Answer five questions. The page builds the trip from them — the hotel, both rides, the car, the hour to leave and the way home. Every figure is one the hotel, the port or the company publishes. Where nobody publishes a number, you’ll see a gap, not a guess.

The Podium

The top three

No hotel we checked publishes a shuttle to the terminal. So the podium comes down to distance, breakfast and a parking offer on the hotel’s own page. The Residence Inn on Island Avenue has kitchens, a free breakfast and long-term parking to ask about. Embassy Suites and the Hampton Inn on Bartram Avenue add free breakfast to Hilton’s Park, Stay, & Go.

Getting There

From the airport to the hotel, then on to the ship

Pick how you’re arriving. The board counts what each hotel publishes, the table lights up that column, and the companies below run from the airport to the port.

The terminal sits beside PHL, so every airport hotel here is a short ride from both. Island Avenue is the airport's short side for the ship. Essington and Ridley Park sit by the port's own lot — the one at the Clarion.

Taxi from PHL

PHL
About $22 by the meter, our arithmetic

Cabs wait at Zone 5 on the S. Commercial Roadway. The PPA's $32 flat fare covers PHL to Center City only. The cruise terminal is outside that zone, so the meter runs. It charges $2.70 for the first tenth of a mile, $0.30 each tenth after, a $1.50 airport exit fee, a $13 airport minimum and a $1.45 fuel surcharge in October 2026, per the PPA.

Uber or Lyft from PHL

PHL
Not published

Rideshare pick-up is Zone 7 on the Commercial Transportation Roadway, per PHL. At the terminal, PhilaPort says drop-off is directly in front of the embarkation area, and pick-up after the cruise is at 4 Atlantic Avenue.

Norwegian’s airport transfer

PHL
Price from Norwegian

PhilaPort says guests who buy Norwegian's airport transfers ride between PHL and the terminal, and sends you to Norwegian for availability, reservations and pricing. We found no published price.

Rental car from PHL

PHL
From $55 a day on Discover Cars’ page, updated Oct 2, 2026

Discover Cars lists nine suppliers at PHL, among them Alamo, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Avis and Budget; rental shuttles use Zone 2. There's no parking at the terminal, so a rental means the port's lot at the Clarion, $16 a day.

SEPTA Airport Line

PHL
Regional Rail fares $5.00 to $13.00

Trains run every 30 minutes from Terminals A to F, about 25 minutes to Center City, with 30th Street Station on the way for Amtrak and NJ Transit. They don't go to the cruise terminal — no official page describes transit there.

Splurge
Want it nicer?

The splurge list, told straight

These twenty are ranked for an easy sail morning, not for the room — and the terminal sits beside the airport, a long way from Philadelphia’s top-rated hotels. The city’s only AAA Five Diamond is the Four Seasons at Comcast Center, about 10.3 road miles from the ship by our routing. Six more Four Diamonds, The Rittenhouse among them, sit about 9.5 to 12.4 miles out, so each has its own page here.

At a Glance

How far each pick sits from the ship

Philadelphia has one cruise terminal, the PhilaPort Cruise Terminal at 4 Atlantic Avenue, on the airport's southeast edge. The bands measure road miles from there, by our routing. Island Avenue, on the airport's east side, is the shortest drive at about 3.8 to 4.5 miles. Bartram Avenue and the terminal roads sit at about 5 to 5.4. Essington and Ridley Park run about 6.9 to 8.3, and the stadiums about 6.7 to 7. Center City is the long haul — about 9.5 to 12.4.

Five of the twenty are on Island Avenue, nine on Bartram Avenue and the airport roads, five in Essington and Ridley Park and one by the stadiums. Essington is further from the ship by road than it looks — the drive goes round the airport. The port's own lot is there, though.

How We Score

The Night-Before Score, out of 100

Five things decide how easy the night before is, and each one is scored only from what the hotel publishes on its own site or its brand’s.

If a hotel doesn't say it, it scores zero there — not a guess, zero. Travel sites, tourism listings and review sites don't count, and when a hotel’s own pages contradict each other, we score the claim as unconfirmed and tell you. Each page lists exactly what we couldn't confirm.

30pts

Distance to the ship

By band, from the terminal: Island Avenue 30; Bartram Avenue and the airport roads 25; Essington and Ridley Park 20; South Philadelphia 20; Center City 15.

25pts

Getting to the ship

Hotel-run shuttle, free or with a published price, 25. A ride only inside a package or offer 20. The hotel’s own ride with no published fare 15. The hotel says you can walk: across the street, a few blocks, or half a mile or less, 15. A ride the hotel arranges through someone else, or a shuttle company it names, 10. A shuttle that doesn’t name the terminal doesn’t count.

20pts

Parking while you sail

Published rate to leave the car 20, including a package with a published price. Offered, price unpublished 14.

10pts

Free breakfast

Sail mornings start early. A free breakfast on site scores 10, including one inside a mandatory nightly fee.

15pts

The evening before

On the beach 6 (none of the twenty is), pool 3, food or a bar on site 3, a kitchen in the room 3.

Ties are broken in order: the lower published parking rate, any stated way to the ship, free breakfast, parking on site, the closer stated mileage, the lower guest parking price, then the alphabet. On 50, SpringHill Suites goes ahead of the DoubleTree on its free breakfast. On 38, the two Extended Stay hotels split on the alphabet. On 36, Home2 Suites has the free breakfast, then Aloft and Four Points, both $25 to park, split on the alphabet. On 35 and 30, the hotel that parks free goes first. Three hotels finish on 28: the Delta's $25 parking beats the Airport Marriott's $32, and Sonesta, which doesn't print a rate, comes last. Three more finish on 23; Live! takes the twentieth place because its guests park free.

Some things are left out on purpose. Room rates change daily, so we score policies, not prices. Guest-review scores don’t count either. They measure a stay in general, not a sail morning.

The ranking says which hotel makes the morning easiest. Your dates and your budget decide the rest. Price your own night before you book the winner.

Parking Math

Where the car goes while you sail

Only one place prints a rate to leave the car for a cruise — the port’s own lot at the Clarion. That lot comes first below, then the offers to ask about, and what the two prices for the lot mean.

The port’s lot: there’s no passenger parking at the terminal. PhilaPort sends drivers to Park & Jet at the Clarion, 76 Industrial Highway, Essington: $16 a day per vehicle, prepaid by phone on 610-521-9600 from 9 AM to 3 PM, with a free shuttle to the terminal. Park & Jet’s own site prints $13.95 a day for airport web reservations — reservation only, cashless since August 24, 2026 — so ask which rate a cruise gets.

At the hotels: six more put an offer on their own pages, none of them priced. Hilton lists Park, Stay, & Go at Embassy Suites, the Hampton and the DoubleTree. Marriott lists long-term parking at the Residence Inn and Sheraton Suites, and SpringHill Suites in Ridley Park sells “Park & Cruise” by name. Each is a phone call, not yet a plan.

The weekly rate that isn’t: Delta Hotels prints $175 a week, and the Fairfield parks free — for your stay only, it says. A weekly rate isn’t a cruise rate, so neither scores.

For the options in town, see Philadelphia cruise parking, compared.

Just Missed

Six that just missed

We checked 35 hotels around PHL, in Essington and Ridley Park, by the stadiums and in Center City. These came closest, with their scores and the reason each fell short. Seven Center City splurges, from the Four Seasons to the Inn at Penn, are on the splurge list.

HotelScoreWhy it missed
Holiday Inn Philadelphia Arpt-Stadium Area23Penrose Avenue by the stadiums, with a 24-hour PHL shuttle every 30 minutes and $15 parking — but no pool, adult breakfast unpriced, and parking that isn't free, so Live! takes the twentieth spot on the tie-break.
Courtyard Philadelphia South at The Navy Yard23The old cruise terminal's hotel, by the closed Navy Yard pier. Today it's about 6.7 road miles from 4 Atlantic Avenue by our routing, with paid breakfast, $30 parking and no shuttle.
Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing21An indoor pool and Keating's on the Delaware, but $57.58 self-parking and about 10.2 road miles from the ship.
Philadelphia Marriott Downtown18By Reading Terminal Market, but valet at $72.58 a day and about 11.7 road miles from the terminal.
Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia Downtown18By City Hall with The Bauer downstairs; no free breakfast, valet $70, about 12.4 road miles out.
Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown18Logan Square, $53 self-parking and $69 valet, about 12.2 road miles from the ship.

Not ranked: Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Philadelphia Airport. Read only on an unusual Wyndham mirror page; we couldn't confirm it's open and bookable, so we didn't score it. Quality Hotel Philadelphia Airport. Formerly the Wyndham Garden; everything we found came from Expedia, not Choice's own page, so there was nothing of the hotel's to score. Holiday Inn Express Philadelphia Airport, Essington. On PHL's January 2024 list, but every IHG page for it redirected away — we couldn't confirm it's open.

Flying In

Landing the day before?

Fourteen of the twenty run a free PHL shuttle. The Hampton runs every 30 minutes around the clock, La Quinta every 30 minutes by reservation, and the Airport Marriott connects to Terminal B. None of them runs to the ship.

The terminal is next door to the airport — PhilaPort calls it adjacent. A cab runs on the meter, about $22 from Terminal B by our arithmetic, and rideshares pick up at Zone 7. The Getting There table shows what every hotel publishes.

FAQ

Pre-cruise hotel FAQ

Which hotel ranks first for the night before a Philadelphia cruise?

On our scoring it's the Residence Inn Philadelphia Airport, on Island Avenue. Every suite has a full kitchen. Breakfast is free, there's an indoor pool and a bar, and Marriott lists long-term parking to ask about. The terminal is about 4.4 road miles away by our routing. Embassy Suites is second with a made-to-order breakfast, and the Hampton Inn third; both list Hilton's Park, Stay, & Go.

Where does my Philadelphia cruise leave from?

Philadelphia has one cruise terminal: the PhilaPort Cruise Terminal, 4 Atlantic Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19153 — Entrance A — in Tinicum Township beside PHL, not the old Navy Yard terminal that closed in 2011. PhilaPort asks you not to arrive before 9:30 AM.

Is the Philadelphia cruise terminal at the Navy Yard?

Not any more. The old terminal at the Navy Yard opened in 1998 and closed in 2011, per Wikipedia. Norwegian sails from the PhilaPort Cruise Terminal at 4 Atlantic Avenue, beside PHL — which is why our list leans to the airport, not the stadiums.

Should I stay by the airport or in Center City before a Philadelphia cruise?

By the airport, for the morning. The terminal is beside PHL. The Island Avenue and Bartram Avenue hotels are about 3.8 to 5.4 road miles from it by our routing, and fourteen of our twenty run a free PHL shuttle. Center City is about 10 to 12 road miles out — worth it for a night in town, not for an easy check-in.

Can I leave my car at a Philadelphia hotel while I cruise?

Only one has a rate in print. That's the port's own lot, Park & Jet at the Clarion, $16 a day per PhilaPort with a free shuttle to the terminal. Six hotels mention an offer — one you'd have to ask about. Hilton's Park, Stay, & Go is at Embassy Suites, the Hampton and the DoubleTree. The Residence Inn and Sheraton Suites list long-term parking, and SpringHill Suites in Ridley Park sells "Park & Cruise". None prints a price.

Which Philadelphia cruise hotels have a free airport shuttle?

Fourteen of our twenty run a free shuttle from PHL: Residence Inn Airport, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn Airport, SpringHill Suites Ridley Park, DoubleTree Airport, Sheraton Suites, Clarion Hotel, Home2 Suites Ridley Park, Aloft Airport, Four Points Airport, Microtel Airport, La Quinta Airport, Delta Hotels Airport and Sonesta Select. Otherwise it's a cab from Zone 5 on the meter, about $22 to the terminal from Terminal B by our arithmetic. Uber and Lyft pick up at Zone 7.

How do I get from PHL to the cruise terminal?

A cab, a rideshare or Norwegian's transfer. The PPA's $32 flat fare covers Center City only. A cab to the terminal runs on the meter — about $22 from Terminal B, our arithmetic from the PPA tariff over our 5.4-mile routing. Rideshares pick up at Zone 7. Norwegian sells transfers, but PhilaPort sends you to Norwegian for the price.

Which cruise lines sail from Philadelphia?

Only Norwegian. PhilaPort calls the terminal an exclusive homeport for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, under an agreement through March 31, 2033. Norwegian Jewel restarted Philadelphia cruising on April 16, 2026. Norwegian Pearl takes over from November 2026, and Norwegian Gem arrives in 2028.

Why don't you show room prices?

Hotel rates move every day and spike on busy sailing days. Any number we printed would be wrong by the time you read it. We rank on what doesn't change daily — shuttles, parking policies, breakfast — and leave the live rate to the booking site, on your date, not ours.
