Twenty minutes in a car, if nothing is in the way
Both terminals are in the south, and the way in crosses gantries we couldn’t price.
Changi is on the east end of the island, and both piers are in the south. By our routing the run to Marina Bay is 12.7 miles (20.4 km), 20 minutes on empty roads. HarbourFront is 15.6 miles (25.1 km), 25 minutes.
Disney gives 20 to 30 minutes for the Marina Bay run, and Holland America about 27 km and 40 minutes. Our figure leaves traffic out — theirs is the one to plan on.
The gantries on the way in charge by time band, and we couldn’t get their rate — there’s no one ERP figure to put on this run. The hub page has the dated samples.
At the pier end, Disney’s embarkation page sends luggage drop for taxi, ride-hailing or personal vehicle to Level 2, and for bus, coach or MRT to Level 1. That’s Disney’s wording, not a rule we saw from the terminal — so treat it as a pointer.
Set the sat-nav for the terminal your boarding pass names, not for the city.
A car for one run to the ship, against a taxi at about S$29
Two people, one day, a car from Changi. Overwrite any box with your own quote.
The rental, line by line
Our arithmetic in Singapore dollars; your booking screen has the real total. The S$200 base rate is our assumption: Discover Cars’ Changi page showed $185 a day and a $218 average on Oct 5, 2026, its city page an average of $204, and search titles said from $92, all with a bare $ sign. We assume the quote includes the 9% GST. No brand prints an airport fee we could read, so that box starts at 0%. We read no Singapore pump price, so type what you see per litre and the fuel line converts it at 3.785 litres a US gallon and 30 mpg. We found no child-seat price, so the seat stepper adds nothing; put any seat charge in the coverage box. ERP gantry charges and parking aren’t included. Leaving the car in town may bring a drop charge no brand prints.
At an assumed S$200 a day, one day for two people comes to about S$200 (about US$155) before fuel, our arithmetic. The run is under half a US gallon at 30 mpg, so the pump price barely moves it.
The taxi tops out near S$29, which leaves the car about S$171 dearer — and then it has to wait somewhere while you sail.
HarbourFront’s car park prints S$2.80 an hour. At that rate a week is about S$470 (about US$365), and we couldn’t see a daily cap. The hub page has the parking table.
The private-transfer row is Viator’s US$68 a group, about S$87 at the ECB rate. Type your own fares into the MRT and cruise-line rows and the comparison fills in.
For two people heading to the ship, the taxi wins. Rent only if the car has days of work ahead of it.
Nine o’clock is the number that matters at Changi
Collecting a car at Changi starts with knowing which building you’re standing in.
Changi has four terminals plus Jewel, and the rental counters are spread across them — not gathered in one hall.
Sixt’s counter is in Terminal 1, opposite belts 16 to 20 near Jewel. It runs 9 AM to 9 PM every day — and lists a 24-hour return at Jewel Basement 5, Lobby B.
Kayak, a third-party aggregator, puts Hertz in Terminal 3’s car park 3a, Avis at Terminals 2 and 3 from 9 AM to 5 PM and at Terminal 4 from 7 AM to 11 PM, Thrifty at 60 Airport Boulevard, and Europcar and Budget in other terminals. We couldn’t confirm any of that with the brands — it’s a lead, not a booking.
Every desk and its hours are on the hub page.
A flight that lands before 9 AM means a wait, so plan the first hour around coffee, not keys.
The train from Changi, and where it leaves you
It costs a few dollars a head. The last stretch to Marina Bay is the part to confirm.
From Changi, the airport’s page says to change at Tanah Merah (EW4) onto the East West Line or at Expo (DT35) onto the Downtown Line. A third-party blog put the whole run to Marina South Pier near 60 minutes.
Adult card fares from Dec 27, 2025 run S$1.28 off-peak for the first 3.2 km up to S$2.57 over 40.2 km. We didn’t look up the Changi–Marina South Pier fare itself — type it into the calculator’s MRT row.
Contactless Visa, Mastercard, NETS and Amex cards and mobile wallets work through SimplyGo, no registration.
Changi’s two pages disagree on train times — the arrivals page gives first trains near 5:20 AM Monday–Saturday and 5:47 AM Sundays, last near 11:50 PM; the leaving page says 5:31 AM and a last train at 11:18 PM or 12:06 AM by direction.
A looped shuttle links Marina South Pier MRT station to the terminal “on select cruise days”, and no fare or hours appear on any page we read.
HarbourFront’s page puts the trip at 40 to 50 minutes by MRT, 40 by bus and 25 to 30 by taxi. Check the live timetable on the day — and after a late landing, take the taxi or an app.
The other direction: a car you owe Changi, or a ride you don’t
The hub page has every desk’s hours. This is just the Changi end of the trip home.
A car you collected at Changi goes back to Changi — not to the pier. Sixt’s page lists the return at Jewel Basement 5, Lobby B, round the clock, and a parking fee applies if you return at another terminal.
The return journey has a different pickup surcharge: Marina Bay Cruise Centre adds S$5 from 7 AM to before 5 PM, or S$3 otherwise. The Changi pickup surcharge does not apply when arriving at the airport. Traffic, peak periods and ERP tolls can change the total.
Princess offers an airport-to-ship transfer with no price, and sets the earliest flight home at 6 hours after the ship’s arrival and the latest arrival at 4 hours before departure.
Princess is the only line whose guideline we found — for any other line, ask before you book the flight.
If the sum still says rent, collect on the day you’ll need it
Pick the car up when the driving starts, not on arrival day — and bring the permit.
The licence and left-side rules are on the should-you-rent page.
- Changi and city offices together
- Check the currency on the booking screen before you pay
- Many companies side by side
- Cancel free up to 48 hrs before pickup
US dollar figures convert at the European Central Bank’s Oct 5, 2026 reference rate, roughly 78 cents to the Singapore dollar.
Changi to the ship: questions
How long is the drive from Changi to Marina Bay Cruise Centre?
By our routing, 12.7 miles (20.4 km) from Terminal 1 to Marina Bay, 20 minutes on empty roads, and 15.6 miles (25.1 km) to HarbourFront, 25 minutes. Disney gives 20 to 30 minutes for the Marina Bay run.
What should a taxi from Changi to the cruise terminal cost?
About S$24–25 off-peak by our arithmetic from LTA’s tariff — a distance-only estimate including the Changi pickup surcharge, before waiting time, ERP tolls, booking or payment fees. The cruise-centre pickup surcharge does not apply on arrival. Changi’s page gives S$25–45 to the city, and Holland America’s port page says about S$32.
Is any rental counter open at Changi before 9 AM?
Sixt’s counter opens at 9 AM per its own page. A Kayak listing puts Avis’s Terminal 4 desk at 7 AM, and we couldn’t confirm that with Avis.
Where does a Sixt car go back at Changi?
Sixt’s page lists Terminal 1, Jewel Basement 5, Lobby B, with a 24-hour return service and a parking fee if you return at another terminal.
Is the MRT a sensible way from Changi to the ship?
It works, with a change at Tanah Merah or Expo. A third-party blog put the run to Marina South Pier near 60 minutes, and HarbourFront’s page says 40 to 50 minutes from Changi. We didn’t find an official time for Marina South Pier.
How do I get from Marina South Pier MRT to the terminal?
A looped shuttle runs from Marina South Pier MRT on select cruise days, per Singapore’s tourism board. We found no fare or hours.
