Where to cruise, month by month

More regions sail year-round than most people expect. The real difference between months is how much choice you get and when each region is at its best. Tap a month to see it plotted on the atlas.

Regions with documented 2026–27 sailings in each month; dark chips are in peak season. A region showing in a month doesn’t mean every port or ship sails then.

Directory

Every place on the atlas

All 225 places, organised by region and route, with the best guide for each and the pages that go with it. Places that belong to more than one region are listed under each, so the region headings hold 242 regional listings. Search results always count places, not listings. Role filters overlap: a place that is both a departure port and a port of call shows under both.

How the atlas works

Where this comes from, and how to read it

One list of places

Every pin comes from the port cards in our 14 regional guides, merged into one list so a port shared by two regions (Barcelona, Southampton, San Juan) is one place, not two. Departure ports, ports of call, private destinations, scenic cruising areas, landmarks and expedition landings are labelled as what they are.

Months, honestly

Seasons are researched by region. A region is in season when we found at least one 2026–27 sailing that month in cruise line deployments, port schedules or dated departures, and its ports show that as a “regional sailing season”. We only say “sailings documented at this port” when a dated port schedule names the port and the month (134 ports and 540 port-months so far, October 2026 to November 2027; every one is listed below); landmarks, beaches and expedition sites use “regional cruise season” instead. “Peak” is the typical best stretch. “Not confirmed” is not “no cruises”. Japan and East Asia keep a typical-season regional profile; where we hold a dated port schedule for one of their ports, that month counts as documented.

Map positions

Pins mark the port area, not a terminal entrance, so use your cruise documents for directions. Coastlines are Natural Earth 1:50m public-domain data, and the Pacific is drawn continuous across the date line so Fiji and Samoa sit next to each other.

Kept current

Seasons and statuses were checked October 11, 2026. Suspended calls (Labadee) stay marked suspended until a new announcement says otherwise; they are never switched back on automatically. Spot something wrong? Report a correction.

Port schedules we checked: 134 ports, 540 port-months, October 2026 to November 2027

117 ports come from Gangwaze’s monthly port-schedule pages (November 2026 to February 2027, the months it had published when we checked). 21 come from an official port-authority or ship-agent calendar (Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska, Port of Vancouver, Port Authority of New South Wales, CentrePort Wellington and others, each named on the place card). A month is listed only when that page showed at least one call; months a source hadn’t published are simply absent, never assumed. Checked October 11, 2026.

Questions

Questions about the atlas

How many places does the Cruise Atlas cover?

225 places across 14 cruise regions. By main role that's 57 departure ports, 127 ports of call, 10 private cruise destinations, 14 landmarks, 7 scenic cruising areas and 10 expedition landing sites. Some places do two jobs. Cruises also start from 8 places we file as ports of call or landings (San Juan, Barbados and London among them), so the atlas counts 65 departure ports in all, and that's the number the map filter uses. Some places belong to more than one region (Civitavecchia is both a Mediterranean port and a transatlantic gateway), so the region totals add up to 242 regional listings, not 225 places. Every count on this page comes from the same place list.

Can I see where to cruise in a particular month?

Yes. Pick a month and each region shows whether we found 2026–27 sailings there that month. Every place inherits its region's season: regional peak, regional sailing season, or not confirmed. A regional season tells you ships are working that coast, not that every port gets a call, so check the itinerary. Where a dated port schedule names the port and the month, the place card says “Sailings documented at this port” and links that schedule. So far that covers 134 ports and 540 port-months, October 2026 to November 2027, from Gangwaze’s monthly port schedules and official port or agent calendars; the full list is under “How the atlas works”. Not confirmed places are dimmed, not removed, because we couldn't confirm a sailing, which is not the same as no cruises. Japan and East Asia still carry a typical-season regional profile, but 8 of their ports now have dated port schedules for individual months, and those months count as documented. It's a planning overview, not live availability.

Where can you cruise in January?

12 of the 14 regions have documented sailings in January: Caribbean, Mediterranean, Bermuda, Mexican Riviera, Panama Canal, Northern Europe, Hawaii & South Pacific, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, South America & Antarctica, Arctic & Norwegian Fjords and Transatlantic & Repositioning. Peak season picks are Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Panama Canal, Asia, Australia & New Zealand and South America & Antarctica. Hawaii sails year-round, and there are winter options in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and on Norway's coastal voyages, with fewer ships than in summer. Not confirmed for January: Alaska and Canada & New England.

Where can you cruise in July?

12 regions have documented sailings in July: Caribbean, Mediterranean, Bermuda, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Northern Europe, Canada & New England, Hawaii & South Pacific, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, Arctic & Norwegian Fjords and Transatlantic & Repositioning. It's peak season for Mediterranean, Bermuda, Alaska, Northern Europe and Arctic & Norwegian Fjords. Australia's year-round home-port sailings and Singapore-based Southeast Asia cruises keep running. Not confirmed for July: Panama Canal and South America & Antarctica.

Which cruise regions sail year-round?

Caribbean, Mediterranean, Mexican Riviera, Northern Europe, Hawaii & South Pacific, Asia, Australia & New Zealand, Arctic & Norwegian Fjords and Transatlantic & Repositioning all have documented sailings in every month, although several run a much smaller schedule outside their peak. Bermuda, Panama Canal, Alaska, Canada & New England and South America & Antarctica have months we couldn't confirm.

Why does searching a city show a different port name?

Some cities aren't where the ships dock. Search Orlando and you get Port Canaveral (near Orlando); search Rome and you get Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy. The result says which name you matched, so you know you're looking at the port that serves that city.

How is the atlas different from the port maps inside each guide?

The atlas puts every region on one world map so you can compare seasons and find a port fast. Each region's own guide has a closer illustrated port map with berth details, the cruise lines that call, the best time to visit and a practical tip for each stop. Every place in the atlas links to those guides, plus any embarkation, hotel, airport, parking and shore excursion guides we've published for it.
