Every number below comes directly from Zuiderdam's, Oosterdam's, Westerdam's, and Noordam's own dining guides, linked throughout this page. Eight categories make up each ship's total — Included Dining (25%), Specialty Dining (20%), Variety (15%), Quality Ceiling (10%), Value (10%), Casual & Quick Dining (10%), Special Experiences (5%), and Suite & Restricted Dining (5%) — each judged on its own merits rather than averaged up from the venue scores you'll see further down.
Unlike most ship classes this project has compared, there is no ranking to build toward here. Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam, and Noordam run an identical current dining product, and this page states that plainly rather than manufacturing a "best ship" framing where none is supported. Ship age is stated as fact throughout — 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006 — but it never functions as a scoring justification. A score difference in this project's methodology requires evidence of an actual current dining-product difference: a different roster, a different menu, a different included-versus-paid structure, or a different access program. None of that exists across these four ships today.
This page also isn't hunting for a gap that isn't there. Where two ships in a different class share a published headline but differ underneath, this project's other class guides say so. Here, the exact weighted totals match down to the thousandth — 7.260 on all four — because the underlying product genuinely is identical, not because the difference was rounded away.
Why they match — a strong core, a thin bench, and surprisingly good event dining
Vista Class dining is best understood as a trade: a strong Holland America core, a thinner permanent specialty bench than the line's other classes, and event dining that's genuinely better than that thin bench would suggest.
The stable, regularly-available architecture is identical on all four ships. The Dining Room runs complimentary full-service dinner; Lido Market covers the buffet and also houses Holland America's Caputo Neapolitan-style pizza program — served inside the Lido Market rather than at a standalone venue, a real structural difference from Holland America's Signature Class ships (Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam), which run a separate New York Pizza venue. Dive-In, Explorations Café, once-per-cruise Afternoon/Classic High Tea, and a complimentary standard 24-hour Room Service menu round out the included tier, ship for ship.
The permanent specialty bench, by contrast, is genuinely lean: just Pinnacle Grill (steakhouse) and Canaletto (Italian) stand nightly on any of the four ships. There is no permanent Tamarind, no Rudi's Sel de Mer, and no standalone Morimoto restaurant or sushi bar anywhere on Vista Class — that's the honest reason Specialty Dining reads a modest 6.9, identically, across the class.
What the class loses in permanent-restaurant depth, it earns back through genuinely good event dining. The Morimoto by Sea Pop-Up is guaranteed at least once per cruise, on any sailing length, fleet-wide. Koningstafel is a single, exceptional evening — a private cocktail reception, a galley tour, a six-course dinner, a chef presentation, and wine pairings — available on qualifying longer sailings of 14 days or more, subject to itinerary and availability. Those two products are why Special Experiences reads a strong 8.1 and Quality Ceiling reads 8.0, intentionally very different numbers from Specialty Dining's 6.9: they describe different things, a thin everyday bench and a genuinely surprising ceiling when a ship reaches for it, and this guide never lets one explain away the other.
That's also why the four-way tie is honest rather than convenient. The stable, regularly-available architecture above is equivalent across all four ships. Itinerary-specific programming — Taste of Tamarind's regional pop-up appearances and Koningstafel's 14+ night sailing-length requirement — doesn't create a permanent ranking, because neither is tied to which of the four ships you book; both are tied to which sailing you book. The occasional Seafood Boil pop-up is different: it's a real, scored roster item, identical at 7.0 on all four ships, not an unscored exclusion.

Suite & Restricted Dining is the class's lightest category at 5.8, identically on all four ships. Club Orange here is priority seating in the regular Dining Room with an expanded menu — a genuine, real benefit, but never a dedicated or private restaurant, and never described as one on this page. It's the identical product and identical score found on Holland America's Signature Class ships, and meaningfully lighter than the dedicated Club Orange restaurant aboard Pinnacle Class (Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam), scored 8.7. A destination-specific Seafood Boil occasionally appears as itinerary programming across the fleet — a real, if modest, current product, scored 7.0 identically on all four ships and never a ship-to-ship differentiator.

The Dining Room, Lido Market (pizza included), Dive-In, Explorations Café, and once-per-cruise High Tea run the identical mixed-pricing model on all four ships — the free-versus-paid split doesn't change based on which Vista Class ship you book.
Both restaurants carry the identical cover-charge structure and the identical venue score on all four ships — there's no version of the Vista Class where one of these two is stronger than on her sisters. Neither Rudi's Sel de Mer nor a permanent Tamarind exists on any of the four, so this pairing is the strongest traditional option available here.
