is simpler. The official T-4 is a fixed €46; a one-day rental at a €40 placeholder rate is close before fuel, but the car then has to be returned in town because it can’t wait at the terminal.
