Hertz’s page lists Mon-Sun, 0500-2400. Minimum age and one-way fee aren’t on it.
About 7.5 road miles to the cruise terminal by our routing, with no return point there.
Its page prints no after-hours return.
Rental Cars · Brisbane · Pinkenba cruise terminal
The Brisbane cruise terminal sits at Pinkenba, beside the river mouth, and it has no rental desk, no public transport and no shuttle to town. The desks are at the airport, 7.5 miles away by our routing, so a car here is something you collect somewhere else and park or return somewhere else. This page is for the traveller who has decided to drive: who opens when, what the tolls and the car park add, and the one long drive worth a day.
Brisbane’s terminal was built for the biggest ships, which is why it sits where the water is deep and the town is far.
The terminal is at 1 Cruise Terminal Drive, Pinkenba, also called Luggage Point. The Port of Brisbane puts it about 12 km from the airport and 21 km from the CBD, and says plainly that no public transport serves it.
The port’s FAQ adds the two facts that decide a rental — no onsite car rental, and no shuttle buses between the terminal and the airport or the CBD. There are no storage lockers either — bags go straight to the baggage drop in the plaza.
Taxis and rideshares work from a rank and a pickup zone about 120 m from the entrance, down a covered walkway. The port asks you not to book a rideshare until you’re outside the building.
GPS can trip over the new street address. The port says to follow Marine Road, which becomes Cruise Terminal Drive.
That leaves three ways a car meets this terminal — you drive in and leave it in a Wilson car park, you drop passengers and take the car away, or you return it somewhere else and ride the last stretch. The should-you-rent page prices the rides, and the airport page works out the airport run.
Hertz, Avis, Budget and Sixt each print hours. Cruise passengers need the earliest and the latest.
Hertz’s page lists Mon-Sun, 0500-2400. Minimum age and one-way fee aren’t on it.
About 7.5 road miles to the cruise terminal by our routing, with no return point there.
Its page prints no after-hours return.
Avis’s page lists Sun to Fri 5:30 AM to 12:00 AM and Sat 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM, minimum age 21 with a licence held 12 months.
About 7.5 road miles to the cruise terminal, our routing. Younger-driver surcharges may apply.
Its page lists after-hours return round the clock.
Budget’s page says renters must be 25 or over for standard rates, with restrictions and fees under 25. It says one-way hires to other Queensland destinations are available.
About 7.5 road miles to the cruise terminal, our routing. We read no one-way fee.
We didn’t read an after-hours return on its page.
Sixt’s page lists Monday-Friday 06:00-22:00 and Saturday 06:00-21:00, 24-hour returns, minimum age 21 (some categories higher), and it says an IDP or translation may be required.
About 7.5 road miles to the cruise terminal, our routing. One-way hires are available — the page prints no fee.
The only desk besides Avis whose page promises a round-the-clock return.
The airport’s page says several car hire companies operate there, and an aggregator puts the international desks on Level 2 of the arrivals hall and the domestic ones on Level 1 near baggage claim. Confirm each brand on its own page, since the aggregator says to.
Europcar and Thrifty list Brisbane Airport too, but the pages we read gave no hours for either, so we print none. Local firms such as Bargain, East Coast, Everything Fleet and Redspot appear on aggregator lists — we read none of their own pages.
The Enterprise page we read for its Brisbane Airport office says the operation would be temporarily closed from Feb 1, 2026. We couldn’t confirm what has changed since, so we list no Enterprise desk.
No brand page prints a one-way fee, and none says it delivers to the terminal. Sixt and Budget say one-way hires are available.
The terminal has no return point, so a car collected at the airport comes back somewhere else, and that somewhere decides the bill. The one-way guide covers the general case.
Set the day and the hour, and read which counters would be staffed.
Pick the day and the time you expect to reach the counter. Hertz opens at 5 AM and the others by 6 AM, so a morning landing rarely waits long.
It’s the evening that matters.
Sixt shuts at 10 PM on weekdays and 9 PM on Saturdays, and Avis and Budget stay to midnight Sunday to Friday but close at 10 PM on Saturdays. Both Avis and Sixt print a round-the-clock return on their own pages.
After the cruise the question flips, and every desk here is open by 6 AM, so a morning return is safe on paper — an afternoon one is worth a call.
The tolls are small. Paying them late — that’s what costs money.
| Toll road | Price for a car | Source and date | Status |
|---|---|---|---|

| AirportlinkM7 | No price printed | Two Linkt pages differ by exactly double; unresolved | Conflict |
Linkt’s toll and fee changes page, read Oct 6, 2026, as summarised by our fetch tool. Checked Oct 6, 2026
Brisbane has no toll booths. Everything runs through Linkt and has to be settled within 3 days of the trip — a rule, not a courtesy.
The roads are the Gateway and Logan motorways, Clem7, the Go Between Bridge, Legacy Way, AirportlinkM7 and the Toowoomba Bypass.
The Queensland government tells renters to clarify toll arrangements with the rental company before they drive, and warns that a plate number and state may be needed.
Avis, Budget and Sixt pass the toll to your card through Linkt and add A$3.30 for every day you use a toll road. Sixt lets you use your own tag.
We didn’t read Hertz, Thrifty or Europcar, so ask.
A fee, not a toll: Linkt’s July 2026 list also prints a Toll Notice fee of A$10.81 and a Demand Notice fee of A$30.28, which we read as the cost of missing the 3-day window — an expensive way to forget.
We print no AirportlinkM7 price. Its December 2025 notice and Linkt’s pricing page give figures that differ by exactly double for the same stretch, and we couldn’t tell which applies to a car.
Look at the live page the day you drive, not at ours.
We also couldn’t confirm whether any toll road lies on the airport-to-terminal run, and we couldn’t read Linkt’s visitor-pass prices. Ask the brand which tolls your route crosses — before you leave the counter.
If the car stays at Pinkenba, the car park is the bill that matters.
| Wilson car park | 1 day | 7 days | 14 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| P1, 50–220 m, prepaid only | A$46 | A$164 | A$238 |
| P2, 250–400 m, open air, prepaid only | A$34 | A$123 | A$179 |
| P3, 420–500 m, prepaid plus a few drive-up bays | A$31 | A$111 | A$161 |
Wilson Parking’s own pages, read Oct 6, 2026, prepaid online. The pages print a bare $ sign, which we read as Australian dollars. Checked Oct 6, 2026
The port says the car parks open to the public only on cruise ship days. Wilson says prepaying doesn’t guarantee a space — and its 900-plus bays are paid, not free.
P3 adds A$12 for each day after 14 and also takes limited drive-up cars at higher rates, a printed range of A$34 to A$251 for one to fourteen days. P1 and P2 are prepaid only.
Park N Cruise, an off-site Wilson lot at 142 Main Beach Road, runs from A$40 for a day to A$222 for fifteen, prepaid, with a free return shuttle. Its page says the last shuttle to the terminal leaves at 2 PM and the lot opens 6 AM to 2 PM, so it fits a morning boarding — not an afternoon one.
A week in P3 is A$111 (about US$80) against A$164 (about US$115) in P1, a gap of A$53. For a seven-night cruise it’s the car park, not the rental, that sets the cost — a car at Pinkenba is a parking bill first.
In town, one CBD car park we read, Central Plaza 1 on Queen Street, prints A$85 as its daily maximum. That’s one car park — not an average.
Our parking guide covers the choice between these lots and a cab.
Brisbane’s two big day trips are each more than an hour away. That’s where a rental can beat a seat on a coach.
Inside Brisbane, a car is mostly a way to pay for parking. The long drives are different — the distance is what makes a tour or a taxi dear.
By our routing, Surfers Paradise is about 56.1 miles (90.3 km) from the terminal, roughly 79 minutes on empty roads. The Sunshine Coast hinterland near Beerwah, where Australia Zoo is, is about 52.2 miles (84.0 km) and 75 minutes.
Those are free-flow figures to approximate town-centre points, and they leave out morning traffic. We read no admission price, opening hour or parking charge at either end, and we didn’t map which toll roads either route uses.
A day south and back is about 112.2 miles (180.6 km), well over two hours at the wheel.
Our arithmetic, not a quote, on the same assumptions as the airport page’s calculator: an A$60 base rate we assumed, any GST taken as included, no airport fee, a blank pump-price box. Tolls aren’t priced; the only toll line is the A$3.30 a toll day that Avis, Budget and Sixt add, and it starts at zero days because we didn’t check which roads the trip crosses. The comparison rows start blank because we read no fare or tour price.
Four people for one day comes to the base rate plus any fuel you type in. Add the tolls from the table above, and the parking at the far end, which the calculator can’t see.
Set it beside a booked tour. Our shore excursion guide covers the ship-day version of both trips, and the buffer you need before all-aboard.
Skip the car on sailing day. It has to be back at the airport desk before you reach the terminal, and nothing here covers a late return.
If the ship is your only plan, skip the rental altogether and take a taxi.
Rent for the land days and hand the car back at the airport before the ship. Parked at Pinkenba, it only runs up the bill in the table above — and the table is not small.
Discover Cars’ Brisbane page showed an average of A$60 a day on Oct 6, 2026 and said its prices are in Australian dollars, which our summarising tool read for us. Confirm the currency on the booking screen.
Our Discover Cars review covers deposits and coverage, and the licence and left-hand rules are on the should-you-rent page.
Dollar figures use the European Central Bank reference rates of Oct 6, 2026 (about 70 US cents to the Australian dollar) — your card’s rate will differ.
No. The Port of Brisbane says there are no onsite car rental services. The desks are at Brisbane Airport, about 7.5 miles from the terminal by our routing.
Avis and Budget list midnight Sunday to Friday and 10 PM on Saturdays — Hertz lists midnight daily; Sixt lists 10 PM, or 9 PM on Saturdays. Avis and Sixt print a return slot at any hour.
Check your own brand before a late flight.
There are no booths. Linkt bills within 3 days, and Avis, Budget and Sixt charge your card and add A$3.30 for each day you use a toll road.
Clem7 is A$6.77 and Legacy Way A$7.30 for a car from July 1, 2026.
Wilson’s prepaid rates in October 2026: P3 is A$31 for a day and A$111 for seven — P2 A$34 and A$123; P1 A$46 and A$164. The car parks open only on ship days, and prepaying doesn’t guarantee a space.
We found no return point there. The port says the terminal has no rental services, so plan to return the car at the airport or another office before you board.
The Enterprise page we read for its Brisbane Airport office said the operation would be temporarily closed from Feb 1, 2026. We couldn’t confirm what has changed since, so check before you rely on it.
