Jordan in late 2026: the advisory, and who’s running
Before prices or itineraries: what the US government and the tour companies said, with dates.
| Date | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Mar 2–10, 2026 | G Adventures, Intrepid, Collette, Globus, Tauck and Trafalgar’s parent TTC paused Jordan departures in March | PAX; Travel Market Report |
| 2026 | Globus extended its Middle East cancellations, Jordan included, through August | Travel Weekly |
| Jun 16, 2026 | Intrepid returning to Jordan; G Adventures showing departures from July 28 | Open Jaw |
| Aug 20, 2026 | Collette cancelled its Jordan Extension and Journey Through Egypt & Jordan through December 31, 2026 | Collette travel alerts |
| Aug 21, 2026 | Trafalgar: Jordan trips “operating as normal, with all scheduled departures proceeding as planned” | Trafalgar travel update |
| Late Oct 2026 | Globus’s travel-update page lists no alerts | Globus |
| Oct 23, 2026 | State Department reissues Jordan at Level 3, citing the risk of Houthi attacks that could escalate | travel.state.gov |
You’re deciding whether to book, and this is the part to read twice. The State Department’s Level 3 asks you to reconsider; it doesn’t forbid travel, and the tour companies above are selling 2027 dates.
Look at the route, not just the country. The classic loop runs Amman, Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba, and the advisory names the Ma’an area around Highway 15, so ask your operator which roads and towns its itinerary uses.
Book with terms you can live with. If departures were cancelled once in 2026, ask what happens to your money if it happens again, and buy insurance before your deposit window closes.
Our position
We don’t forecast events. We’ll send you the current advisory and each operator’s latest notice when we quote, and again before final payment.
Petra: two days, a ticket and a sunrise
Most visitors give Petra a day. The tours that give it two get the quiet hours.
Petra is the reason most people go. If you’re staying overnight in Jordan, the Jordan Tourism Board lists tickets at 50 JD for one day, 55 JD for two and 60 JD for three, on consecutive days; children under 12 enter free.
Petra by Night costs 30 JD and runs Sunday to Thursday, 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. You need a daytime ticket or Jordan Pass too.
The site is big. Club cars run from the Visitor Centre to the Treasury for 15 JD one way, and a guide for the 2.5-hour Main Trail costs 50 JD.
Two nights is the right answer. Trafalgar, Intrepid and both G Adventures trips we read sleep two nights in Petra, which buys an early start before the day buses.
The back door into Petra
On G Adventures’ Uncover Jordan, the group hikes from Little Petra along the ancient backdoor trail and comes out near the Monastery for a boxed lunch.
Sunrise at Petra
A last sunrise visit to the site, then breakfast.
By 4x4 into Wadi Rum
A drive to a private camp in the dunes.
Dinner and a stargazing walk
Group dinner at camp, then a walking tour of the night sky. The trip rates its activity level 2, light.
What to ask your operator
Is the Petra ticket in the fare, and how many days does it cover? Does the group go in at opening, or after breakfast with everyone else?
Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea, Aqaba and the Roman north
Petra is one day of a Jordan trip. The rest decides which tour you book.
Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum is where the formats split. Intrepid and G Adventures sleep a night in camp; Collette’s new Wonders of Jordan uses a tented cabin. Trafalgar and Tauck come by day and sleep in Aqaba or Petra.
Intrepid says October nights there are cool, November nights border on cold, and December can drop below freezing.
The Dead Sea, Aqaba and Jerash
The Dead Sea is a float and a mud scrub. Tauck stays two nights at the Kempinski Ishtar; Intrepid stops by day.
Aqaba is the Red Sea break: one night on Trafalgar, two on G Adventures’ Uncover Jordan, with boat trips sold as extras from about $50. Jerash, the Roman city north of Amman, gets a 3-hour guided visit on G Adventures and a day trip on Trafalgar.
When to go: desert spring, desert autumn
You’re trading heat against crowds. Spring and autumn win, for the same reason everyone else picks them.
Spring: the best weather, and busy
Intrepid calls April the sweet spot, with averages in the mid-70s°F. March brings wildflowers after the rains; May warms up as it goes.
- Trafalgar’s April 2027 dates cost $3,295; its May dates drop to $2,975
- Spring is among the busiest periods at Petra, Intrepid says
- Ramadan runs about February 8 to March 8, 2027; some services are limited
Summer: heat and early starts
Intrepid says Jordan can top 104°F in some regions, the Dead Sea and Jordan Valley reach 100 to 108°F in August, and Aqaba has topped 113°F.
- Petra is quieter; go at opening
- Hiking is mostly off the table unless you’re used to heat
- Trafalgar runs July and August 2027 departures at $2,975
Autumn: warm days, cooler desert nights
September highs run in the mid-80s°F with more tourists and longer queues; November averages the mid-60s°F. October is good for Dead Sea swimming.
- October nights in Wadi Rum are ideal for camping, says Intrepid
- G Adventures lists October to December 2027 departures
- November is a quieter shoulder month
Winter: cold, wet and quiet
Most rain falls in December and January, flash floods can close trails such as Wadi Mujib, and snow occasionally falls at Petra and Amman.
- The Red Sea and Dead Sea stay in the mid-to-high 60s°F in December
- Trafalgar and Insight sell Winter versions of the Jordan Experience
- Pack for freezing nights if you camp in Wadi Rum
Temperatures and crowd notes are Intrepid’s published guidance; prices come from the operators’ 2027 calendars.
How many days Jordan takes
You’re fitting Jordan into your vacation days. It’s a small country, and a week does it well.
Lengths from the operators’ listings. Days include arrival and departure days.
Our rule of thumb
A week for Jordan alone, with two nights at Petra and one in Wadi Rum. Add the Dead Sea as a night, not an hour, if you can spare 9 or 10 days.

From-prices in USD per person sharing, before international flights. Gate 1’s are land-only 2027 prices. The two G Adventures fares are November 2026 departures, labeled; both trips list 2027 dates without a published base fare. A&K’s comes from a reseller listing. Intrepid’s page didn’t tie its fare to a date. Collette’s Wonders of Jordan wasn’t yet bookable.
Coach: Trafalgar, Globus, Gate 1
Trafalgar’s Jordan tour sits in its Premium tier, average 33 guests. Gate 1 sells the cheapest Jordan week we found and the most Israel and Egypt combinations we found.
Luxury: Tauck, A&K
The Tauck Jordan tours we found pair it with Israel or with Egypt. A&K’s small group pairs it with Saudi Arabia in October and November 2027.
Small groups: G Adventures, Intrepid, Collette
The desert-camp trips. G Adventures sells a basic 18-to-39 version and an upgraded one; Intrepid caps groups at 12 and takes ages 15 and up.
Egypt combos
Globus, Tauck, Gate 1, G Adventures and Intrepid all sell Egypt and Jordan together. See section 11.
What Jordan costs per day, and all-in
Jordan runs from about $100 to more than $1,500 a day. The pricey end is mostly other countries bolted on.
Our arithmetic on the from-prices above. Inclusions differ: Gate 1 is land only; Tauck and Globus combos include Israel or Egypt; A&K includes Saudi Arabia.
Read the cheap end carefully. Gate 1’s $100 a day is a value-style land price, and G Adventures’ $147 a day is a basic-style trip for ages 18 to 39 with most dinners on you.
For Jordan alone with 4- and 5-star hotels and 13 meals, Trafalgar’s 2027 fare works out to about $425 a day.
All-in math
What a Jordan tour costs once you land
We filled in Trafalgar’s Jordan Experience – Premium at its May to September 2027 fare, with the midpoints of Trafalgar’s tip guidance. The meals figure is our starting estimate; change it, and swap in your own quote.
The Jordan Experience includes 6 breakfasts, 2 lunches and 5 dinners, so about 5 meals are yours. On G Adventures, use its own guidance instead: a kitty of about $45 on Uncover Jordan plus $10 to $15 a day for the leader; leave the driver box at zero. Arranging your own entry? Add the Jordan Pass (70 to 80 JD). Add your flight to Amman.

Adding Israel in 2027: what’s sold, what’s paused (as of October 28, 2026)
This section is dated because it changes. Here’s who sells Israel with Jordan for 2027, and what the State Department says.
| Operator | Israel in 2027 | What we read, and when |
|---|---|---|
| Globus | Selling | Israel & Wonders of Jordan, 14 days, $4,869 on July 12, 2027; Fascinating Israel, 9 days, from $3,199 (reseller) |
| Cosmos | Listed | Holy Land Discovery, 8 days from $2,479, and with Jordan, 11 days from $3,599, from April 2027 (reseller) |
| Tauck | Selling | Israel and Jordan, 14 days from $9,990, 2027 Classic and Small Group dates; crosses at the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge |
| Gate 1 | Selling | Four 2027 Israel & Jordan tours, 14 to 18 days, from $2,299 land only |
| Trafalgar | Not operating | “Trafalgar is not currently operating any tours in Israel and the Palestinian Territories” (October 2026) |
| G Adventures | Doesn’t operate | No Israel trips (PAX, March 2, 2026) |
| Intrepid | Doesn’t operate | No Israel trips (PAX, March 2, 2026) |
| Collette | None found | No current Israel tour on its pages; its Jordan programs are cancelled through December 31, 2026 |
| A&K, O.A.T. | Ask us | We couldn’t confirm a 2027 Israel departure on their pages |
What the advisory says
Israel is at Level 3, Reconsider Travel, due to terrorism and unrest. The State Department updated it on October 23, 2026 to reflect the threat of Houthi attacks; the level didn’t change.
It sets Level 4, Do Not Travel, for the north of Israel above Routes 85, 90 and 87, within 7 miles of Gaza, and within 1.5 miles of the Egyptian border except the Taba crossing. The West Bank and Gaza have their own advisories; read them if your tour visits Bethlehem or Jericho.
The embassy also notes airlines can cancel or limit flights in and out of Israel.
The practical side
Tauck’s Israel and Jordan crosses at the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge on day 9. Jordan doesn’t issue visas at that crossing, so you need a visa in advance or a special permit; ask your operator how it handles it.
Israel requires an approved ETA-IL before you fly, 25 shekels, with a reply within about 72 hours, according to Israel’s embassy in Washington. Jordan charges a 10 JD departure tax in cash when you leave overland, G Adventures says.
If Israel is a must, compare Globus, Tauck and Gate 1 on what happens if the Israel portion is cancelled. If it isn’t, book Jordan alone and keep it simple.
Adding Egypt: Petra and the Pyramids
Two of the Middle East’s big sights are a short flight apart. Operators sell them together for a reason.
Egypt is the easier add. Globus’s Egypt with Nile Cruise & Treasures of Jordan runs 13 days, $4,499 on August 14, 2027; Tauck’s Jordan & Egypt: Petra to the Pyramids runs 13 days from $13,990 and spends two nights each at the Dead Sea and Petra.
Gate 1 lists four Jordan and Egypt tours with Nile cruises, 16 to 18 days from $4,599, and a 10 Day Petra & Pyramids Special from $2,379. G Adventures and Intrepid sell combinations of 14 to 23 days.
Egypt has its own terms and its own visa. Our Egypt land-tour guide covers the Nile ships, Abu Simbel and the fees; read it before you pick a combo.
Tipping, dinars and what to wear
Tips depend on who you book. Clothing depends on where you are that day.
| Who | Guidance | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Trafalgar Travel Director and driver | $5–$7 and $3–$5 per person per day | Trafalgar tipping guide |
| G Adventures leader | $10–$15 per person per day (Bedouin trip); $11–$13 (Uncover Jordan) | Trip pages |
| G Adventures group kitty | About $45 per person on Uncover Jordan | Trip page |
| Extra meals and activities | About 10% is customary in the Middle East | G Adventures |
| Tauck land journeys | Director gratuity not included | Tauck FAQ |
Cash and cards
Jordan uses the Jordanian dinar (JD or JOD). G Adventures says ATMs in the main cities take Visa and Mastercard, so bring both, and carry some cash for places without one.
US dollars must be clean: notes older than 1996, or torn, may be refused. It also suggests keeping about $200 for emergencies.
Dress and Ramadan
Cover your shoulders at mosques and religious sites, and outside the cities choose loose clothing; G Adventures suggests a shawl or scarf.
During Ramadan, about February 8 to March 8, 2027, cover knees and shoulders and don’t eat, drink or smoke in public in daytime. Evenings are lively, Intrepid notes.
Visas, the Jordan Pass, flights to Amman and the clock
Jordan is easy on a US passport. Know whether your tour is handling the visa, or you are.
Most Jordan tours start and end in Amman, so a round trip works. Combos with Egypt or Israel start in Cairo or Tel Aviv and end elsewhere; book open-jaw.
Fly in a day early. G Adventures’ Uncover Jordan, for one, wants you at the Amman hotel by 9 a.m. on day 1.
The embassy notes regional tensions can lead airlines to cancel or limit flights. Book flights you can change, and tell us your flight so we can watch it.
Solo, families and slower travelers in Jordan
Twin-share pricing is built for couples. These are better starting points for everyone else.
| If you are… | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Traveling solo | G Adventures Bedouin trip | No supplement on twin share; My Own Room from $1,359 if you want a room alone |
| Traveling solo by coach | Trafalgar Jordan Experience | Trafalgar matches you with a same-sex roommate at the twin-share price where room share is offered |
| A family | Intrepid Jordan Family Holiday | 8 days from about $1,819 on a reseller listing; ask us for the age rules |
| Older, or slower on your feet | Trafalgar Jordan Experience | Hotels every night, bags handled, club cars at Petra if you need them |
| After the most comfort | Tauck Israel and Jordan | Two nights at the Dead Sea and two at Petra, Small Group dates averaging 24 |
Petra is a lot of walking. The Monastery and the High Place of Sacrifice are separate, longer trails beyond the main route, and club cars cover the Visitor Centre to the Treasury for 15 JD one way.
If walking is a real limit, a private tour lets you set the hours and skip the climbs.
Extra nights, deposits and when to book
Most Jordan trips gain a night at one end or the other. Plan the edges when you book the middle.
Before and after the tour
Trafalgar’s Jordan Experience with its two-night Dead Sea extension starts at $3,075. An extra night in Amman before the tour is cheap insurance against a late flight.
Pairing it with a cruise?
Our cruise and land tour combos guide shows how operators sell land days around a sailing. Ask us before you book a ship that promises Petra as a day trip.
How far ahead to book
Spring and autumn are the busy months. For April or October, we’d book six to nine months out; our booking-window guide compares the operators’ deadlines.
Deposits and insurance
Trafalgar’s deposit starts at $200; Tauck’s is $600, with final payment 90 days out on land trips. Given the advisory, read the cancellation and change terms before you pay, and see our purchase-window guide.
Before you book a Jordan tour
These are the lines that change the price or the trip. Tick them off as you go.
Your Jordan checklist
Ticks aren’t saved. Deposits and cancellation terms are on each operator’s guide below.
Who should tour Jordan, and who should wait
Book a tour if
- You want Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea in a week without driving it yourself
- You want a desert camp night arranged, with a guide who knows the Bedouin hosts
- You’re adding Egypt and want one company handling both visas and flights
- You’ve read the Level 3 advisory and are comfortable with it
Look elsewhere if
- A Level 3 advisory rules a trip out for you; wait for it to change
- You only want Petra; a short private trip from Amman does it
- You can only travel in July or August and don’t handle heat
- You need Israel guaranteed on your dates; the operators’ plans have changed before
Our take
For a first trip, take a 7- or 8-day loop from Amman with two nights at Petra: Trafalgar’s Jordan Experience if you want hotels every night, Intrepid’s Jordan Discovery if you want the Wadi Rum camp and a group of 12.
Add Egypt before you add Israel. It’s the combination more operators are selling for 2027.
Whatever you pick, read the October 23, 2026 advisory and your operator’s cancellation terms before the deposit.

What Jordan first-timers ask us
Is it safe to tour Jordan right now?
We can only tell you what the State Department says. On October 23, 2026 it reissued Jordan at Level 3, Reconsider Travel, due to terrorism and armed conflict, with Level 4 for the borders with Syria and Iraq and a few other named areas. Tour companies are running: Trafalgar said on August 21, 2026 that its Jordan trips were operating as normal, and G Adventures and Intrepid resumed in summer 2026 after pausing in March. Read the advisory yourself before you pay a deposit, and buy insurance that fits it.
How many days do you need for Jordan?
Seven or eight days covers Amman, Jerash, Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea or Aqaba; Trafalgar’s Jordan Experience runs 7 and Intrepid’s Jordan Discovery 8. Give Petra two nights, not one. Add Egypt and you’re at 13 to 18 days; add Israel and it’s 14 to 18.
Should I buy the Jordan Pass?
If you’re arranging your own entry, usually yes. It costs 70, 75 or 80 Jordanian dinars for one, two or three days at Petra, covers more than 40 sites, and waives the 40 JD tourist visa fee if you buy it before arriving and stay at least two nights. A Petra ticket alone is 50 JD for a day. On a tour, ask first: some operators arrange the visa and entries for you.
Do US citizens need a visa for Jordan?
Yes. The State Department says you can get a single-entry visa on arrival at Queen Alia airport and most land borders for 40 JD, about $56, but not at the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge from Israel. Your passport must be valid six months past arrival, with a blank page.
Can I add Israel to a Jordan tour in 2027?
Some operators sell it. Globus lists Israel & Wonders of Jordan for July 12, 2027 at $4,869; Tauck offers 2027 departures of its 14-day Israel and Jordan from $9,990; Gate 1 lists four 2027 Israel and Jordan tours. Trafalgar says it isn’t currently operating tours in Israel, and G Adventures and Intrepid don’t run trips there. Israel is also at Level 3, updated October 23, 2026.
When is the best time to visit Jordan?
Intrepid recommends spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Summer can top 104°F in some regions, and winter brings cold, rain, occasional snow at Petra and freezing nights in Wadi Rum. Ramadan runs about February 8 to March 8, 2027, when some services are limited.
How much should I tip on a Jordan tour?
Trafalgar suggests $5 to $7 a day for the Travel Director and $3 to $5 for the driver. G Adventures suggests about $10 to $15 a day for its leader, a group kitty of about $45 on its 7-day trip, and about 10% for extra meals and activities.
