The Nicest Night Before the Ship

Philadelphia’s top-rated hotels are in Center City, not by the ship. The city’s only AAA Five Diamond, the Four Seasons, is about 10.3 road miles from the terminal by our routing, and the nearest of our seven Four Diamond splurges, the Ritz-Carlton, about 9.5. Below, what each one adds and what it leaves you to arrange on sail morning.

What kind of splurge is it?

We looked for the nicest places to stay before a cruise from Philadelphia. None of the seven makes our top 20. The terminal is beside the airport, and all seven are in Center City or University City — about 9.5 to 12.4 road miles away by our routing. Choose the kind of night below, not the hotel, and the match lights up.

All seven are on AAA’s 2026 lists: the Four Seasons as Philadelphia’s only Five Diamond, the other six as Four Diamonds. Forbes Travel Guide rates the Four Seasons and The Rittenhouse Four-Star, and nobody else of the seven.

Splurge the night, and plan the morning

None of the seven runs a shuttle to the ship or prints a distance to it. So the numbers are ours, not theirs — road routes with no traffic: the Ritz-Carlton about 9.5 miles, The Rittenhouse about 10, the Westin and the Four Seasons about 10.3, the Inn at Penn about 10.4, the W about 11.7, and the Logan about 12.4.

Breakfast isn’t stated as included at any of them. The Rittenhouse says plainly it isn’t — unless you book a Consortia rate.

Valet runs from $60 a day at the W and $61.25 with tax at the Inn at Penn to $72 at the Logan. None of the seven says a car can stay while you cruise — that’s the port lot’s job. The port’s own lot at the Clarion, by the airport, is $16 a day with a free shuttle to the terminal.

Norwegian, the terminal and where the ships go are in our Philadelphia cruise guide — the hotel is the easy part once you know your sail day.

FAQ

Splurge hotels FAQ

What is the nicest hotel near the Philadelphia cruise terminal?

None of Philadelphia's top-rated hotels is near it — the terminal sits beside PHL. The highest-rated in the city is the Four Seasons at Comcast Center, AAA's only Five Diamond in Philadelphia. It's about 10.3 road miles from the ship by our routing. The closest of our seven splurges is the Ritz-Carlton, about 9.5 road miles.

Is there a Forbes Five-Star hotel in Philadelphia?

Not on Forbes Travel Guide's current Philadelphia page, which rates the Four Seasons and The Rittenhouse Four-Star. Forbes does give Five Stars to the Four Seasons spa and to Jean-Georges, the restaurant, not the rooms.

Do luxury hotels in Philadelphia have a cruise shuttle?

None of our seven publishes one. From Center City it's about 9.5 to 12.4 road miles to the terminal by our routing, so book a car. The Rittenhouse's concierge arranges them, the only one of the seven that says so.

Can I park at a Philadelphia luxury hotel for the length of my cruise?

None of the seven prints a rate for it. Valet runs from $60 a day at the W and $61.25 with tax at the Inn at Penn to $72 at the Logan. The port's own lot by the airport is $16 a day, per PhilaPort, with a free shuttle to the terminal.

Is it worth staying in Center City before a Philadelphia cruise?

For a night in town, yes — it's where the rated hotels and restaurants are. For the easiest morning, no. The airport hotels are about 4 to 5 road miles from the terminal by our routing, against 10 to 12 from Center City.
