Trieste is the easy one among the ports sold as Venice, and most of what confuses people is the name. Holland America markets it as “Trieste (Venice)” and Princess as “Trieste (for Venice)”, but the ship leaves from Trieste — about 94 miles (150 km) and 2 hours from Venice Marco Polo, per Holland America.
What you get in exchange is a terminal in the middle of a walkable city. The Stazione Marittima sits on the waterfront beside Piazza Unità, and our walking routes put the closest hotels a few minutes away. For Venice’s own lagoon terminals and the lines that use them, see our Venice guide — a different port, not a nearby one.
The port is busy but not huge. A trade report in May 2026 counted 131 calls and 455,469 passengers in 2025, about 130 calls for 2026 and about 136 expected in 2027, with larger ships returning. Plan for Trieste on its own terms, then add Venice before or after if you want it.
Cruise lines sailing from here
Deployments change every season, so this roster is dated and sourced, and it lives only here.
Checked against the lines’ own pages on October 3–4, 2026. Holland America sails Oosterdam from “Trieste (Venice)” in 2026, and Oosterdam and Nieuw Statendam in 2027, with Trieste among its overnight ports. Princess sells “Trieste (for Venice)” and names Sun Princess and Enchanted Princess for its 2027 Mediterranean, with Trieste among five homeports, adding that “the port location is subject to change.” Norwegian’s Trieste page is titled for Venice and says the ship “will DEPART from this port”; its ships and dates didn’t show for us. MSC lists “Cruises from Trieste (Venice) in 2026” without naming the ship (CruiseMapper, an aggregator, shows MSC Fantasia here on Saturdays in October 2026), and lists Monfalcone as a separate port. Costa sells “Mediterraneo da Trieste” sailings on Costa Deliziosa from October 10, 2026, though we saw those only in search results. Regent sails Seven Seas Prestige from Trieste in 2027; we read three voyages on its site, on July 29 to Athens and on August 21 and October 25 to Barcelona.
Sources, read October 3–4, 2026: hollandamerica.com (Trieste port page and its 2026 and 2027 Europe releases), princess.com (Trieste page and its 2027 Europe release), ncl.com (Venice/Trieste), msccruisesusa.com (Trieste and Monfalcone), costacrociere.it (search results only), rssc.com (three voyage pages), cruisemapper.com (aggregator schedule) and Adriaports (May 6, 2026). The same trade report names TUI Cruises, Marella and Royal Caribbean among 2026’s lines without saying which start here; we found no Royal Caribbean page selling a Trieste departure. Confirm your own ship and date before you book around it.
Where you can go
Line pages call Trieste’s sailings things like “Mediterranean with Italy & Croatia” and “Greek Isles & Adriatic”, but most didn’t show their ports when we read them. The one full port list we could read is Regent’s August 2027 voyage, Trieste to Barcelona, so the stops below are that voyage’s — a real itinerary, not a pattern for every line.
Four have pages of their own: Athens (Piraeus), Mykonos, Santorini and Barcelona. Read your own itinerary, not this list, before you plan a day ashore.

Before or after the ship: Miramare Castle is about 4.4 road miles from the terminal by our routing, open daily 9:00 to 19:00, per the castle. The Grotta Gigante, about 5.8 road miles, runs guided tours that need booking — €15 (about US$17) for adults, per the cave, with 500 steps down and 500 back up. Delfino Verde boats run from the Rive to Muggia all year, and up the coast in summer, per TTP.
One terminal in town — and a pier called Molo IV
Trieste Terminal Passeggeri (TTP) holds the concession for the Stazione Marittima, warehouses 41 and 42 on Molo dei Bersaglieri, by Piazza Unità. Both of its wharves take ships up to 300 m, per TTP. Holland America gives the address as 3 Molo Dei Bersaglieri, 34155; MSC as Molo dei Bersaglieri 3, 34123 — the same terminal, two postcodes.
Costa’s and TUI’s parking pages are titled “Molo IV”, and Costa’s directions send drivers to the Molo IV car park at Largo Città di Santos, about 100 m from Trieste Centrale. Whether those ships also berth at Molo IV isn’t stated, so trust your boarding documents over this page. TTP’s own office is at Molo IV too.
| Place | Where | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| Stazione Marittima (TTP) | Molo dei Bersaglieri 3, by Piazza Unità | The cruise terminal Holland America and MSC name |
| Molo IV car park | Largo Città di Santos, about 100 m from Trieste Centrale | Costa and TUI parking; whether their ships berth here isn’t stated |
| Via Gian Rinaldo Carli 8–10 | About 1.5 road miles from the terminal, our routing | TTP’s covered car park for MSC guests, with a free shuttle |
| Monfalcone | Via Vittorio Veneto, a separate port | MSC lists it as its own embarkation port |
Sources: triesteterminal.it and its parking documents, hollandamerica.com and msccruisesusa.com, read October 3, 2026. We found no published check-in window or accessibility details for the terminal, and Holland America says there’s no luggage storage at the pier. Confirm with your line — especially on a Costa or TUI sailing.
Parking, in short
TTP runs the only official cruise parking, and it calls it exactly that. You book on its site: MSC guests park under cover at Via Gian Rinaldo Carli, Costa and TUI guests at Molo IV, and a free shuttle runs to the terminal. Drop-off is 08:00 to 17:00 on sail day and pick-up 07:00 to 13:00 when you’re back.
TTP shows its prices only inside the booking portal, which didn’t load for us, so we don’t print a number. Get yours there, and don’t trust a reseller that won’t say it’s TTP — TTP itself warns about online scams.
Where should I park for a Trieste cruise?
TTP’s two car parks, its hours and size limits, and the garages hotels print.

Trieste Airport is close and has its own train stop. Venice Marco Polo is the bigger airport and Holland America’s transfer point, two hours away. Ljubljana works too, across the border.
| Airport | Taxi or drive | Train or transfer |
|---|---|---|
| TRS — Trieste Airport | Taxi Trieste Airport lists €75 into central Trieste, bags and tolls included; Radio Taxi Trieste prints a fixed €60 back to the airport. About 24.6 miles (39.6 km) to the terminal by our routing. | A 425 m walkway to the airport’s rail stop; trains to Trieste took 23–29 minutes in the airport’s 2019 release. Bus 51 runs to the coach terminal by Trieste Centrale. |
| VCE — Venice Marco Polo | About 92.9 miles (149.5 km) by our routing; Holland America says about 2 hours, Princess about 2.5. | Holland America transfers from Marco Polo only, not Treviso; no price on its page. |
| LJU — Ljubljana | About 72.0 miles (115.9 km) by our routing; Slovenia’s motorways need an e-vignette. | Two daily trains link Ljubljana with the Trieste Airport station, per the airport. |
From triesteairport.it, taxitriesteairport.it, radiotaxitrieste.it, hollandamerica.com and princess.com, read October 3, 2026; distances are our routing with no traffic. From Trieste Centrale the terminal is about 0.8 road miles — a short taxi or a walk along the Rive.
The night before, ranked: we’ve scored nineteen hotels for the night before a Trieste cruise, from Piazza Unità to Barcola and the airport, on what each one publishes. None sells a ride to the ship; most of the centre is a walk. Four worth knowing:
| Hotel | Where | One thing to know |
|---|---|---|
| Duchi d'Aosta | On Piazza Unità d’Italia | A pool and Harry's Bar downstairs, per the hotel; about 0.2 miles on foot to the terminal by our routing. Breakfast terms aren't printed. |
| Savoia Excelsior | Riva del Mandracchio, by Piazza Unità | The shortest walk we measured, about 0.1 miles; a 40 m² Family Suite sleeps four, per Starhotels. |
| Nuovo Albergo Centro | Via Roma, by the Canal Grande | Breakfast included on a direct booking, with gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options, per the hotel. |
| Hotel Italia | Via della Geppa, by the station | A garage with a driver who collects and returns your car, €30.00 (about US$35) per 24 hours, per the hotel. |
For a grander night, see the splurge list, from the Duchi d’Aosta to a Collio castle. Flying in? Trieste Airport or Venice to the ship has the train, the taxi and the drive.

Trieste FAQ
Where is the cruise terminal in Trieste?
In the middle of town. Holland America and MSC both give it as Molo dei Bersaglieri 3 — the Stazione Marittima, run by Trieste Terminal Passeggeri (TTP), beside Piazza Unità. The two lines print different postcodes, 34155 and 34123, for the same address. Costa's and TUI's parking pages say Molo IV, by the station, and don't say whether their ships berth there too.
Is a Trieste cruise really a Venice cruise?
No — it's a Trieste cruise that some lines market with Venice's name. Holland America says "Trieste (Venice)", Princess "Trieste (for Venice)". The ship leaves from Trieste, about 94 miles (150 km) and 2 hours from Venice Marco Polo, per Holland America.
Which cruise lines sail from Trieste?
On the lines' own pages, read October 3–4, 2026: Holland America (Oosterdam in 2026, Oosterdam and Nieuw Statendam in 2027), Princess (whose 2027 Mediterranean ships are Sun Princess and Enchanted Princess), Norwegian, MSC, Costa (Costa Deliziosa, from search results) and Regent, with at least three Seven Seas Prestige voyages from Trieste in 2027. Confirm your own ship and date.
What's the nearest airport to the Trieste cruise port?
Trieste Airport (TRS), about 24.6 road miles (39.6 km) from the terminal by our routing, roughly 40 minutes with no traffic. It has its own train stop, and Taxi Trieste Airport lists €75 (about US$85) into central Trieste, bags and tolls included, and Radio Taxi Trieste a fixed €60 (about US$65) for the trip back.
Is there luggage storage at the Trieste cruise terminal?
Not per Holland America, which says there's no luggage storage at the pier. Leave bags at your hotel until you head for the ship.
Does MSC sail from Trieste or Monfalcone?
MSC lists both. Its Trieste page mentions cruises from "Trieste (Venice)" in 2026, and a separate Monfalcone page gives Via Vittorio Veneto — a different port. Check which one your booking names.
