Alamo's customers rate it highly — it tied Avis for the top ACSI score of 2026, 79 out of 100 — and its free Skip the Counter option sends you straight to a car at select locations. The pier is the weak spot, because at 16 of the 23 ports we've researched Alamo is airport-only. It scores 6.7, fifth of ten by our method.

Strong satisfaction scores and low toll fees meet a thin port presence. Its late-return rule is also a little stricter than Enterprise's and National's, and its pay-later cancellation rule is stricter than Enterprise's.

Alamo's map, port by port
Near the pier, Alamo comes down to three city desks. In San Francisco it shares 350 Beach St, 1.0 mi from Pier 27 — open 7:30 to 3 at weekends. It lists the 1601 3rd Ave counter in Seattle, 0.9 mi from Pier 66, and shares 1200 rue Stanley in Montréal, which has a drop box on the wall by the entry.
At Port Canaveral it shares the 710 Mullet Rd office and its free terminal shuttle. Alamo says the shuttle runs every 15 minutes, Enterprise's page for the same office says every 25 to 30 — either way, the last run leaves at 3 PM.
Everywhere else, plan on an airport. Alamo's FLL and Miami Beach pages say they don't serve Port Everglades or PortMiami, and in Honolulu an Alamo UK listing names a pier shuttle location with no address or hours, which we list as unconfirmed.

The fine print that bites on a cruise trip
Alamo's rules, and the two that differ
Alamo's US terms mostly match Enterprise's and National's. Two don't, and both cost money if a ship docks late or a plan changes — the extra-day threshold and the pay-later cancellation fee (Enterprise charges none; National doesn't publish its terms).
Everything below was checked on Alamo's own pages on Oct 21, 2026.

At select locations you activate Accelerated Check-In, walk to the car and show your ticket, license and card at the exit gate. It needs a major credit card, a pay-later booking made 24+ hours ahead and a rental of 30 days or less.
A 29-minute grace period, hourly charges after that, and a full extra day from 2 hours late. Enterprise and National set that line at 2.5 hours, so we're treating Alamo's figure as partly confirmed.
Card-guaranteed pay-later bookings cancel free more than 24 hours before pickup and cost $50 after that or if unused; unguaranteed reservations cancel free anytime. Pay Now bookings cost $50 to cancel more than 24 hours out and $100 inside 24 hours or as a no-show.
Airports accept debit only with a ticketed return itinerary and a matching license address, and the page addresses disembarking passengers directly. Otherwise it's a credit card plus a $300–$400 deposit.
$4.95 on each day you incur a toll, plus tolls, up to $34.65 a rental, billed about four to six weeks later. You can use your own E-ZPass; the page gives no Florida specifics.
Most US-rented Alamo cars may go into Canada; none may enter Mexico. One-way drop charges vary by route and season, and certain one-ways aren't allowed.
Comparison sites show the base rate. These are the add-ons Alamo publishes, so you can see the real total before you tap through — anything it doesn't publish shows at checkout, and we say so rather than guess.

The money side holds up: fees score 8.5 and satisfaction 8.0.
Two things cost it ground against National. Timing scores 6.0, half a point lower, because the extra-day charge starts at 2 hours late, not 2.5 — and port access sits at 5.3 with one shared shuttle, three city desks and sixteen airport-only ports.
Across the 23 cruise ports we've researched, Alamo has a pier shuttle at 1, an office near the terminal at 3, airport counters only at 16, and a written statement that it offers no port pickup or shuttle at 2; 1 are unconfirmed and 0 show no presence. Shuttles score 10, near-port offices 6, airport-only or unconfirmed 3, a no-shuttle statement 1 and no presence 0; the average is scaled by 1.5 and capped at 10.
J.D. Power's 2026 North America Rental Car Satisfaction Study scored Alamo 716 out of 1,000 (study average 707); the American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2026 travel study scored it 79 out of 100 (industry 76). We convert each to a 0–10 scale and average what's available.
Same one-way and Canada rules as Enterprise; certain one-ways aren't allowed.
$15 a day per extra driver, spouse or partner free; debit rules mention disembarking passengers.
Airport-based like National, but a full extra day starts at 2 hours late, not 2.5.
TollPass at $4.95 per toll day, capped at $34.65; pay-later cancels free more than 24 hours out.

What renters say
Alamo's 79 and 716, side by side
The American Customer Satisfaction Index's 2026 travel study, released Apr 21, 2026, scored Alamo 79 out of 100, tied with Avis for the top and 3 points above the industry's 76. J.D. Power's 2026 study, released Oct 7, 2026, placed it fourth of 13 brands at 716, just above the 707 average (figures as reported by TravelPulse and Auto Rental News).
The two surveys sample different renters, so read them as a range, not a ranking. Alamo and Avis tie at the top of the ACSI, so the 79 won't separate them for you — the hours on our port board will.

Our take
The Seabound view of Alamo
Alamo suits the land half of a vacation — a few Orlando days before a Port Canaveral sailing, say — when you're happy to start and finish at an airport, not the pier.
Its rules run a shade tighter than Enterprise's and National's — a ship that docks late costs more here than at either, and a flight change the night before costs more than at Enterprise.
Book pay-later through Insiders for the 5%, cancel at least 24 hours out if plans shift, and leave yourself more than 2 hours of slack on the return.

Can I use Alamo's Skip the Counter on a cruise trip?
Yes, at select locations, if you booked at least 24 hours ahead on a pay-later rate and pay with a major credit card. Debit cards don't qualify. You show your ticket, license and card at the exit gate instead of queueing at the counter.
Will Alamo pick me up at the cruise terminal?
Only at Port Canaveral, through the 710 Mullet Rd office it shares with Enterprise and National, last run 3 PM. Elsewhere you make your own way to an airport counter or city desk.
How late can I return an Alamo car before paying an extra day?
Alamo generally allows a 29-minute grace period, then charges by the hour, and its FAQ bills a full extra day once you're 2 hours late. That's half an hour less than Enterprise and National state. A car returned after hours isn't checked in until the next business day.
Is Alamo Insiders worth joining for one rental?
It's free and takes 5% off base rates on pay-later bookings, so there's little to lose. It doesn't waive extra-driver fees or include a counter bypass; Skip the Counter is a separate, free option.
Can I drive an Alamo rental from Seattle to Vancouver?
Most US-rented Alamo cars may be driven into Canada. Alamo doesn't state whether a Seattle-to-Vancouver one-way is allowed or what it costs, and it says certain one-ways aren't permitted. Price it in the booking flow, where the drop charge appears before you pay.
