Seven ways into this guide
Pick the question you actually have. Each card goes straight to the answer, not back to the top. Booking a tour yourself? Our comparison of Shore Excursions Group and Viator covers which of the two suits which kind of port day — and when the ship's own tour is still the better buy.

The Port of Galveston is run by the Port Authority of the City of Galveston, on Harborside Drive on the Gulf side of Galveston Island — a genuinely different kind of hub than the four Florida ports we cover. It's Texas's cruise port, not another Florida homeport with a different name, and it's the first hub we cover reached by driving south from a major inland metro (Houston) rather than working along a coastline.
Small, concentrated lineup: two lines sail from here every week of the year, two more show up every winter and leave every spring, one line is winding its Galveston chapter down entirely, and a fourth terminal sits built and ready for a ship that hasn't arrived yet. That churn is exactly why the cruise-lines section below is kept in one dated block rather than folded into the rest of this page — it's the section most likely to be wrong by the time you read it.
Cruise lines sailing from Galveston
This is the one section on this page built to go stale on its own clock, so it's kept in one block, dated, sourced — and not repeated anywhere else on this page.
Carnival Cruise Line and MSC Cruises both homeport here year-round. Carnival runs three core ships (Breeze, Dream, Jubilee) plus a rotating fourth (Miracle or Legend, depending on the season); MSC has sailed Seascape from its new Terminal 16 since November 2025. Disney Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line both return every winter — Disney Magic roughly late November through April, Norwegian Viva on a similar winter window — but neither is in port the rest of the year. Princess Cruises sailed the Regal Princess here for the 2025-26 season but has cancelled every Galveston departure from November 2026 on, so treat its presence as ending, not ongoing. Royal Caribbean International's Terminal 10 is active after all — a correction to this page's earlier research: Mariner of the Seas resumed its regular Galveston schedule on March 17, 2026 after drydock, and sails from here most of the year before repositioning to New Orleans every November for a winter season. Icon of the Seas is still confirmed to join Galveston in August 2027, on top of Mariner's existing schedule, not in place of it.

Where you can go: a Western Caribbean port, mostly
Galveston's program is more concentrated than any Florida hub we cover: one region, Western Caribbean, is the entire core. Cozumel is the universal call — every current line reaches it, most on both a 4-night and a longer combination itinerary. Costa Maya and Roatán are close behind, each served by at least two of the current lines. Everything past those three gets narrower fast: Progreso and Belize City are real but single-line-dominant calls, and the Bahamas — Nassau, plus Disney's and Carnival's own private islands — shows up only on longer or seasonal itineraries that aren't the default booking.
For the actual case for a Western Caribbean cruise — who it suits, what a typical week looks like — that's already covered in our Caribbean cruises guide. This section stays narrow on purpose: what's specific to sailing from Galveston, not a rewrite of the regional guide.
Common, not guaranteed — the actual stops on any sailing depend on the line, the ship, and the season, so check your specific itinerary rather than assuming from the pattern below.

Bahamas
Disney's seasonal 7-night sailings, and a longer Carnival Jubilee itinerary of unconfirmed frequency.
Half Moon Cay

Grand Bahama · Carnival
The same Carnival Jubilee 8-day Bahamas itinerary as Half Moon Cay and Nassau.

Bahamas · Disney
Disney's own private island — a minority of Disney Magic's Galveston program, which runs mostly Western Caribbean weeks instead. Not independently confirmed against Disney's own sailing calendar when we checked.

The same Nassau page every Florida hub we cover links to. From Galveston it's genuinely occasional — Disney Magic's seasonal Bahamian week, or a longer Carnival itinerary — not a Western Caribbean line's default call.
Nassau
A dock port — your ship ties up at Prince George Wharf, right at the edge of downtown. The Straw Market is steps away; Junkanoo Beach is a walkable ten to fifteen minutes down Bay Street.

The Port of Galveston runs four terminals, all on Harborside Drive. Two assignments are consistent everywhere we checked; two genuinely aren't — the port's own pages disagree with each other, which is different from simply not publishing the information, the situation at every Florida hub we cover.
| Terminal | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| 25 | Carnival Cruise Line. 2502 Harborside Drive, formerly "Terminal 1." One official page also names Disney here. |
| 28 | Disputed. 2702 Harborside Drive, formerly "Terminal 2." One official page names Disney; another names Princess and Norwegian instead. |
| 16 | MSC Cruises. 1602 Harborside Drive — opened November 2025 for MSC Seascape's arrival. One official page also names Norwegian here. |
| 10 | Royal Caribbean International. 1402 Harborside Drive — the world's first Net-Zero Energy cruise terminal, sized for Oasis-class ships. Mariner of the Seas sails from here most of the year, repositioning to New Orleans every November; Icon of the Seas joins in August 2027. |

Parking, in short
Galveston doesn't publish a flat per-day rate anywhere on its own site — the same pattern as Port Tampa Bay. Its reservation system only shows a number once you enter your ship and sail date, and the rate then depends on which of roughly a dozen official lots you pick, spread across the four terminals, plus how far ahead you book. Highly volatile
Two off-site operators turn up in third-party guides at rough ranges of $11-15/day and $20-25/day, but neither figure was confirmed on either operator's own site when we checked. That comparison gets the full page it deserves.

Unlike every Florida hub we cover, the nearest commercial airport isn't in the same city as the port — it's roughly 45 minutes north, in Houston. Two Houston airports serve the port; they aren't equally close.
| Airport | From the port | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| HOU — William P. Hobby Airport | ~45 minutes | The port's own site calls this the closest airport. The Galveston Shuttle is $28 a person one way booked online; Carnival's transfer is $41.99 and MSC's $25. |
| IAH — George Bush Intercontinental Airport | ~1.5 hours | Farther, but the stronger pick for international connections. The Galveston Shuttle charges the same $28 online; Carnival's transfer is $58.99 and MSC's $31. |
| GLS — Scholes International Airport | On Galveston Island itself | Private and charter traffic only — not a commercial option for cruisers. |
Distance and drive time Review periodically — figures from the port's own arrival guide, not a drive-time guarantee on a busy cruise-ship morning or during hurricane-season traffic patterns.

Galveston FAQ
Which cruise lines currently sail from Galveston?
As of September 2026, two lines have an active, year-round Galveston homeport: Carnival Cruise Line (Carnival Breeze, Carnival Dream and Carnival Jubilee, with a fourth ship — Carnival Miracle or Carnival Legend — rotating in depending on the season) and MSC Cruises (MSC Seascape, sailing here since November 2025). Disney Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line both return every winter on an established seasonal pattern, roughly December through April, but aren't in port outside that window. Royal Caribbean International's Mariner of the Seas also sails from here most of the year, repositioning to New Orleans every November for a winter season — a correction to this page's earlier research, which had concluded no Royal Caribbean ship was currently active here. Princess Cruises sailed a 2025-26 season here but has cancelled every Galveston departure from November 2026 onward — its Galveston era is ending, not continuing.
Which terminal will my ship use at Galveston?
The Port of Galveston runs four terminals on Harborside Drive, and two of them carry genuinely conflicting line assignments across the port's own pages. Terminal 25 is Carnival's; Terminal 16 is MSC's — those two are consistent everywhere. Terminal 28 is named for Disney on one official page and for Princess and Norwegian on another; Norwegian is also named at Terminal 16 on a third page. Terminal 10 is Royal Caribbean's — Mariner of the Seas sails from here most of the year, and Icon of the Seas joins in 2027. Confirm your specific terminal from your own line's boarding documents rather than assuming from any single source, this one included.
How much does parking cost at the Port of Galveston?
There's no flat daily rate published anywhere on the port's own site — like Port Tampa Bay, Galveston's reservation system only shows you a number once you enter your ship and sail date, and rates vary by lot (roughly a dozen official options across the four terminals) and by how far ahead you book. Two off-site operators turn up in third-party guides at rough ranges of $11-15/day and $20-25/day, but neither figure was confirmed on either operator's own site when we checked. Get an actual quote before you plan around any number you read online, this page included.
What's the closest airport to the Port of Galveston?
William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in Houston, about a 45-minute drive per the port's own site — closer than George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), roughly 1.5 hours away. A small local airport, Scholes International on Galveston Island itself, exists but handles private and charter traffic only, not commercial flights.
Does a cruise from Galveston reach the Bahamas?
Rarely, and it's not the pattern to plan around. Galveston's core program is Western Caribbean — Cozumel, Costa Maya and Roatán are the standard calls across every current line. The Bahamas turns up only on Disney Magic's seasonal 7-night sailings (Nassau and Disney's own Castaway Cay and Lighthouse Point) and on a longer Carnival Jubilee itinerary to Nassau, Half Moon Cay and Celebration Key of unconfirmed frequency. If a Bahamas stop matters to your trip, confirm it's actually on your specific sailing rather than assuming it from the region generally.
Is Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas sailing from Galveston yet?
Not yet, but Royal Caribbean already has an active ship here: Mariner of the Seas, which resumed its regular Galveston schedule on March 17, 2026 after drydock and sails from Terminal 10 — the world's first Net-Zero Energy cruise terminal — most of the year, repositioning to New Orleans every November for a winter season. Icon of the Seas is confirmed to join Galveston in August 2027, adding to Mariner's schedule rather than replacing it, with Symphony of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas following in 2027-2028.
