What nine taps get you
You’ve got a trip in mind and too many brochures. Start here, then read the guides for the three names that come back.
Tell us how you travel
Nine questions, and none of them is required. Three good answers already sort the field; nine make it sharp.
Matcher
Which tour companies fit how you travel?
Tap one answer per question; tap it again to clear it. The top three update as you go.
Why these three
Answer a question or two above and we’ll explain each match here, with a real tour and a format to start with.
Prices are per person, sharing, before flights, on from-prices we checked in October 2026 (2027 departures unless the facts table says otherwise). Example tours come from the operator’s own page or, where marked, a US agency listing. Your quote is the price that counts.
How we score, in full
A matcher you can’t audit is a sales funnel with buttons. Here’s every rule.
Every answer hands each of the 19 options a score from −20 to +3. The matcher adds them up, sorts by total, and draws each bar as the share of points that option could have earned on the questions you answered.
Two questions are pure arithmetic: budget uses the price per day of every named tour we priced, and group size uses the number each operator publishes.
The other seven turn published facts into points with the rubric below.
| Question | Earns +3 | Costs points | Facts it uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who’s traveling | The operator says it’s built for you (O.A.T. 50+, Trafalgar Small Group 40+, Contiki 18–35) | Contiki outside 18–35: −20. O.A.T. for families: −6 | Age rules, minimum ages, family lines |
| Budget per day | Half or more of the named tours we priced fall in your band | Cheapest tour we found is more than double your band: −4 | From-price ÷ days, 2–9 tours per option |
| Group size | The size to plan for fits your limit (+2 if only a smaller format the brand sells does) | Over 1.5× your limit: −4 | Published averages and caps |
| Pace and walking | Published effort matches yours | Rick Steves if you need help with bags: −8 (you carry your own) | Activity ratings, porterage, walking rules |
| Planned or free | How many meals and sightseeing days come built in | Lots of free time on a fully scheduled trip | Meal counts, optional-excursion models |
| Hotel style | The hotel level the operator publishes | Hostels or 3-star stays if you want grand: up to −4 | “3-star stays”, “4 & 5-star stays”, named hotels |
| Rooming | No supplement, or a matched roommate at the twin price | No matching if you want to share: −2 to −3 | Solo pages and terms |
| Region | A named tour there that we checked | Rick Steves, Rocky Mountaineer, Tauck river outside their territory: −20. O.A.T. in North America, Tauck river in Italy, Greece or Britain: −3 | Tour pages, destination guides, 2027 launches |
| Must-have | The fare already covers it (tips, meals, no extras) | The opposite, e.g., paid optionals when you want none | Inclusions, deposit and cancellation terms |
Commission isn’t in the math
The tour company pays Seabound Journeys a commission when you book through us, and none of the 19 options earns a single point for it. Same answers, same ranking, whoever pays more.
Why some options vanish
The matcher has no on-off filter, so a hard rule becomes −20 points. Contiki gets it for anyone outside 18 to 35 (35 to 45 can still find Reunion trips); Rick Steves and Tauck’s riverboats get it outside Europe, and Rocky Mountaineer outside western Canada, Alaska combos and its US Canyon Spirit route.
A zero for your region means we haven’t priced a tour there yet, not that the company never goes. Ask us, and we’ll check the live catalog.
Five test runs

| Solo, 28, Asia on a budget | 18–35 · under $200 · 12 or fewer · active · free time · simple · matched roommate · easy changes | 1 Contiki · 2 Intrepid · 3 G Adventures |
| Couple in their 70s, slow pace, Italy | 70-plus · $350–$600 · up to 30 · easy · all planned · 4-star · sharing · unpack once | 1 Collette · 2 Trafalgar Premium · 3 O.A.T. |
| Couple, US national parks | 50–69 · $350–$600 · up to 30 · moderate · all planned · 4-star · sharing | 1 Collette · 2 National Geographic Journeys · 3 Trafalgar Small Group |
| Family with teens, safari | teens · $1,000+ · up to 18 · moderate · all planned · luxury lodge · wildlife | 1 Abercrombie & Kent · 2 Tauck (land) · 3 National Geographic Journeys |
These are the matcher’s real outputs for those answers. Change one answer and watch the order move; that’s the fastest way to see which question matters most to you.

Per person, twin share, before flights, from operator pages in October 2026 unless marked (* some or all prices from an agency listing). O.A.T. prices include international air; Rocky Mountaineer is in Canadian dollars, rail-only, for the two-day First Passage to the West in 2027; Belmond figures are per person for one or three nights.
Our arithmetic: from-price divided by days, at the regular price where a sale was showing. Trafalgar tiers highlighted.
The cheapest and dearest options here sit more than ten times apart. In our view hotel level and group size explain most of that gap, and what the fare already includes explains the rest.
Read the bars as a floor, not a quote. Then compare what each fare leaves out.
Not sure what kind of tour you want?
Plenty of people start with a company name. It’s faster to start with the shape of the trip.
Matcher
Which tour format fits?
Four quick questions about how you like to move. This one ranks formats, not companies.
The format usually decides more than the brand. A river cruise and a coach tour from the same company feel nothing alike; two small-group operators in Peru feel close to identical.
Pick the format first, then let the main matcher sort the companies inside it.
Eleven regions, each with its own guide
Picked a region in the matcher? Its guide names real tours, dates and prices for that place.
Got your three? Spend the next hour like this
A ranking is a short list, not a booking. Four steps take you from three names to one quote.
Read why each one ranked
The panel under the matcher lists the answers that earned each company full marks and the ones that cost it. If a deal-breaker shows up there, drop that name.
Open the real tour
Pick a region and each match shows one named tour with days and a from-price. Open the company’s guide for the rest of its range.
Check the facts row
Group size, price per day, age rules and solo policy for all 19 options sit in the facts table above. That’s where most surprises get explained.
Ask a person
Tap “Ask us to price these three” or book a free 30-minute call. A Seabound Journeys advisor checks your dates, the solo rules and the cancellation terms for your year, then quotes the three side by side.
When to ignore the matcher
Lean on it if
- You’re choosing between brands you’ve never heard of
- You know your budget and group size and want a short list fast
- You’re a solo traveler comparing supplement rules
- You want to see why a famous name doesn’t fit you
Look elsewhere if
- Your dates are fixed: availability beats fit, so ask us
- Someone in your party has mobility needs; call before you book anything
- You’re pricing a group of 10 or more, where private departures change the math
- A sale is running: a cheaper tier can jump a band for a few weeks
Our take
The matcher is good at one job: telling you which three companies deserve your evening. It can’t see your dates, a sale that ends Friday or the sister who refuses to share a bathroom.
Use the top three as a short list, not a verdict. Read their guides, then send us the answers you gave; we’ll price the three side by side.
If a result surprises you, check the facts table first. The answer is usually in one row.

What people ask about the matcher
How does the Tour Fit matcher rank tour companies?
Each answer gives all 19 options between minus 20 and plus 3 points, based on facts from the operators’ own pages: group sizes, price per day on named tours, age rules, walking expectations, solo policies and where each one runs trips. The highest totals show first.
Do commissions affect the results?
No. The scores contain nothing about what any operator pays us, and the full rubric is on this page so you can check.
Why does Contiki disappear when I pick 50 to 69?
Contiki only takes travelers aged 18 to 35 at the start of the trip, plus 35 to 45 on its Reunion departures. We give it minus 20 points for any older age band or a family with children so it can’t rank.
Why is Rick Steves’ Europe missing for Japan or Peru?
Rick Steves’ Europe runs tours only in Europe, plus Istanbul, so anywhere else it gets minus 20 points. Rocky Mountaineer and Tauck’s European river cruises get the same treatment outside their territory.
Are the budget bands before or after flights?
Before flights, per person, sharing a room, on from-prices we checked in October 2026. The one exception is O.A.T., whose from-prices include international air, so its land cost is lower than the figure suggests.
What if two companies tie?
The matcher breaks ties by the share of available points each option earned. If the top three look close, send us your answers and we’ll quote them side by side.
Does a zero for my region mean the company doesn’t go there?
No, it means we haven’t priced a tour of theirs there yet. A named tour we checked earns 3 points and a region the company sells without one earns 1 or 2. Minus 3 is for a mismatch we know about, such as O.A.T. in North America (it sells trips overseas) or a Tauck riverboat in Greece. Ask us and we’ll check the current catalog.
What should I do with my top three?
Read each company’s guide, look at the real tour the matcher shows for your region, and check that company’s row in the facts table. Then tap “Ask us to price these three” or book a free call, and a Seabound Journeys advisor will quote them side by side for your dates.
